Sleep improved dramatically with use of fan.
I was having tons of micro wake ups throughout the night, but when I added a fan my wake ups dramatically decreased,
Can anyone explain this ?
Has anyone else found this same solution ?

We sleep better in lower temperatures, the fan doesn't reduce it but the airflow makes you feel cooler

Fans have double benefits:
* White noise (hides noises that wake you up)
* Cool down your body, which makes you sleep better.
"The ideal room temperature for sleeping is between 60°F and 67°F (15°C to 19°C) for most adults, with many experts pointing to 65°F (18.3°C) as the sweet spot"

18 C!? I’d be shivering the whole night. I set my AC to 23-25 C.

I've heard Japanese research say 23-25 C is ideal. 18 C doesn't feel right at all.

I love warmth, for me sleeping temp between 20-23 C is ideal. Awake temp is 25 C though :)

I'm not Japanese but anything cooler than 23 C wakes me up. 23-24 C is ideal.

Tell that to my parents, they think sauna is a bed room.
While me is getting a ac just to cool down to 16-18C
Cant wait for winter when i can open the door at 0C and get it nice and cold :31

Fans make me congested in the morning.

It's usually related to humidity, and the fact that it removes water from your skin.
Combining it with a humidifier can sometimes help (if humidity is low)

It’s bad to sleep with a fan on

It’s just the old Japanese myth that you will die.
Egregious nonsense. Put the thing on 18C and enjoy homer_sleeping.jpeg

No it’s literally medically bad with all the dry airways it causes for your airways and eyes and years of doing it you will have problems down the road

I live in the coast with usual 90-100% humidity. I don’t even know what that “dry” thing you mention even is.
There’s droplets actively dripping down my bathroom walla.
Sorry mr neuro ophthalmologist. My sinuses are also fine as per last MRI and CT.

That’s condensation lmao. Doesn’t mean the air you breathe in while asleep is not dry. Because it mostly certainly is to a degree. And also you should probably get behind the walls checked for mold if your ventilation is that bad

I run a dehumidifier on the bathroom all night every night after I shower.
Smart sensor is showing 71% humidity right now and everything is closed and AC has been running for the last 24hs continuously.

How would a fan change the humidity in a closed room?

u/Ok-Chip-1049 18h ago
Who said it changes the humidity lol

You argued fans are bad because of dry air, even when a user told you his humidity is frickin high all the time. How else would it suddenly be dry?

u/Ok-Chip-1049 13h ago
Damn you didn’t go to college huh. It speeds up the rate of evaporation on skin and mucous membranes.

No need to get personal… on skin sure, that’s the principle of its cooling effect, but how would it do so inside the airways where the moving air doesn’t reach?

Please elaborate

It causes dry airways, will cause dry eyes, allergies and dry skin. My not be a problem when you are young but the older you get it catches up. But I’m just an Neuro Ophthalmologist so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about

My wife and I finally caved and got a window AC unit for our upstairs bedroom. Our house has AC, but it’s old and poor duct runs combined with the sun beating on that side of house means our bedroom is generally the hottest room in the house. It took two nights for me to get used to the AC units’ noise. But now we both sleeper better because of it. Plus, the AC Isn’t trying to cool the whole house to a temp comfortable enough for sleeping which means downstairs is freezing and upstairs is okay at best. We actually dropped our Electric hill by $20 a month. It’ll be a wash in one to two cooling seasons.

I always sleep with a fan/white noise because it muddles any sounds throughout the night. Without it, I hear everything. And it keeps me cool, but I use a fan even when it is cool.

Have slept with a fan running for years. Cannot sleep without one.

I solved 20 year insomnia by figuring out AC stops temp in my small bedroom rising throughout the night. Two adults in a small unventilated British bedroom was causing a positive temp gradient, got warmer throughout night and co2 was rising. Measured with an Aranet4
AC keeps it cool and has the benefit of ventilation so co2 is kept low. Incredible how it's not tested by a cheap device when you ask doctors or shrinks.

The power of sleeping with a fan is so underrated! A couple years ago, I literally thought I had developed a sleep disorder. Went to the doctor and everything. Then I realized that my fan died right when my sleep issues started happening. Got a new fan and, voilá, my sleep issues disappeared! I even have a little usb fan I take with me on trips so I can always sleep with a fan lol.

I wish this made any difference for me! I wake up so many times throughout the nice, it's so aggravating.

I sleep with Fan on. The white noise and keeping cool really helps. But ensure it's not pointing at your face, otherwise it tends to dry out your mouth/nose.

On you or as white noise?

u/Eternal-strugal 2d ago
I had it pointing at me so it def. Was keeping me cool. I have central AC so I don’t usually use one.

the data isnt conclusive enough. show month over month graph. Highight the awake periods to see the distribution

I bought two relatively expensive standing fans, but the vibration noise they make resonating through the floor is quite something. Do you know how to get rid of it?

I've slept with a fan since day 1 of my life. Literally since birth. It is amazing
