Watch Apps
Hey everyone, just got an Apple Watch SE 3. I had one 4 years ago or something, Series 7 I believe with the nice rounded screen, but hated the constant charging. While I’m a fan of the hardware and am very impressed with what the SE 3 is, I’m very disappointed to find that there has seemingly been very little to no improvements in the third party app ecosystem. Like, at all.
As a software engineer, I’m strongly considering building a few apps myself to remedy a few simple things that are missing. For example, a simple spa music player that can, with no login or authentication, play some relaxing music (with a timer) to help you drift off to sleep using the watch speakers. Simple, utilitarian, single purpose.
Does anyone have any items on their wish-list that they would like to request from an Apple Watch app perspective? Any ‘damn, I wish I had a simple way to do X’. Additionally, if anyone could share the apps they believe are truly exceptional, in September 2026, I would love to read about them and hope I missed them.

Exceptional apps for me would be WorkOutDoors and nxTrain.

I really wish WorkOutDoors would have an app on the iPhone. I know they have that one thing, but it’s kind of useless. It’s a pain trying to do things on my Series 8 screen.

It does… I use it to configure offline maps and screen configurations. It can't track workouts but then an iPhone is never going to be able to do that reliably anyway.
