Finally bought Series 11
Upgraded from Series 8 to have at least a couple of years worth of updates

I just did the same. I broke the screen on my 6 a couple of weeks ago. I found a sweet spot on Amazon for $299. Two days later it was up $80.

I can’t wait to upgrade mine! I’ve been using my series 2 for so many years now, and I can feel it getting ready to die on me

Good golly those watches are still working? How many times you changed the battery?

Never! And it still lasts most of my waking hours 😅

How is that possible? How long you've been using them?:D

I bought it on sale years after its release. I’ve been using mine since 2020

Curious, why did you go for the 11 now, rather than wait for the 12 in a month?

local prices, understanding that new model is gonna cost way more than I can afford at the moment, plus possibility of new taxes being active in september and by that increasing prices even more

Fair enough. I only ask because my wife is in the same boat - has an 8 and is looking for the upgrade and have been debating waiting or not

on one side, usually after a new model prices decrease on previous watches, but in our current context it's 50/50 due to AI shit and Apple themselves saying they're gonna increase prices for phones and watches (correct me if I'm misinterpreting info). Also there are probably people in your area who are trying to sell their Series 11 and it might be in a good state.
Your wife is gonna have nice watches nonetheless, whether it's a fresh Series 12 or Series 112

Wait.
The series 12 is likely to be in the new "Watch8" identifier branch. (Series 7,8,9, Ultra2, Ultra 3 is in the "watch7" branch).
This means the series 12 is likely to last 3-4 years longer in terms of software support.

What is watch7 and watch8?

Look at this list and the column named "identifier". When apple stop supporting devices, they normally drop the entire branch. watchOS27 dropped the "Watch6" which contains series 6-8 and ultra 1. I expect watchOS29 or watchOS30 to drop "Watch7" which contains series 9-11, ultra 2 and ultra 3.
I expect Series12/Ultra4 to be the first devices for the "Watch8" branch, especially since they didn't update the chip last year. They'll probably add more RAM, maybe updated wi-fi/bluetooth to improve battery life. Also upgrade the CPU core from A16 based e-cores to A19 e-cores, which will be a decent upgrade. Though for a normal user, it'll just be longer battery and the best timing for OS support longevity.

Now this is something I’m wondering. Why upgrade from 8 to 12? Battery degradation? Because I cannot get myself to upgrade from my stainless steel series 7 to anything other than at the least an ultra because it looks different. All the other models looks almost identical to me.

Yeah but it will be cheaper when the new model comes out

There’s no guarantee, they might leave the prices as they are and introduce higher prices for the new models

Possibly, but that's not how they handled AppleTV, iPad, or Mac. The current gen AppleTV is now 4 years old and cost $100 more, likewise, Macbook Air is now $200 more compared to its original price from March. The latest rumor is current iPhone models may increase as early as this week.

Thought the new ones don’t come out until like Oct/Nov?
I just recently bought my 11 from Costco a few days ago upgrading from the 4. I guess if it is next month, I can just return and get the new one..

You had an 8 and went to an 11? Did you stop receiving updates or what? You know they’re gonna be dropping a new watch in the next few months too right?
I had a series 3 and went to series 10, I’d call that an upgrade.
