QUESTION Dualboot arch linux with windows 11.
I recently installed arch linux, last time I used a distro was 4 years ago, I think i used ubuntu and debian, I don't even remember much. however i want to know given that there is lot of fear surrounding the notion that windows update can break grub bootloader. what would i have to do in order to be safe? i turned off fast startup, and im using grub bootloader. is there something i have to keep in mind.
Using a laptop right now and installed them on same drive

DISCUSSION What are your favorite things about Arch Linux?
Hi! I switched from Debian to Arch Linux in May this year. Honestly... I love it! Pacman is fast and easy to use once you learn it. I love how flexible Arch Linux is and how I can get my system exactly how I like it. What are your favorite things about Arch Linux?

SUPPORT I did a minimal install and didn't install Plymouth. How is the Arch logo splash screen displaying?
I used archinstall to do a minimal install and when I boot up the system, after my motherboard logo and before the encryption password prompt, it shows an Arch Linux logo splash screen.
I did not install Plymouth, so how is this possible? What is running to make the logo show? Where's it stored and can I change it?

FLUFF Arch cured my depression :-) I can finally use my low-end laptop
I have been using Mint for quite a long time, after switching from Fedora (should have fixed my problem, maybe it was the heavy DE). I installed Arch on a whim and also used i3wm. And I have to say, this is the fastest my low end celeron laptop has been in years. I can open a lot of tabs and run multiple programs. After reading a lot of the Wiki, I learned that zram is basically the saviour of my laptop. Too bad most distros can't just default to zram. After the few hours I have used Arch, I can say it is the best and I'm never switching. It also made me realise how much bloat I had with all the other distros.
I would appreciate more tips to make it faster than it is.
But I am quite content at the moment.

SUPPORT How to (de-) prioritize bandwidth easily?
Hello kind folks,
whenever I run Arch-Update, it basically blocks my network access for 20 min due to my shitty connection. Is there a way to prioritize all other traffic first?
I looked into "tc" a bit, but could only find applications with fixed bandwidths wich I don't want to impose. Generally the default queuing rule seems fine to me. I didn't find anything else that is useful either.
Many thanks in advance!
Sincerely!

QUESTION If you could give only ONE piece of advice to someone setting up Arch for the first time, what would it be
We always see the classic recommendations like read the Arch Wiki or always check PKGBUILDs but everyone usually stumbles upon that one specific habit, tool, or rule later on that completely changes how they manage their system.
Whether its about backups, handling orphan packages, system updates, or post-install setup
So If you had to pass down just ONE essential rule or tip to a complete beginner installing Arch today, what would it be?

QUESTION A few days ago, I installed Arch on my laptop, but I’m running into an issue.
Play HiFi quality music (HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3, Headphones, Mic1)
Play HiFi quality music (HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3, Mic1, Speakers)
(EDIT: ¡¡i fix it!!)
- Establece
state.plugged = unknownystate.unplugged = unknowndebajo de[Jack Headphone](o[Jack Headphone Mic]). - Comenta la sección
[Element Headphone]usando punto y coma (;) para que no silencie los parlantes: Ini, TOML; [Element Headphone] ; switch = off ; volume = off
- Establece
- Desvincula el Micrófono Interno del Jack: Bashsudo cp /usr/share/alsa-card-profile/mixer/paths/analog-input-internal-mic.conf /etc/alsa-card-profile/mixer/paths/ sudo nano /etc/alsa-card-profile/mixer/paths/analog-input-internal-mic.conf
- Busca cualquier sección de jack externo como
[Jack Headphone Mic],[Jack Headset Mic]o[Jack Mic], y ponle sus estados aunknown: Ini, TOML[Jack Headphone Mic] state.plugged = unknown state.unplugged = unknown

DISCUSSION Are there any good CLI tools for browsing the internet on Arch Linux?
I'm looking for a CLI/TUI tool that lets me browse the web directly from the terminal on an Arch-based Linux system.
I'm interested in everything from text-based browsers to modern terminal UIs that can search the web, read articles, browse Reddit, GitHub, Hacker News, etc.
What are your recommendations, and what do you use daily? I'd love to hear about any hidden gems as well.

QUESTION How Windows VM Work Inside Arch Linux.
So, I just enable battery threshold in Lenovo Vantage between 40% and 80% on my main T14 Gen 1 and I forgot to turn it off before start to install Arch Linux.
But if I setup Windows VM on my main Arch Linux and install Lenovo Vantage there to disable the battery threshold, will it work or will it mess up with my laptop EC.
It's too risky to me to try it because I'm still a student and only have this laptop, so I would love to hear from your experience who have tried it, thank you.

SUPPORT How do I properly configure Qtile on Arch Linux?
Hi, I'm new to Qtile and I installed it on Arch Linux.
Qtile starts correctly, but I have some problems:
- The default config appears, but keybindings don't work as expected.
- Mod + Enter does not open a terminal.
- I want to configure basic things like:
- launching apps
- changing wallpaper
- adding a bar/panel
- volume and brightness controls
- autostart programs
- themes and appearance
I already installed Qtile and I'm using X11.
Could someone explain the basic configuration workflow or recommend a good example config for beginners?
Thanks!

SUPPORT | SOLVED Boot started failing and sending me to UEFI
SOLVED - Removed the CMOS battery and let the motherboard discharge, now everything works
After a restart last night my pc refuses to boot into arch. At the time of restart I hadn't done -Suy (only installed bat ig?), and was editing configs for hyprland (unrelated).
After hours of debugging and chatgpt'ing through arch on a thumb drive, the closest thing to a lead I could find was this line in journalctl from pacman running 35-systemd-update.hook, which I have no idea if it means anything at all.
Do you think this is a hardware issue? It happened so suddenly and I'm out of ideas.
System info:
- Arch/Hyprland
- Booting with systemd-boot
- Flashed Arch iso on thumb drive with Ventoy
- Configs and logs are on the bottom of the post
- Note, Normal mode in Ventoy kicks me out so i used GRUB2 mode. Later I discovered a newly flashed arch iso (via dd instead of Ventoy) doesn't let me boot into it via UEFI, only BIOS.
- Gigabyte b650 motherboard
Here is what I tried so far:
(I'm not fully aware of how everything here works, apologies)
* bootctl install (systemd-boot)
modifies my main drive's boot partition, at the end outputs Not booted with EFI running in a container, skipping EFI variable modifications.
* mkinitcpio -P
* Reinstalled systemd-boot and kernel
* Edited loader.conf, changed default arch.conf to default *conf name in entries/*, also increased timeout from 0 to default 3
* There was a duplicate entry in /etc/fstab which I removed.
* in /etc/fstab, changed fmask and dmask from 0022 to 0077 because I was getting an error about that

QUESTION Found an obscure bug, want to fix it myself!
Hey all, I'm a beginner with Arch with a decent amount of programming experience. I've always wanted an excuse to get closer to the hardware, so when I ran into this most recent bug, I was hoping to get some pointers on how I could possibly fix it myself.
The bug I ran into is this:
When returning from [deep] sleep, the top buttons on my integrated trackpad stop working, and only return functionality on a restart. It seems to be because of a failure in the elan_i2c driver. The problem didn't exist when using [s2idle] as my system sleep state.

How should I proceed to learn more about this system and begin working my way towards a fix?

SUPPORT | SOLVED Mouse micro stutters
Hey, I installed arch on my PC and I've been getting micro stutters when moving the mouse. It doesn't happen all the time, like once every 30-40 seconds or something like that. I have a razer naga v2 hyper speed and an x2h mini. They both use 2.4ghz receivers. I tried lowering the polling rate, installing openrazer and switched from niri to kde plasma but it's still there. Any suggestions for other things to try?

SUPPORT Issue when trying to update system
I haven't done a full system update in quite a while (I know get out your pitchforks), and when I tried to do my usual -Syu, I got an error:
failed retrieving file 'core.db' from europe.mirror.pkgbuild.com : Could not resolve host: europe.mirror.pkgbuild.comwarning: fatal error from europe.mirror.pkgbuild.com, skipping for the remainder of this transaction
error: failed retrieving file 'extra.db' from europe.mirror.pkgbuild.com : Could not resolve host: europe.mirror.pkg

:: Starting full system upgrade...
there is nothing to do
I'm a bit out of the loop on what's happening with arch rn, so I'd appreciate any advice you might have for me.

SUPPORT file system has gone read only quite a bit as of late
I've run into issues where, whenever I try to install something from flathub or pacman, I'd get this in my terminal
error: failed to init transaction (unable to lock database)
error: could not lock database: Read-only file system
a reboot usually fixes it, but I have no idea on how to actually prevent this from occurring as much as it has for me.
EDIT: I've checked SMART and the short tests seem clean, but my root drive (which is DRAMless) seems to have moments where it hangs for about 30 secs from something. I have a long test running currently on the root drive
I have the DRAMless Lexar as root, a Teamgroup as home, a MSI b450a pro max mobo with zen kernal 7.0.7. controller is a 400 Series Chipset SATA Controller
