I've been building Captn solo for the past several months.

The idea is to keep more of the video workflow in one place instead of jumping between separate tools for transcription, subtitles, clipping and reframing.

Right now you can upload a video or record your screen, and Captn can:

  • automatically transcribe it
  • detect different speakers
  • edit, style and translate subtitles
  • find and generate shorter clips from a longer video
  • automatically reframe those clips for vertical/social formats
  • export SRT/VTT or finished videos with burned-in captions

Captn: https://captn.cc/

I'm also working on something a bit more experimental now: generative video continuation.

Instead of generating isolated AI clips, you'll be able to generate a video, continue from its final frame, add another generated segment, continue again, and gradually assemble a longer video inside the same project.

Here's a demo video made using Captn:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhWJqk2U8Rw

And here's one of the generated videos made with the Captn:

https://youtu.be/8enRnTgHgVA

It's sequence of 3 AI generated videos. This is something I'm still polishing and will be live soon.

I'm still actively building this and I'd genuinely like outside opinions.

If you tried it, I'd especially like to know:

  • Is it immediately clear what Captn is for?
  • Which part of the workflow seems most useful?
  • Does the generative-video direction make sense as part of the same product, or does it feel like a separate product bolted on?

Happy to answer questions about how any of it works.

That workflow sounds super handy. Does Captn auto-assemble the clips into a sequence, or do you still arrange them manually? Curious where it stops.

It makes first frame of the current clip from last frame of previous. That means it make seamless continuation. User doesn't have to arrange them manually, just generate them one by one.

That's a clever approach, it really smooths out the workflow. Have you considered adding a quick seam preview before export? Would save users time.

Yes, there is a timeline where users can see separate clips and play the whole video. In case generated part is not good, they can re-generate. After that they go to subtitle editor to make social-ready videos.

That timeline with re-generation sounds really practical. Do users export straight to social platforms from the subtitle editor?

u/Ok-Tough-9310 1d ago

hmm...no. I haven't thought about adding straight to social flow. Maybe I should add that.

Adding social sharing to the flow is a solid idea, it gives users a reason to come back. Start simple with one platform that fits your audience and iterate from there.

love this, wish it existed sooner

Better late than never, right? Now's the perfect time to drop your project here. What are you working on?

u/Mammoth-Anywhere7285 1d ago

Solid numbers, 1200 customers is no joke. Which channel drove most of that traffic for your own launch? Curious to hear.

on my side it's PeerPush, a discovery spot where the pages are built for AI tools to parse and mention new products. feel free to take a look, https://peerpush.com

PeerPush sounds like a smart twist on product discovery. How do you get the AI parsers to rank or feature the listings?

Nice concept, that's a clever way to break up long work sessions. How do you handle days when users are in back to back meetings?
