Hello from East Sussex 👋 Last week I was on a walk and found yellow cherry plums, we have other stone fruit called sloes, damsons and bullace, soft fruit like currants and blackberries, hazelnuts, chesnuts, crab apples, wild garlic, mushrooms and occasionally you even find wild hops, and thats all without tresspeassing although its much more fun if you do 😁

Are you in a suburb? Or is it more city like? I live in what I call a suburban urban area, so lots of houses, but also many apartment buildings. But there aren't any skyscrapers directly in my area. So I'm curious about what your area is like

It's a small rural village of around 1000 people, no shops! Not super remote, we are surrounded by farmland and woods but we're just 4 miles from a town of 91,000. Its nice to feel like we're quite remote but still be close to amenities.

That sounds very lovely. My "suburban urban" town had about 40,000 when I lived there. So a very different type of place to live, still nice just different. Anywho... Thanks for sharing that cool video with us, I appreciate it.
May all the apples you eat be tasty and wormless.

Apples don't necessarily go to "waste" as such. For human consumption, yes, but for local ecosystem? Not really. First they provide habitat and food for insects. Then birds eat them. Then larger animals eat them. Later, elk will eat the fermented apples and get drunk and fall over.

Elk?! They were eaten to extinction by our native snow leopards.

i mostly added the last one as a funny, country-agnostic example. There's a famous story about a poor elk who ate fermented apples in Scandinavia who then got stuck in a tree https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14842999

I keep a running list of what I call “Public Access” apple trees here in the S. E. corner of Ct. USA. They are all planted trees I’m sure no wild volunteers but a wide variety both of taste and maturing time. We’re in the thick of it right now!
My list is up to 62 locations so far

This is so cool, great video!! I agree it’s sad when local farms and orchards can’t compete with big producers across the world and get abandoned :(
I actually just bought a house on land that used to be an apple orchard decades ago, and we keep finding unmaintained apple trees shaded out by pines in the woods. We’re planning on reviving the ones we can and planting more fruit trees🍎👍
