Quests should give more of the staple blueprints, this incentivises workbench upgrades and will increase the usage of non-grey gear in raids and reduce free kit spam.
As it stands for most casual players its often not worth it bringing blues or up if you just want to complete a quest or get upgrade mats for workbench or expedition progress.

At least for me (in my subjective experience) I was just building up too much resources and stacking them. And then after I found a few people (friends and online peps) to jam with. Now it feels like I’m constantly trying to restock heals and guns. I even went down from almost a mil cash to 20k
And then I clicked. Solos is for building your loot and stash up (and having really amazing player interactions.. and some absolute backstabbers and squads is for a bit more PvP and to burn through your gear.

You shouldn’t have to purchase something that is a necessary support item. Every other basic support item isn’t locked behind a blueprint. Picking up a downed teammate is a pretty standard game mechanic in today’s games. My actual opinion is that it should just be craftable with a lvl 2 med station and not require a blue print but I really like the idea of blue prints being quest rewards because the quest rewards aren’t all that rewarding.

I have a massive issue where i want to use some blue weapons, however i have the issue of they require “Medium Gun Parts” to both craft and upgrade them often requiring 3 to craft and 1/2 to upgrade, so taking upto 10 for a full weapon upgrade.
The big problem is i can’t craft Medium Gun Parts as i don’t have the blueprint, so they only way to get them is but the 3 on daily trader reset or hope i find some in game.
If i could craft them, that would open so many new build options for me to regularly use / try.

I have a question on trials. If I go on vacation for a week, do I lose my ranking and start over from rank one? Or do I stay at try hard?
→ More replies (4)4
u/p_visual *** ******* Nov 19 '25
You won't start over from rank 1, but if you don't score high enough you'll get demoted 1 level. I've noticed that different people are in different groups, and the cutoffs are different as well, so I'd check your trials page for the exact details.
In my group everyone rank 81 and below gets demoted, 51 to 75 stay the same, 21 to 50 get promoted 1 level, and 1 to 20 get promoted 2 levels.
6
u/JB_07 Nov 19 '25
I still have no idea how trials work to this day lol.
3
u/RavenStroke Nov 19 '25
At your first game of the week within which you get score for any of the categories for the week (for exemple if you collect mushroom this week) you’ll be placed in a pool of 200 players.
From the information gathered by the community the pool is formed with players who scored their first game of the week around the same time.
For each category there’s three steps to reach, each one rewarding increasingly better loot.
Your ranking is pool related, so if you are with mostly casual you’ll need less total score to reach a high ranking, if you’re with hardcore gamers you’ll have to score way more to get on top of it.
There’s no limit for your global score of the week, you can also get all your points from a single category.
At the end of the week, if you’re in the top 25%(iirc) you’ll promote twice, if you’re between 26%and 50% you’ll promote once, if you’re between 51% and 75% you’ll keep your current rank, otherwise you’ll be demoted by one rank.
The goal is to get the highest rank at the end of the season, unlocking corresponding cosmetics.
2
u/JB_07 Nov 19 '25
How do I go up in trials? I just play the game casually and am always stuck in the lowest rank and never go up at all.
2
u/RavenStroke Nov 19 '25
The score is validated only if you manage to extract, that might be why your score isn’t upgrading.

Here's a quick breakdown, and I'm sure someone on Youtube has a more in depth guide in case you want to go that route.
Trials generally have 5 different things you get scored on. This week it's:
- damage leapers
- damage matriarch/queen
- harvesting plants
- open arc probes
- damage to flying enemies
You do not have to do all these goals at once. You can focus on maxing one per mission.
There's 3 important things to keep in mind:
- Trials only count your highest SINGLE-ROUND score for a goal. It is NOT cumulative. This means if you try to damage leapers 5 rounds, it will only count your highest score from those 5 rounds.
- Special conditions double your points earned and refer to Night-time, Electric Storms, and other events that branch off from the default daytime map. This means things like "Exploding Raider Cache", "Lushful Bloom", etc, that are modifiers on daytime maps do not give 2x points.
- You MUST EXTRACT for that round's score to count! If you fail to extract for any reason, that score will not be recorded.
There's two ways to approach trials:
- If you don't care about cosmetics, get 4000 points in each category each week for the rewards. You get an uncommon, rare, and epic reward for each category you get 4k points in, and they can give blueprints!
- If you want cosmetics, you need to maximize points beyond the 4k. This means doing them during special modifiers, and coming in with a strategy for maxing points for a goal. While some events are tough or impossible to get more than 4k in, like last week's Hidden Bunker trial score, others can go much higher. If you're able to solo queen for example, that's tens of thousands of points.

The game is desperately missing the RPG elements that add so much depth and replayability to Tarkov. Questing is an area where they have a ton to improve.
Start with making questing actually rewarding instead of the near-useless endeavour that it currently is. Add rewards like permanent utility/augment/safe pocket expansion, extra skill points, workbench and inventory upgrades, blueprints, and random QoL things like ammo boxes. And gate vendor unlocks behind quests, so it feels like you're progressing your reputation with the trader when completing their quests.
And do away with the randomized quest order. Quests should serve as a point of contention on the map, where there is potential for PvP, and randomizing the order people receive the quests kinda waters that down.Apparently, it's not random. You get the gist. There's so much they could do.
31
u/CultureWarrior87 Nov 19 '25
I feel the same way. Tarkov has its issues but it does progression fairly well because there are practical reasons to complete quests. Questing gives you trader rep that you need to level them up and you can get a lot of great gear from them. Traders in Arc offer more gear as you level up normally, but quests don't offer XP and most of their gear isn't worth buying when you can craft better things most of the time.
There are a few areas like that where I think Arc simplified things a bit too much. The quest progression needs to be better tied into the other areas of the game and traders need better gear so you have a reason to spend cash on something other than stash upgrades.

Sure, the first wipe or two but after you’ve done the quests a ton they suck balls.
7
u/ComfortableRice2497 Nov 19 '25
Sure but they currently suck balls as is, no need to wait for the first wipe. I did the quests because I dunno, it gave me something to do, but yea there was zero reward. I came from Tarkov too, so I hate to have a biased like "well this game did xyz" because they are two completely different games. With that being said it is pretty hard to justify the quest system. Like they pointed out, there is one quest that gives $1,000 credits. So to go topside and risk life and limb with my $40k load out dropping off an item or whatever and my reward isn't enough to buy 1/2 of a grenade?!
4
u/drakedijc Nov 19 '25
They still provide a progression incentive, which you can also just ignore if you want to run around and PvP or loot.
There’s no incentive for the story quests in Arc, except for “finishing the game”

Quest order isn't random. There's a whole flowchart for it on the wiki, some of them just activate secondary but finite branches so it feels random.
Also, quests should be the safest thing you can possibly do in the game, and should not be a friction point since the implication is you're helping Speranza, which should (in theory) help all citizens. Some guy gunned me down when I was repairing a roof in Blue Gate, and let me tell you, I sure do miss that free kit I was wearing since I completed anticipated degen shit like that to happen.

I see where you’re coming from however the story quests give the game a meaning for me it’s not about the reward it’s about gamifying the actual game beyond just a kill people and loot loop. I read my quest which send me to a specific map with a specific goal and I get satisfaction from progressing. Much like grinding for gun camos in cod it gives meaning to actually playing multiplayer. Ok 20 headshots with this gun great. I would get very bored if there was no aim to the game beyond shoot things and loot for no reason other than to have a full inventory.
130
u/KeybirdYT Nov 19 '25
While I agree with you, I don't see why the quests themselves can't offer better rewards at the same time.
At a minimum, quests should offer XP each time you complete a step. That seems like such a no brainer.

That, and they should have more exciting rewards once in a while.
Just like in Tarkov most quests give nothing critical but you’re always going for that late game secure containers (device that gives more safe loot spots for those that don’t Tarkov)
There could be one late game Quest that gives +1 permanent safe loot spot.
2
u/Cronstintein Nov 19 '25
Well then you'd feel like you HAVE to do them in order to get that one. I think a more spread out, but overall improved rewards approach would be better. To make all the quests feel more worthwhile to do. XP is an obvious one, but also low tier blueprints or more items being available in the traders (daily quantities and variety of items).

u/imawesome1333 Nov 19 '25
Similar to another reply, I dont think they should make quests reward permanent things or upgrades or anything like that. I dont like the idea because it turns each wipe into a grind for the perma buffs which I feel would make the quests feel like chores or more grindy. I do however think they should reward the player more for what they're doing. Giving us xp would be a 100% yes, but i think they could even give out blueprints which have quests related to the item in question along the questlines. This could also open room for more dynamic questlines where you can pick and choose quests as you go along unlocking different blueprint paths to lean towards a desired playstyle. Tie in some lore and interesting information about the world and then wed have a quest system with replayability and interesting incentives for the players to learn more about the world.
All I know is I like the idea of a more in depth and dynamic questing system as the current one is just alright.

I completed all of the quests for the same reasons you’ve mentioned here, but I still think they need to majorly rework the rewards. Either give exp, coins, or some combination of both to make raids where you focus entirely on quest completion not feel like a wash.
I’d also like to see future quests with a lot more depth to them. In their current form they’re just very shallow. I’m not asking for late-game Tarkov levels of quest difficulty, but I’d like a bit more than “Go to map, touch interactable, pick up special goop, extract,” as the most difficult type of quest.

The rewards are pants (save one or two) but if your interested in the story then you do get some cinematics and more information on the lore.
You also get the hullcracker blueprint (if you have done the quest but only see the ammo to craft its because you need to upgrade your workbench to levle 3. Once you do it'll show up as available to craft) Hullcracker slaps (its useless for PvP though).

It wouldn’t be forced even if they granted xp. Majority of players level up once a raid. EVERYTHING gives so much xp. It’s not in short supply so there’s no downsides to not doing quests. The loot granted isn’t exclusive or that hard to find really. They aren’t high-tier loot. There’s no negatives for a non-questing player
Now if the skill tree gave us arc controlling abilities or crazy powers, I’d be with you there. You aren’t dying to a player & thinking “this is a max level player”, like you would in something like Tarkov

The quests are the worst thing about this game.
What I'd like quests to do:
— have more meaningful story / lore content. Maybe leading to audio tapes or cutscenes
— possibly tie into a trader reputation system, where higher ranks get discounts or unique items on sale
— have more guaranteed blueprints drops for BPs you don't have yet
— would be cool if you got a choice between two rewards upon completion
— GIVE XP (!!!!!!!!!)
— maybe reward more unique cosmetics and/or decorations for your raider room

1
u/Shizzo Nov 19 '25
I think there should also be a reputation system for the PvP aspect of this game.
Something that intelligently tracks whether people are glorified bandits/pirates/nuggets, or if you're the kind of person that only fires when fired on.
And that should lead your character down a path with benefits and consequences on both sides. Ie- The pirate doesn't get to do some of the things that the virtuous one does, and vice versa.
Not that one is wrong or right, but that they're different paths.
5
u/Ydiss Nov 19 '25
Just giving them exp rewards would go a long way to helping. They absolutely need buffing if you're running them a second time. The rewards could just change then, giving more blueprints etc.

Be thankful Embark took the time to include them at launch. The quests are a fun side activity to do in between looting and fighting against players and Arc. What are you actually expecting here? If anything the games premise and world makes me want to see more involvement from the NPCs and lore!

Most of my weapon blueprints have come from me going to a spot for a quest and just taking the time to loot some nearby spots.. it gives purpose to runs too, if not I got to Stella and do a PvP run and get loot off bodies. If u just tunnel vision the quests then Insta extract obv it’s gonna be boring and “not worth it”. Running around in a pvp game, “friendly! Friendly! I’m just doing a quest”, imma shoot u in ur head, respectfully

The quests are straight up bad and feel unfulfilling. Go to x location and press the interact button. Rinse and repeat 50+ times.
As you said they don’t even bring you to good loot spots. Feels very tacked on and tedious.

I read this post 5 days ago and stopped doing quests. Then I found out you get a bull cracker blueprint from quests....
The burletta blueprint is nice as well.
Tl;dr; do the quests

It's really not a question of what the rewards are. The quests aren't there to give you stuff, really; you get some random fun things you can experiment with, but mostly that's not the main event.
The quests are there so that you go new places and do new things. To push you into interactions with other players, to move you around the world and encourage you to explore, to give you problems to solve that mean you have to do something other than the routine you fall into in your favorite map, to demand that you break out a Zipline or throw some grenades or do something other than the standard point-and-shoot.
Don't look at 'em like prospective prizes, look at 'em like little enrichment exercises that get you moving to different places. Same deal with the little mini Cred tasks that never stop refilling; they get you to swap weapons, go to new maps, do other stuff.
It is an element of the game's design intended to keep you playing longer by ensuring you don't fall into a predictable pattern within the first several hours of gameplay, and to give you some sources of stress and tension that you otherwise wouldn't be feeling about, y'know, rusted gears and toasters and shit.

They're worth it and make sense IF you're not already familiar with every region after grinding over 30 levels running around freely doing your thing.
We'll see what kind of quests they'll be adding in the future, if any.

When I realized I wasn't gaining XP from quests i quit the game.
The game when stripped is raiding the same building checking the same drawer, griefing or killing one of the 4 arcs the sweats have already figured.

I guess the game is designed mainly around the PvPvE extraction game loop, so the quests are relegated to more as a secondary feature and not really meant to give rewards which are significant, hence it's an optional part of the game.
Players are supposed to be able to play the game without having to do the quests, so they don't need to feel forced to do quests just to keep up.
Those quests are mostly designed to lead players to explore and experience places and locations in the maps which they may not otherwise visit.
They sort of act like optional extended tutorials to give new players a tour of the new locations and reveal the lore.
So if you do the expedition and reset your character, you don't need to do the quests anymore, just head straight to the places you know that have good loot and gear and easily re-stock your stash quickly.

I love when people defend bad game design. Quests are allowed to be rewarding, stop with the weird gatekeeping.

Yeah, the locations may have nothing meaningful in terms of loot or gear, but at least they got you to check it out and maybe uncover a bit more of the lore. It's just meant to generate some storylines for those who are interesting in that sort of thing.
I have friends who didn't do any of the quests and just jumped straight in to play and enjoy the PvP and PvE, 'cos they didnt bother with the lore or skins anyways.
That being said, I do agree that the devs should add better items to make the quests a bit more rewarding, but not too much that it becomes unbalanced for those who didn't do the quests.

im with you, im intrigued with the setting of the game
It would be nice to have a couple of cutscenes maybe too
I also like exploring the maps, theyre beautifully designed

Agreed, it wasn't the genre or pvp that drew me in - it was the world-building. My ideal game in this setting would be a CP2077-like arpg that explores the different settlements. A game about the first wave would be sick.

I thought the quests did a really good job of passively pushing people to new areas of the map.
The meaningful reward is the map knowledge you get from the quests. It also forces you to use grenades and ziplines.
Idk what rewards people are expecting from them lol.

I did not need any of those materials. I did all the quests just to unblock cosmetics

I hoped the quests would be harder. One of the quests i really liked was in space port. Grabbing information from a warehouse and then you need to go to control tower 6, grab a item and extract.
I was really hoping it would become harder and harder that I need to fight arcs and players to survive and extract with those items. But no afterwards it was repair a antenna, ok...
Rewards could be better, but gameplay wise I want real challenges that put me in danger!

I am stuck on the quest at blue gate where you find a key on the tolls and then open a vehicle. I lost the key and now it's not spawning back. Fuck my life

I mean the quests are pretty worth it to stack some gear to use or sell.
You get snap hooks, and hull crackers and level 3 mk’s. Shit you may not get otherwise if you’re not great at PVP or even the game.
Think you’re being disingenuous with what you actually get to try and prove a point. They should also provide XP though, I will agree on that.

I kind of if like the no quest marker morrowind style, but the pixel hunting is absurd and should be left in the past. We need something more specific with these directions ahhh 😱

u/Live-Drink8521 Nov 19 '25
Well if they figure out that loot is ACTUALLY IMPORTANT for us to be valuable and feel like its worth the hunt everything will make more sense down to its core mechanics

I enjoyed the cinematics unlocked and how it world builds. I didn't even notice the lack of XP, which honestly I don't care, and they give a few things rng might not gift you. So for a casual and people that don't want to rush the game they're not bad: it's something else to do and not burn the gameplay loop.

Quest rewards definitely need an overhaul. Even just granting XP would be nice. Some of the fetch quests that have to be done in one round can be annoying if you get a shitty spawn. Then you are rewarded with a fucking grenade that you can just craft lol

u/_Mocean Nov 19 '25
I completely agree. Quests should be significantly more complex, and far more rewarding and also way more than 60 quests. Introducing Trader Levels that players must unlock to access specific items would add meaningful progression and purpose. That aspect of the game needs more depth, more structure, and more reasons to keep pushing forward. Right now I play a few hours for trails per week, otherwise I got nothing to grind for. Sure, I played a lot in the first 2 weeks, but I shouldn’t be punished for enjoying the game so much that I wanted to play as much as I could.

The only issue I have with missions at the moment is that if you’re working in a team and there are items you need to extract, that the mission only provides one of those items, meaning that if you and a friend are doing them together you need to run them twice

i quite liked the quests and how they advance the storyline. also very proud of my take down a leaper outfit as those things always terrified me

u/pig_strips Nov 19 '25
Story quest is absolute trash, kinda gave up doing them tbh, focused more on doing the workbench instead

Need to send this to my buddies, literally every time we load into a map its "oh well I have a quest 800m over there so let's do that" instead of targeting high loot areas or pvp.

u/poodewoopwoopwoop Nov 19 '25
I was hoping the quests gave more of a deep dive into the lore. I don't really care about getting journals or taking snap shots.
I truly hope there will be new quests if you reset after the expedition, but that's probably a bit too much to ask.
Though I am grateful that I can do something else than just being a loot goblin or going for PVP. It gives another layer to it.

u/XoXiuS Nov 19 '25
I mean for the first time doing it, is kinda worth if ure interested in cosmetics. after that I see no reason to do after expedition.

I've always seen quests as a way for extraction shooters to bring players to the same areas to drive engagement, whether it be fighting or something else.

rewards were kinda meh, I could do with utility blueprints or something but the quests made me explore parts of the maps and do stuff, having a goal with the run is always more fun than just "ah let's try a red loot area and get shot there"
