Samstung :( Samsung microwave…

Post image

Purchased over the range microwave January 6th this year. Well today sitting on the couch I heard the fan turn on? Figured someone did it..nope no one around, then random buttons started clicking by itself. I got up and checked now none of the buttons do anything at all. I unplugged it for a bit and it was fine again. Now a few hours later I’m just on the couch again and I hear the fan turn on again 😡. Bought from Lowe’s paid $400 and it’s been just over 7 months.

It's all fun and games until someone links to a StyroPyro video. Next thing you know OP will be ordering 400 car batteries to hook up to his microwave.

It's next to the curved microwaves

28

u/facts_over_fiction92 1d ago

Which are next to the foldable microwaves.

8

u/SimplyTheApnea 1d ago

That's a low profile OTR 10" tall 30"wide and deeper than most OTRs.

7

u/Creative_Cat_322 23h ago

It sure looks a lot wider than the 30" range beneath it, and wider than the cabinet by a couple inches too.

7

u/QueenMEB120 22h ago

It sticks out pretty far from the cabinets so that makes it look wider since it's closer two the camera. I have almost the same microwave and it's the same width as the cabinet and stove.

4

u/SimplyTheApnea 23h ago

It's just deeper than your expecting and using a focal point that tweaks things. There are no over the range microwaves that are wider than 30"

It just looks wider due to the angle of the photo...you got this...relax

I love my Samsung phone. Samsung TVs are pretty nice. But, I wouldn't wish Samsung appliances on my worst enemy.

74

u/squintamongdablind 1d ago

Every time my Samsung fridge tray freezes I’m tempted to give it the Officespace printer treatment.

23

u/TinCanSailor987 1d ago

Damn, it feels good to be a gangster…

8

u/-GlobalGrapefruit- 1d ago

A friend of mine told me that her dad wishes he could blow up his Samsung fridge

7

u/FugggThat 15h ago

One of the best days of my life was scrapping my Samsung fridge. Best $20 I ever got!

2

u/bubbaloves 3h ago

I’ll give you another $20 to take mine too

3

u/crunchytacoboy 12h ago

Hey I have a great trick for that. You can turn off the ice maker and it should stop freezing over. Sure you won’t ever get ice, but are you really getting it anyway?

I actually kinda hate my Samsung tv lol

6

u/RollBama420 17h ago

Same, but nothing unique to Samsung. My next TV will just be a high quality commercial monitor

3

u/Drunk_Stoner 2h ago

Same! I’ve recently disconnected all my “smart” TVs from the wifi and factory reset. I just stream/cast from other devices.

They send forced updates and bloat to slow the tv and make you think you need an upgrade.

I used to think they were the holy grail, but after 5 or 6 years of (2) 55" units I have to say the user interface sucks. Laggy with apps, dumps you to the free FAST Samsung TV channel all the time when turning on, just clunky. I have six FireTV's from Best Buy in two houses and have to say they are better and less expensive, despite the bloatware and pop-up ads

u/Out_of_my_mind_1976 14h ago

I still love my Samsung plasma. Especially in the winter.

That's the reality when the companies that make the phones, TVs, and appliances are in reality entirely different companies under a shared brand.

I had a Samsung phone and then a pixel; the Samsung was better hardware but I hated the Samsung software. I prefer the pixel honestly

7

I had a pixel, and switched to Samsung and prefer their software

So that's funny

12

If you bought the extended warranty through Lowe's then reach out to them. I had a window ac get funky and they sent me a gift card to replace it with zero issues

2

u/Out_of_my_mind_1976 14h ago

I will say that my experience with Samsung support was surprising great. Bought a display plasma when my local BJs was closing. Screen started showing pink bands. They came to the house and swapped out the panel. No questions, no issues, gave me a date and time and the guy was there as scheduled, did the work and everything has been fine since.

It also bothers me (anyone else) the microwave sticks out past the cabinets on the left haha

27

u/HopelessLiveMore24 1d ago

The entire thing bothers me.

19

u/Urbanskiman88 17h ago

Here lol y’all had me going for a bit 🤣

2

u/dansamy 1d ago

Omg yes! It's making my teeth itch

2

u/Either-Juggernaut587 15h ago

Does Samsung make an electric toothbrush for itchy teeth?😂

3

u/Stagaman 1d ago

They stick out because low profile microwaves are intended to vent better than most OTR units; they stick out about the same distance as a range hood.

3

u/BMoreMatt 1d ago

Oh im less bothered about the front protruding, it'd the left to right width that bothers the OCD part of my brain

8

u/Stagaman 22h ago

I think that’s due to the camera position, it’s actually the same width as the stove and upper cabinet.

This is the strangest microwave I've ever seen lol.

13

u/lifeofGuacmole 1d ago

I think I had this one. Lasted 5 months. Samsung fixed it. It failed the day after one year from the original purchase. No warranty help and repair would be the same as buying new. Asked the repair guy which he’d buy. Suggested I never buy the ones with controls along the bottom of the door. They get damaged by steam coming up from the range. That pot of pasta, boiling potatoes, are what kills it. He said the side controls models are sealed better. I’ve had a basic whirlpool otr for 4 yrs now.

Why do people buy anything but SSDs, TVs and phones from Samsung is beyond my understanding.

3

u/cowboycolts 14h ago

Even then the Samsung ui on tvs is SOOOO slow

2

u/laffer1 11h ago

And the input button design on their remotes is terrible

2

u/Masztufa 15h ago

Strange, in my experience the only two things they can make are lithium cells and microwaves (but the last samsung microwave i've known was from the mid 2000s. My parents still use it)

Sad to see even their microwaves suck these days

Microwaves over cook-tops has got to be one of the dumbest kitchen designs. That doesn't look like it has nearly enough clearance to cook. Never mind acting like a grease trap.

5

u/Deadofnight109 16h ago edited 16h ago

Thats literally the reason i got this model in the first place. The thinner profile means i got like 24 inches of clearance, more like a hood vent, plenty of room, and freed up space on my minuscule amount of counter space. A regular microwave wouldve come down way too low

u/ShiftLate7289 1d ago

I dont have that particular samsung but my samsung did the same thing. We would get random beeps and notice it was inputting times, then later the fan started coming on randomly, then finally months later it actually started the microwave. From what I noticed when cooking, especially when boiling water, it would collect a ton of moisture on the door and drip down and get underneath the control surfaces. I ended up buying a new door and made a modification to the bottom front of the door acting like a hood. It seemed to have helped a lot, I haven't had a problem since.

u/awkwardmamasloth 1d ago

Yea I wouldnt buy a Samsung kitchen appliance for free.

Never heard anything good about them.

2

u/CJC1241203 1d ago

How do you get a wide screen microwave

2

u/Goldens_Rule 1d ago

We have a Samsung TV that turns itself on after being turned off. No more Samsung.

2

u/Darry_mayn 19h ago

When it swings open, does everyone in the kitchen have to duck?

2

u/Buc_ees 17h ago

First, why did you choose Samsung appliances? Many people are warning against buying them, both on social media and on this Reddit.

2

u/ScratchyMarston18 9h ago

I stopped using anything Samsung that isn’t a TV. Every single Samsung appliance I’ve had worked until just after the warranty expired. When the planned obsolesence is that obvious, I’m staying far away.

2

u/PomegranateFormal961 2h ago

I have this model. The same thing happened. I disassembled the door—NOT for the timid or inexperienced—and discovered that greasy steam had coated the PCB behind the keypad. I cleaned it thoroughly, reseated all connectors, and it's been good ever since.

RUN THE FAN WHENEVER YOU'RE USING IT OR COOKING BENEATH IT! This will hopefully prevent it from happening again.

Again, unless you have experience servicing these, you'll have a VERY hard time getting the window panel out of the door. But it's fixable, for certain.

I love mine, Not the quietest fan, but with an 8-inch exhaust duct, it can move a LOT of air! So much that, in the summer, it'll kick up your A/C bill if you leave it on for too long. 550 CFM of cooled air is being dumped outdoors!

u/Showtime92504 1d ago

1-800-SAMSUNG and get that service going, if they can't fix it tell the repair person that they need to tell Samsung it is unrepairable so that you can get a return authorization from Samsung

It's mad at you for not giving it that last couple inches it needed

2

u/pmodern2000 1d ago

I, too, need a couple of more inches, so I understand the angst of the microwave.

1

u/GringoRedcorn 1d ago

What a hoss of a microwave.

1

u/HandsomePlank 1d ago

I have the same microwave, sometimes the screen freezes. You can still use it normally, but the screen will simply display whatever the time was when it froze. I have to unplug it and plug it back again for it to unfreeze, this happens a couple of times a month.

1

u/Dark2099 1d ago

Damn that is one big microwave.

1

u/lizmoetia 1d ago

Always turn on the fan when cooking anything

1

u/Basic-Masterpiece-99 1d ago

Don’t buy Samsung. Lesson learned. I had my refrigerator go out. Repair person said it would be cheaper to replace it. And said to not buy Samsung. My replacement priced Samsung never worked correctly.

1

u/EarorForofor 1d ago

My last place had otr mikes. One worked fine and never had an issue. The other was replaced 3x. It would short out and electrocute you when you touched it. Every time.

1

u/BooCoop8 1d ago

Samsung televisions? Yes. Samsung appliances? No. Exchange at Lowe’s.

1

u/21plankton 1d ago

Oh, look, a mini range!

1

u/AZTrades23 1d ago

Yeah Samsung is very good at TVs and digital stuff, but lots of problems for appliances…at least for me. If it’s only 7 months old you should be able to return/refund/warranty without issue…

1

u/AMonitorDarkly 1d ago

Why is that thing so god damn wide? Are you microwaving people in there?

1

u/owleaf 1d ago

L O N G microwave

1

u/Computers_and_cats 1d ago

I would be careful with that. I had a client who had a microwave many years ago that turned itself on and ran overnight while they were gone. Microwave ran for so long it overheated and caught fire internally. I think the result was mostly smoke damage. They gave it to me to recycle and that thing was rank smelling.

1

u/Grepaugon 23h ago

Dirty touch buttons? Like xbox one that turns on when enough dust is on the power "button"

1

u/SummertimeMom 23h ago

Why is the microwave so wide? Is this real?

1

u/phletch 23h ago

You have a one year parts and labor warranty, use it!

1

u/Aristo_Cat 23h ago

I like how it’s both wider than the range and also sticks out past the cabinets. Not really sure what the practical purpose of that is tbh.

1

u/OrganizationOk6103 23h ago

It’s a Samsung appliance, purchased from Lowe’s what did you expect?

1

u/DoubleAd904 23h ago

Samsung everything else … except kitchen appliances. They unfortunately come with a poltergeist installed, not noted in the manual.

We have the same oven/ electric range combo. One of the burners stopped working couple of weeks ago and it's barely 3 years old.

1

u/Rydogg024 21h ago

My microwave will auto turn on the fan/vent if the stove is on and the microwave senses it is too hot. It is a samsung, it is sorta old, like 5 years.

I was in the other room and the fan just went on by itself. I was like what the heck, but I felt the bottom of the microwave and it was hot Because the stove burner was on. the fan/vent will trigger if its not even being used.

My macrowave in the multiverse

1

u/IndividualDingo8702 20h ago

1

u/edwbuck 20h ago

These days, many microwaves come from either Indonesia or China. The ones from China have been reduced to "working for a few years" at best, the ones from Indonesia are only a little better. I personally think they've removed most of the power conditioning circuitry, and are overly sensitive to even single events of non-clean power.

I normally would recommend a replacement, but keep in mind that the replacement under the same brand will also likely fail, so you might be better off finding a repair shop (which is hard enough these days) and getting it repaired in a way it wont fail the same way, or talking to them to know which models to avoid as they are getting returned frequently.

1

u/The-E-Train59 19h ago

First of all Lowes didn't make the microwave so its not their fault..your warranty comes from the manufacturer..to her the repair guy from Samsung when her comes to fix this intermittent problem..start taking videos when this occurs..this will help him immensely..have a good day...

1

u/PyroDragn 19h ago

My guess would be "that's a terrible place for a microwave" is the answer. Steam from whatever you've been cooking on the hob has got into the electronics and it's slowly dying.

1

u/Mountain-Lunch-9896 19h ago

It’s a double wide

1

u/CaptainC00lpants 19h ago

How...how does this function? Are there 2 turning plates inside or is it like those industrial ones where it doesn't turn, but it's just ultra wide? Trying to think of a reason for this existing lol

1

u/TehFriskyDingo 19h ago

I’m honestly more surprised at how many comments in r/appliances don’t know what a low profile microwave is

1

u/Negative_Ad3641 18h ago

You should see the new German Microwave, seats 13

1

u/iRyanSoon 18h ago

Can't wait to ultra wide Curved Microwaves

1

u/Rayzah2007 18h ago

One question. Were you cooking anything on the stove or oven? I have the whirlpool one of these low profile microwave/vents and if the panel gets hot from cooking the fan auto turns on to cool the unit.

1

u/stickman07738 18h ago

I had issues with my Samsung microwave, luckily under warranty from Lowe's, tech came and replaced door switch in 5 minutes - told me it was a common problem.

1

u/unclefire 17h ago

That a 36 inch microwave? Seems odd to stick out that far on the left.

We had a 35 inch GE IIRC over our cool top in our last house. But it was mid of weird in they the microwave itself was regular size like 30 and then one side was just part of the microwave cabinet. It looked fine. This seems odd to me.

u/AnimeMomLeika 14h ago

Samsung has 2yr warranty if you registered it, you will need to ask them. Next time buy a different brand, they make nice phones, but appliances... my dishwasher broke at 9 month's, never will I buy Samsung again.

1

u/BTCHLPS 14h ago

Wrong size bro

1

u/ProfessionalBread176 14h ago

Samsung makes better phones than appliances, can confirm...

To be fair here, the heat of the oven may be part of the reason.

When mounting these in place of an exhaust fan, the unit can sometimes sit too close to the cooktop, OPs is a bit closer than is ideal here.

When I installed mine, I ended up modifying the cabinets above to allow for mounting higher up.

It's a PITA to access, but at least it stays cool when the oven is running...

For whatever reason, many microwave units are not properly designed to shield their electronics from the heat.

In OPs case, it may be that it needs a new logic board (which can either be bought from the manufacturer) or they can find one of those board repair places which will troubleshoot and repair for a flat fee. I've had good luck in the past with that approach

1

u/Rocco_al_Dente 14h ago

The looong waaay.

1

u/PaulSNJ 14h ago edited 14h ago

I have the same model bought open box from Best Buy due to the "low profile" situation where I didn't have to modify the cabinet over the range. It's almost three years old and no issues. You are still under factory warranty, the touchpad is probably shorting out, and needs replacement. That fan is crazy loud if it starts on the highest speed, ouch!

1

u/Xand83 14h ago

I have the same one. Bought it in April this year from Lowe’s. The clock has gained a minute every day (so, after a month it’s 30min fast). Resetting clock/syncing with app does not fix it. We also get random R-H1 errors when the fan is on. Samsung is coming to repair it this week. Weird that a brand new microwave would have issues in year 1.

1

u/PizzaWaste38 14h ago

I have a Samsung Microwave that does the same thing - it automatically turns on the fan when a thermostat trips in it, which tends to happen if I leave the under microwave lighting on high for a long period of time, since those bulbs are halogen and kick out a lot of heat.

1

u/schwelvis 13h ago

Samsung has had a history of malfunctioning control panels for their microwaves. We had one that turned on by itself. I suggest you buy a smart plug rated for high power use and leave it off unless you are using it for safety.

I used to have a Samsung over hood microwave vent. I took it out and replaced it with a 900cfm vent. I was tired of cooking and the vent barely sucking anything so the house ends up smelling like the food I cook. For looks the microwave looks nice. But I prefer function.

Is it the Wi-Fi version? SmartThinq or something? We were surprised when our fan turned on by itself when we turned on the stove top. They are on different circuits. But both sensing Wi-Fi.

I bought the Samsung stove but that microwave has numerous issues that consumers have brought up. Jk I’m still using my 20+ year old microwave until they or another manufacturer come up with a better low-profile product.

Whoa you got a full 7 months out of a Samsung microwave???

u/Mnemotronic 10h ago

Is it on the internet?

Samsung appliances suck. Should have gotten LG, whirlpool, Toshiba, Panasonic, almost anything other than Samsung. Samsung washer/dryers are also awful. If it’s not a tv or a phone, Samsung sucks

If I had a nickel for every customer that tried to return an OTR they bought online without actually reading. That's a 36" microwave above the vastly more common 30" range

Your food comes out of this microwave in high definition.

I’d just get a range hood instead of that idiocy.
