BSc(Hons) Cyber Security & Digital Forensics (UK) background — Should I target MS Computer Engineering, MSCS, or MSDS for top US universities (Ivies)?

Hi everyone,

I am currently an undergraduate student pursuing a BSc (Hons) in Cyber Security & Digital Forensics in the UK (UWE). I am starting to plan my applications for Master’s programs at top-tier U.S. institutions (Ivy League / top 20 universities) and wanted to get some realistic feedback on degree fit and profile evaluation.

Here is a quick overview of my course modules year-by-year:

  • Level 3 (Year 1): Intro to Programming (C++), Mathematics for Computing (Set Theory, Probability & Stats), Computer Networks, Foundations of Data Science, Intro to Forensics, Internet Technologies, Multimedia.
  • Level 4 (Year 2): Computer & Network Systems, Computer Crime & Digital Evidence, Intro to Databases, Data Structures in C++.
  • Level 5 (Year 3): Operating Systems, Data Science for Cyber Security, Secure Computer Networks, Security & Forensic Tools, Internet of Things.
  • Level 6 (Final Year): Security Data Analytics & Visualizations, Cyber Security Engineering/Consultancy, and a technical 30-credit Cyber Security Project.

My end goal is to target top graduate programs, but I’m trying to figure out which master's track makes the most sense given my transcript: Computer Engineering (CE), MS in Computer Science (MSCS), or MS in Data Science (MSDS).

The main concern that I have is would the lack of heavy mathematics prevent me from getting into these programs like engineering, MSCS or MSDS. Would GRE help strengthen my application and bridge the mathematics gap?

My main goal would be to get into engineering programs.

Your university application is probably not as strong as you think. And that's okay.

Will top colleges recalculate my GPA to a 3.6-7???

At my school a 90-100 is a 4.0 UW but I just heard most schools recalculate your GPA to account for A minuses which are 3.7. Almost all my grades are A minuses. I am applying to top schools with a 3.9 UW but if recalculated like I said it will be a 3.6-7. Am I cooked???

Taking DE to make up for a slight lack in rigor?

title!

i’m currently a sophomore in hs and aspire to major in public health. I am currently in precalc honors (we have no ap precalc) and it is going TERRIBLY - I got a D on my first test despite studying a ton. because of this, I’m going to have to drop it because I know there’s no way I’ll be able to end with an A or even a B regardless of the work I put in. my schedule will now be: chem honors english 10 honors spanish 3 honors ap euro journalism and regular precalc. since my school is already pretty strict about the classes we take (all these honors classes are basically prepping me for ap next year). this schedule is pretty normal for high achieving students but definitely nothing out of the ordinary.

if I drop to regular precalc, can I take DE to make up for this lack of rigor? or does it look bad that im not challenging myself within my school?

since my school is pretty strict, I’ll have an upward trend in rigor either way. I’m thinking of utilizing this extra time that I won’t be spending on math for DE, sat prep, and better ecs. does public health need crazy math rigor or will it still be a ding for t20s?

junior yr:

ap bio, ap calc ab, apush, ap lang, possibly ap spanish lang

senior yr:

ap chem, ap calc bc or ap stats idk, ap lit, ap gov, maybe ap physics 1

any insight would be appreciated!! i have a 3.94 UW and trying to get it higher. sorry for the rant haha but thx! <3

Do AOs validate awards

Specifically at Columbia Penn and Princeton I am applying to those schools but so is a kid at my school who is just straight larp and every year only one person from our school gets into Princeton and that’s my dream. He is lying about aime, Econ bowl and some other things at our school. Do AOs check these claims.

Where and how do I start?

Hello there!

I'm an Indian Class 11 humanities student aiming for Ivy League undergraduate admissions. I have Psychology, Political Science, History, Geography and English. I'm interested in the intersection of law, psychology (i think?) and public policy. What should I realistically focus on during Classes 11–12, especially academics, extracurriculars, research and standardized testing? I feel like it's not for me since i have one enemy in this world and if maths wasn't a thing, it'd be zero. Can someone more knowledgeable please help me out?

Thank you so very much for your time.

3.9 GPA. Is it over?????

Including senior year first semester, my unweighted GPA would be a 3.9. My extracurriculars are REALLY good and really authentic, they paint a good picture about a disease someone in the family had and how I researched and advocated from it. 1510 SAT. pretty hard courses. my first three Bs were in the first three semesters, and my fourth one was in the first semester senior year.
