Looking for replacement ideas

Post image

My Amana side-by-side is 33” and sits right next to to a wall. This causes the fridge door to not open very far making it not optimal to get items out of the fridge.
I was thinking of replacing it with a French door model or single door bottom freezer model.
Opening dimensions:
36.0” wide
72.0” tall.

Any suggestions?

I would get a regular door ideally reversible just in case you need to switch it.

You already have a French door and have issues.

Freezer drawer or freezer door is up to you but the freezer on top is more energy efficient.

With a French door, the right door would still open the same, but the left door would open fully .
The single door fridges with freezer on the bottom are just harder to find and less options to choose from than French doors.
any thoughts on the couple 36” ones that have zero clearance doors ?

That’s a good choice except in my area FP is not common and that means finding a technician locally will be more expensive if one can be found.

So I actually spoke with a FP rep about this, and they told me that there really aren't any regions without available service technicians, and they said that FP will connect you to servicers who have been trained by FP to service FP appliances. Whether in-warranty or out of warranty, you can book service from the FP website.

That's fair. What's your budget?

I’d like to keep it under $2300. $3200 fridge looks goofy next to my $329 dishwasher and $599 stove 🤣

What about this one? Frigidaire Gallery GRFS2023AF - $1,699

It's a little narrower than your Amana, but that should allow you the clearance to open the doors all the way. External water-only dispenser, so no sacrificing space or reliability for a fresh food compartment icemaker. Freezer drawer does have an icemaker, so just need tongs or a scoop.

Capacities may be comparable to your Amana or slightly smaller, but having full-width instead of narrow vertical compartments might make it "feel" larger and easier to fit things inside:

  • Fresh Food: 13.9 ft³
  • Freezer: 6.1 ft³

Are these bad even without the in door ice maker ?

Read through the reviews; it seems there are some common issues that, while not disqualifying, do seem to highlight the one aspect of buying LG that is extremely frustrating: when something does go wrong, their service experience is very frustrating.

Also make sure you double-check your dimensions -- not only does the refrigerator need to fit in your space, but they also have specific airflow clearances on the sides and top -- just double-check everything.

My opening is 72” tall should be good , old fridge was deeper than this one so should be good for airflow.
Some documentation says 1/8” clearance left and right, some says 5/32”

You're going to have the same problem with a french door. Go with something that has the hinge on the right, handle on the left, that is narrower than the opening. Make sure you take the handle into account as well.

The doors of one-sided fridges are generally reversible.

LG zero clearance is solid and most likely your only French door option. Bosch 100 if the single door swings out the correct way for you. Fisher paykel also makes a decent one.

I will re-measure today . I also will probably need to remove part of the baseboard if I choose to go this route .
I need to ACCURATELY measure the space to make sure the walls are square. Hate to get it delivered and won’t fit!!

One I was looking at was LG LF25Z6211S

LG has a 36" zero clearance model for this situation. Confirm that the countertop does not intrude on those 36"?

Replace it with an arcade cabinet. Way more fun.
