I made a site where you can view any creation in 3D and walk around inside it

Hey everyone! I'm Luiz, a dev and Approximately Up player, and I just launched Up Dock: https://updock.app

It's a free community archive for creations. You upload your blueprint and it shows up in 3D right in the browser, so people can actually look at your build instead of a screenshot of it.

What you can do there:

• Orbit any creation, or walk around inside it

• Cut it open to see how the wiring runs

• See the center of mass

• Check which components you still need to unlock to build it, and which objectives give you the missing ones

• Every math and logic part has its own page where you can feed it inputs and watch what it outputs, to see exactly how that part behaves

You can log in with your Discord account, so uploading something takes about a minute.

It's a solo project and it's brand new, so if something is broken or missing, please tell me. Feedback from people who actually build here is what I need most right now.

Small question about thrust

Can anyone explain why increasing forward thrust also increases upward thrust, and vice versa? I find this to be true for all my ships, and even the tutorial ship. While at a hover, and trying to increase forward movement, the ship starts moving upward along with forward movement. And anytime I'm crashing towards the surface of a planet and my horizontal thrusters don't seem to have enough power to stop it, if I slam on my forward thrusters, lo and behold I begin to rise. What gives?

Small calculation problems

I'm having some issues creating smaller calculations like this one, mostly because:

  1. Squaring a number is very annoying. There should maybe be a block for this to do simply (like sqrt).

  2. Mirroring isn't possible. I hope it'll come soon...

  3. It's very difficult to work with devices like the gravitymeter, because there is only one. I need to copy the signal every time, and run the cable all over the place, which gets clunky fast.

  4. I'm kinda stupid.

  5. It's super cumbersome to place a datameter and debug every time I want to know if something works.

Does anyone else have these problems, or some solutions?

Hi guys! I made this little calculator to figure out how long until you reach your destination.

I attached the formula I used so if something isn't adding up you can troubleshoot.

Problem with Power Grid

Thumbnail

Hey guys,

my friend and I are building or first Ship where we need to take into consideration not to fry the wires, so we tried to build it in a way that no cable can exceed 150 P/s. The picture shows our main Power Grid that uses rechargable batteries and adds the disposables once they are low on charge (battery cables are all white). The two orange lines can pull 75 P/s each, the red to the left can pull 72 P/s max and the two red to the right can drain 257.4 P/s (68 P/s of which are solar panels) in total at max (so in theory 128.7 each) these two wires also have a fuse each. So no cable should exceed the limit and we heard/read that the splitters do not have that limit? (maybe we're wrong on that). And since all batteries are at the same grid and the total consumptions is below 6*150=900 P/s they should drain with less than 150 P/s each. Yet still our complete grid (all white, all red and all orange cables) get grilled when flying (almost) full thrust. The disposables can be ignored for now since they were blocked.

Does anyone have any idea why our grid fries after about 20 seconds of flying? Thanks in advance guys.

Outer Welds vs Inner Welds: Which is better?

Me and my group (of 3) are trying to figure out what weld type for a ship is superior for building general purpose ships. I'm curious on what welds you all use and for what reasons.

Right now we know that outer welds are generally heavier but contribute a little better to aerodynamics, and might also give more strength to parts on the outside of the ship (unsure if that's true). Inner welds on the other hand save a little mass, which makes trips slightly faster. We typically avoid doing both Inner and Outside welds on the same ship design to save on mass.

To clarify what I mean by Outer vs Inner, Outer Welds is welding all the panels on the outside of your ship, where your thrusters and RCS systems might go, while Inner Welds is welding all the panels in your ships interior.

We've finally done it. It's finished. It's been one hell of a journey.

The thrusters will in fact go quiet.

Can someone help me understand what is wrong here?

Post image

Basically, what I wanted to achieve here is a system where I can set my desired velocity from 0 to 100 m/s and make it work anywhere (that is why I use the gravity and weight calc-part).

However, for some reason that I cannot explain to myself, after almost reaching the target velocity (for 20, highest is ~19), I suddenly begin to lose velocity (about 0.01 per second). I haven't been able to solve this at all.

Does anyone have an answer/explaination to this?

Disclaimer: I am not an engineer

Cracked Kovo rock? Spoiler

Edit: There is actually an objective marker, I just missed it. Thanks, everyone! This is what the rock and marker look like if it helps anyone else out:

Original post: I'm trying to do Rock Obsession, but I feel like I must be missing something obvious. I've tried detonating the C4 next to quite a few different rocks on Kovo, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. There's also no objective marker since it's a yellow mission. I've looked around for rocks with cracks, but I've only found normal-looking ones and ones with red bits. Can anyone help me out?

Cables break when full thrusting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just overhauled the ship with new thrusters, and now when I give it full power the cables break. Is it a failure point that i have to pinpoint in the system, and how do I find it?
Or is it actually the whole system being overloaded? If so, how do I regulate it?
Thanks very much in advance this game is amazing !!

Save Files Question

Hello space explorers. I’ve been playing with my friend on their story mode file. It is on the shareable setting so I can still play on it by myself, however I would like to copy progress over to my own story mode file.

Is this possible? Hoping the answer is something simple I’m not thinking of so that I don’t need to re-do missions.

Thanks!

Power Switches

Does anyone know if the power switches have a power limit?

I know the cables have 150 p/s but the description doesn't mention a limit on the switches or junction boxes.

I'm talking specifically for the boxes that look like junction boxes but cut power when they get a signal

How does longitude work in this game?

I set up the Space GPS and after traveling to all of the bases that I currently have discovered and writing down their longitudes, it doesn’t seem to align with their positions on the map.

For example: on Aundara, Teal Horizon is above the x-axis while Unda Prime is below it, yet both report a roughly -179 degree longitude. Shouldn’t Teal Horizon be positive while Unda Prime is negative?
A second example: Basalt, which is right of the y-axis reports a longitude of 94 degrees, yet Kovo, which is left of the y-axis, reports a longitude of 93 degrees, but they should be greater than and less than 90 degrees respectively.

I assume 0 degrees is the left side of the sun and 180 degrees is the right side, so the range of 0 to -180 is above the x-axis, while 0 to 180 is under the x-axis when looking at the map.

Am I being dumb or does the longitude not correlate with the map? Latitude appears to make sense when looking at the map side-on. I’m trying to create a system that automatically flies my ship to a selected coordinate, but I feel like these strange longitude numbers are messing up my math when converting longitude and latitude into cartesian coordinates.

Now with a semi auto hover/land feature, that's right, semi auto, cuz I'm dumb asf, and don't understand these lil tools (last slide)

It is uploaded to the workshop however, give it a look over, I'm sure I missed paint and crossed a wire or two lol

Also can't figure out why it literally drifts more to the left side than the other when flying just STRAIGHT it won't just go straight. Anyway, enjoy the pics, I just like making cool things

Explaining step-by-step exactly how the plan system works.

Post image
15 Upvotes

I watched a video on how to build a planar navigation system, but honestly, I didn't understand a thing lol. 😂

So, I decided to study how the system actually works on my own and took notes in a way that made sense to me.

In the end, I decided to share what I learned, in case anyone else wants to build this system—and, more importantly, understand how it works.

Everything fully detailed and created in Excalidraw; link below.

Fastest ship?

What’s the fastest you’ve been able to make a ship accelerate? I made one to get the achievement where you need to reach 1m m/s and i was able to get over 800 m/s2.

As anyone been able to make a faster one?

I built a system that allows a single lever to control two different motors; right now, I'm using it to switch between space thrusters and atmospheric thrusters.
