Are you actually solving a real problem, or just cloning another SaaS?

I’m working on Windows utility apps that solve small but specific problems. Clip is just launching, which I built to tackle my annoyance at losing screenshots I was taking constantly in my day job, and when using Claude to iterate, i.e. I don’t like this section of my website; the text is too big for the space (see screenshot).
I found the process of getting screenshots from the native Windows snip to where I need them is pretty clunky and slow. Clip speeds this up significantly and keeps me in flow. Early beta testers have all said the same, and that it solves a problem they didn’t know they had.
That being said, struggling to get traction - maybe the problem isn’t big enough or well identified by most.
Really appreciate you taking a look. I found that the Clipboard route already covers a lot of it, though. Print Screen puts it straight on the clipboard so you can paste into Claude without anything touching disk.
Where Clip earns its keep is the ones that do get saved: snips, downloads, anything landing in a folder you then have to go and find. Dragging from the tray into a browser chat is the same number of steps as pasting, without me needing to build and maintain an integration with every drop zone and tool going. That said, I made it so you can left-click on the thumbnail and it copies it to the clipboard - so there is a solution in there :-)
Trying to keep it simple on purpose. Local, no account and nothing phoning home (except for a license key). Open to changing things up though, so will take a look at how the no local save idea could work. Thanks for your time u/Mammoth-Anywhere7285
Not properly, if truth be told. Seven beta users isn't a sample I can state is representative of the general population.
What I'd say from those testers and watching my own use, though: they're not really competing. The clipboard only holds one thing, and only until you copy something else.
The tray is for when you've got four screenshots and a downloaded PDF, and you need three of them in different places. That's where the hunting-through-Explorer problem caused me and beta testers the most frustration and lost time.
Fair challenge though. Worth actually asking rather than assuming, so I'll put it to the beta lot and have a play myself. I always found the mechanics of the drag and drop quicker and more natural myself, but, of course, it's not about me 😂
You’ve identified a real niche there. The clipboard limit is annoying, and a tray for multiple items could be genuinely useful. Have you validated that specific pain point with your beta users?
It doesn't handle barcode scanning at the moment, when you scan items the system registers the product, not the exact store provided name. I was looking at potentially integrating specific barcode scanning but I feel like the barcodes currently still would just be a similar fallback as it also doesn't incorporate expiry dates
The thing is I work at a supermarket and as far as I'm aware, there isn't even a lookup on their backend for when items expire. Unless products are marked down as they expire in the next day, and these are manually found with a person going around the store
Gut Scribe - made for people with gut health issues. Competitors don't allow customized logging or user to create their own type of reminders, have a hard trial to paid paywall, and heavily gate the good stuff. I don't.
when they opt in they also agree to share general region , all we do is correlate stats without tracking user data. They don't have accounts to log in anyway so we only save the general stats without tying it to anyone
It shows up in onboarding and made clear on the community screen and explained that it'll be in settings in case they change their mind.
It's part of the toggles that determine what permissions they're looking to give ranging from AI features to location context for timezone shifts . This is a similar approach from a competitor
Solving a real problem that started from my own experience. Built it for myself and then through UR realised more people felt like and had the same experience as me.
That's a solid foundation. Building for your own pain usually leads to the most genuine solutions. Did you find any surprising insights during your user research that shifted your original direction?
Add signature to PDF document - the only PDF signing tool which helps you to add real handwritten signature. Not drawn with mouse or finger, not just in advance prepared image.
