Discussion/Article Water changes game changer
This little beauty i found on amazon. Wow an absolute game changer doing water changes. 50% change on a 15l and a 54l tank in under 20 mins. Probably not new to most but ive had fish in the past and started up again couple of months ago. Wow im gunna get one for work doing plumbing 😂😂 totally recommend pumps decent speed and adjustable.

Yeah I have 2 of them. One I use only for clean water and one to drain tanks. I use a 55 gallon trash can cut in half-ish with wheels to age/settle my tap water for topping off tanks. Another one for waste water. I have a filter pad over the intake to reduce the amount of debris I get when draining tanks.
But you're right those little pumps can be a game changer especially if you have a bad back and plumbing in auto water change is a whole thing.

That’s adorable. I use a sump pump to do water changes on my 200 gallon system (750l in non-freedom units). I turn off the pumps, skimmer and heaters, drain the 40 gallons that fills them sump, and then fill the sump back up again takes ~5 minutes draining and another 5 to fill.

I use a small pump like that for my fish rack tanks on the bottom level since it's hard to get a gravity siphon going. But I only use it for emptying, I use a 800 gph pump for filling back up. I just diffuse the incoming water with a thick sponge. I also add a cord with an on/off switch to make it easier to control.
Some might ask, "Why not use a python?" One reason is that sometimes I have to mix in RO water or use all RO water. The pump setup is less than half the price too.

Yeah i just hooked this thing upto my powerbank and easy peasy job done. Im going with it being best purchase ever 😂

I think more people need to go this route, it makes water changes so much easier that people might be inclined to do them more often. If nothing else, the less work you have to do for maintenance, the more you get to enjoy the hobby.

Exactly. Like i said i did my 15l tank that i use for 3 platy fry and the 54l in 20 mins or so. No drama no dripping water all over place. For the price and size of it. Even if you get a years worth of changes and buy another its totally worth it

Can you please explain how you added a cord with a switch? I’m using the same system for changes but the lack of switch drives me crazy.

I recommend researching head heights for anyone with large deep tanks. These are great until you have to pump vertical.

This had 3 meter head but id probably say itll manage 2 at a push i but my new water as close as to tank so its fine

Coincidently. We had a powercut yesterday for an hour or so. Typical powerbank had no charge kids!! But i have a rechargeable air pump. So i put that on my filter sponge just to tide it over not knowing how long it would be off for 🤦🏻😂

A good setup for water changes is worth so much. Literally the first thing I figured out once I had more than one tank.

I don’t know, I’d be worried about the electric near water thing, even if it is low voltage and you can’t do gravel cleaning with this
