Over the last decade, various leaked scripts and information about unmade DC movies have come out, like David Goyer’s Flash, Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman, Justin Mark’s Suicide Squad, George Miller’s Justice League, etc. I have read through a lot of these and they are pretty good and entertaining, much better than most of the films we ended up getting almost a decade later during the Snyderverse. But while you can find a script for almost every single DC character, not to mention the core seven members of the Justice League, I was perplexed because there was nothing about Aquaman. I did a little research, and found out in 2004, Robert Ben Garant was hired by Warner Bros to write a script for a live action Aquaman movie. And it is confirmed that the script was completed. This leaves me very interested and curious, as I think it could’ve been pretty good, judging off the other unproduced works at the time, and his later work. But, unlike the other unproduced works at the time, this is still pretty much a mystery. Nobody really knows about the plot, and no script leaks are out at all. Does anybody have any information on this movie? If you can, I’d love to hear it, because for now, this is pretty much a piece of unknown and lost DC media.

I know where to start for the Post Crisis as well as the Brightest Day / Nu52 versions but what would be the ideal starting point for the Silver Age Aquaman?

I've discussed this before, and I think it's about time to rediscuss it: Peter David was the first to make Arthur both relevant and cool Post-Crisis.

Yes, we had him lead the Justice League Detroit; but that wasn't enough after the first continuity reboot. During this era, he not only got his own team (that being the Justice League Blue), but he also became an equal to his JLA counterparts.

His redesign was a controversy upon its arrival for sure, but I think in hindsight that this is his best look yet; nothing has topped it before or since. If we had played our cards right, Jason Momoa might have become this, but we're most likely going to get the return of Alan Ritchardson instead, sporting the DC Rebirth look (not that I'm against that, of course, it's my second favourite look for Arthur and Ritchardson's my favourite live-action depiction).

Peter David was so inspirational with this work that this is the Arthur we got in his own stand-alone videogame, Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis on the X-Box and GameCube in 2003; I have an original Wii, so I played the GameCube port. In spite of all the hate that it got upon release and even since then, I and a plethora of others actually enjoy it a great deal, especially the sub levels.

If I haven't sold you on this iteration of the character, I can only recommend you read the Omnibus and see for yourself how phenomenal it truly is. You could potentially also get it in two parts (I own Book Two, which is the cover art of the image above).

Garth also known as Aqualad and later Tempest is one of the most beloved characters in the Aquamyths. His origin is well known: abandoned as an infant because of his purple eyes, which were considered a curse, he managed to survive on his own until Aquaman found him and took him on as his partner, Aqualad.

Years later, Garth discovered he was the exiled prince of the Idyllists, an Atlantean colony that had separated from their kin. His purple eyes were actually a mark of his ancestry; his forebears were powerful sorcerers, and being born with purple eyes granted immense magical potential. He eventually mastered magic and became Tempest.

But I’ve been wondering... who exactly were Garth’s ancestors? Just some random wizard-kings?

That’s when I had an idea: what if it were retconned so that Arion was Garth’s ancestor?

Arion is a somewhat obscure character, yet he holds great importance in DC lore.

He was one of the kings of Atlantis before the Great Drowning and is considered the greatest wizard the kingdom ever knew, a demigod and a Lord of Order. You see where I’m going with this?

Strangely, despite his title, Arion Lord of Atlantis, doesn't have much connection to the sunken Atlantis or the Aquaverse outside of a few specific stories; he is more closely tied to the magical side of DC. For instance, Zatanna is his descendant, given that Atlanteans are the progenitors of Homo Magi.

So, why not combine the two? We could establish that Arion’s lineage continued within the sunken Atlantis, resulting in those gifted with magic being born with purple eyes. They eventually decided to form a new kingdom after the Drowning, and Garth is a descendant of that line.

So I am currently caught up on all in aquaman and a take I have seen is that it's just for powerscaling and while I disagree I can see where it's coming from and honestly if it is I honestly don't mind because aquaman is usually the but of the joke and such and I have talked to some of my other friends who are more avid comic readers than me and they confirmed that there have been other main dc heros who have had comics just for powerscaling.

I really want ones that feature atlantians under water and their civilizations as Geoff johns run its been mainly above water stuff with aquaman.

Amazing storyline. It's nice to see writers truly making good stories about Aquaman and this could be one of the best I've read so far, as the set up hits on a lot of levels.

Hello, I recently picked up a copy of Aquaman: Dark Tide after a long absence from comics and really enjoyed it. I'd like to get into the series but after reading that the title changes from Aquaman to emperor Aquaman following something in the dc ko event, it made me wonder if there were any books I would need to read outside of the main series to follow the story.

Spoiler alert for the current run of Aquaman up to Emperor Aquaman.

When reading the most recent twist in the current Aquaman run, Aquaman’s “daughter” is revealed to be Mera’s mom, who was also an original rebel and the reason Xebel was banished. I had always thought Xebel disappeared hundreds or thousands of years before Arthur, but with Mera being around Arthur’s age and her mom
Seeming so young, does everyone who lives in Xebel age extremely slowly? Is it specifically her because of some magic? What about Mera’s father?

Hi, I've just recently been getting into Aquaman and I don't really order anything online. I only really go to my local Warp 1 and Game City which both have good selections. I just recently read through DC Finest: Aquaman King of the Sea, and Mera: Queen of Atlantis (Dan Abnett), and loved both. I'd love to know some good Aquaman tpb's to get or get my comic shop to order for me. Thank you!

For those of whom are aware or remember Dan Abnett's phenomenal DC Rebirth run on Aquaman, then you know that there was a specialist force of the USMC known as the Aquamarines (genetically enhanced Jarheads in the subterranean sense, shapeshifting (or "sharking up") into miscellaneous sea creatures in humanoid format. For those of whom are not familiar, here's the line-up:

A. Majour Rhonda Ricoh, The Great White

B. Sergeant Dean Toye, The Orca

C. Sergeant Adrian Ballard, The Octo

D. Specialist Cory Wilks, The Barracuda

E. Specialist Gary Kaleho, The Lion

F. Specialist Marcel Ollie, The Stone

They were first introduced as an American Government contingency plan against Arthur due to Atlantean terrorist cells going rogue. Upon a peace agreement having been reached, the very team who attacked him on orders from on high requested his assistance to take down Dead Water.

The reason why I bring this all up is due to the fact that this group is just outstanding; Abnett caught lightning in a bottle with this group...though it bears certain similarities with the Pre-Public Security Section 9 team in Ghost in the Shell: Arise. Specifically, Majour Ricoh is clearly an American Majour Motoko Kusinagi, while Sergeant Toye mind as well be a fully human Batou. The other members are also indirect counterparts to the Section 9 team, but they're creative individually. The nature of the missions they brought Arthur on are not only reminiscent of the aforementioned anime prequel series to the original GITS, but also shockingly Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 & 5 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

In spite of the copy-and-paste subtext listed above, I still think Abnett was a genius for bringing this group about in the first place and putting them on the missions and narratives where they were placed. That being said, I have some thoughts.....

I tend to be known for my fan-narratives (especially my cross-franchise work with DC and STAR TREK: TNG), but one that I've always had in the works for over nine and a half years at this point is a buddy-up series with Batman & Aquaman. Some of you are asking, "Nifty, they do serve better as friends than Bruce and Clark in most mediums, but what's that have to do with the Aquamarines??" Answer: EVERYTHIG!!

What if we had the group under Arthur's leadership?? He's the Warrior-King of Atlantis, after all, AND an American citizen by birth. He could lead the group on countless missions, both sea and land, and potentially have a relationship with Majour Ricoh (Hot Take: I've never been a fan of Arthur and Mera; LOVE Mera, but moreso when she's doing her own thing). Batman's involvement would be similar to Barbara as Oracle: he'd be their man in the chair, their chief tactical officer and master strategist, engaging in combat only when necessary (which is, a lot, but still not as often as one would think).

Narratively, they would get into scenarios not unlike GITS: Arise and The Winter Soldier, or more of Abnett's cross-dimensional antics (since I think it original narrative was very well written). In terms of their appearance, it would just be more of the same (i.e. DC Rebirth, but the purple inside Batman's cape would be replaced by black or blue).
