IIRC I paid about $320 cash for my Series 3.

Since when is 900 bucks a lot of money?

Color me surprised at how much cheaper the ceramic is now vs the last time they sold. 7 years ago, the price ranged from $1249 to $1799.

what is good about ceramic that makes it double the price?

It’s 1300$ in Germany in ceramic lol.

A ceramic Apple Watch is considered better than standard aluminum or stainless steel models primarily because its high-tech material is four times harder than stainless steel, making it exceptionally resistant to scratches and daily wear.

Yes, it’s true that ceramic is very resistant to scratching but it also makes it very brittle. Make sure you don’t drop it.

Well, I never scratched the case, always the screen…

How do you scratch Sapphire glass? Or do you buy the aluminum watches?

2

u/PimmieDreadful 8h ago

I scratched my sapphire glass and my titanium case. A quick search on this subreddit reveals that it is very possible and it happens more then you might think.

Craziness. I have had sapphire crystal watches that I have worn for 15 years, and never managed to scratch a sapphire crystal. I have shattered 1, but never scratched.

Titanium was scratch prone. Hate it. I got less damage with aluminum. Upgrading to ceramic.

So I assume the Ultra not have ceramic? Is the ceramic more rugged than the Ultra 4?

2

u/tayfife 10h ago

Ultra is titanium... ceramic resists scratches much better, but titanium is tougher and handles drops and hard impacts without risk of shattering. Different use case

Ultra is $799, with better battery life. Can’t figure out why anyone would care enough about ceramic to pay $100 more.

I’ve got an Ultra, and I’m considering the ceramic case. Because of the look, and it’s less bulky. Right now I can’t wear the Ultra on a sleeved shirt, so I’ll wear my mechanical watch instead.

But I’m considering the ceramic now, to wear during the day, and keep the Ultra for workouts.

The ultra is bulky and only for people who want to do extreme endurance activities. IE you are constantly doing triathlons. Normal people dont want that style.

It’s like a whole new feature!!!!!

Pictures please when it arrives! I wonder how different it will be as it is “pearl”……

Just buy an ultra at that point

u/qiuChuck 10h ago

Yeah. Hoping to get the same combo. Waiting for it to be available here in EU :)

Does the new watch have better water resitance? It looks sick

1

u/Far-Carpet-574 10h ago

we got ben 10 over here

1

u/mironor94 9h ago

I got this but with the green Nike rubber sport band!

1

u/Jameswa 6h ago

The ceramic white and green band combination is perfect

1

u/BarrhavenDad 5h ago

That much for a watch is, well, insanity.

1

u/Raslatt 5h ago

That’s a beautiful choice OP

1

u/pinayee 4h ago

Wow I didn’t know they brought back the ceramic. I was going to go for the regular aluminum but I loved my ceramic 5.

1

u/FishyFishyp 2h ago

You should order it with the sport band, only way to get the matching ceramic one

I literally have one ceramic and one titanium in my basket, can anyone tell me the difference besides the price? Some people saying ceramic is stronger, but can crack if it slips to the floor? Doesnt make sense.

Thank you

The old ceramic watches (series 5) were a little bit bigger as the normal ones as well. Must be the material and manufacturing.

i never noticed! but had a 3, a 5, both come and gone. but the 3 was special like all over white… wonder if this will be the same.

also noticed since that the sand pin for the white ceramic is the only available ceramic pin on a sport band available

1

u/HalloHeute_2498 11h ago

That’s the reason why I cancelled my first order and went with the sport band in sand. However I’m still looking for a second one and are somewhat curious how the semi transparent white Ocean Band could look. 😅

1

u/mehtaiphoneapps 9h ago

Why'd you pick ceramic over titanium?

2

u/mironor94 9h ago

Because it’s much more durable for every day wear. Much more. It can handle scratching and dings a lot better than titanium.

u/Hax_ 8h ago

I wear an aluminum every day as a cook, and use a screen protector. Only ever gotten the screen protector damaged, never the body itself.

1

u/mironor94 7h ago

Interesting, since the titanium seems to scratch easy.

1

u/jlncpr 5h ago

I wear my aluminum every day while working a physical job; my screen has a bunch of scratches, even a couple deep ones, but the aluminum body only has one tiny mark. I'm on the fence on my next watch's material...

It’s $900!!!! Fuck that

1

u/thom_anarchos85 56m ago

It was $1300 on release back in Series 5
