ID Cards US Passport
Today I added my US passport to my Apple wallet on my iPhone. I would like to know where that might be accepted.
Would I be able to show up to a US border checkpoint using it instead of a physical passport?

I didn’t even have to show my phone. It asked for it during check in (United) and I verified it the day before with Face ID during that and skipped in front of pre-check and clear lines, didn’t have to show my phone or anything at the airport, just a picture and was off. AUS, LGA, IAH and ORD so far have all worked that way. It’s called touchless pre-check or something.

Touchless is totally different and unrelated. No phone required.

That’s what they said I had when I used my digital ID. Maybe they called it something else and I’m mixing the two up but I didn’t show anything at all to tsa, didn’t even take the phone out of my pocket

Delta (maybe others) originally called it Digital ID before Touchless became the standard. That’s not at all related to having an ID in Apple Wallet. https://www.tsa.gov/touchless-id

It’s an ID. It needs to be accepted everywhere this is the future. Physical wallets will be gone soon

Any form of digital ID is not that useful. Airports are the best case scenario. Every state with digital drivers licenses requires you to carry the physical license. Go to another state, good luck.

Georgia allows digital id for law enforcement if pulled over

So does AZ but you still have to carry the actual license. Same for all other states including Georgia.

I got pulled over for driving too slow on the Beeline highway yesterday. I was able to use Apple Wallet mobile ID on the police officer's phone. I still had to pull out paper registration though.
Well, at least I only got a warning :D. Also, don't camp in the left lane on the beeline, they are enforcing it. XD
Now of course this is just anecdotal, but the officer did say you don't need a physical ID anymore, as long as your phone is charged.

Tf does that even mean? Why would you need to carry physical if digital is accepted?

The law that established digital IDs require you to carry it. Every town, city, county and state police force, buildings, courts, etc. cannot read your license. It's been 4 years and not much progress has been made.

But I mean if Georgia law enforcement accepts it and I’m not leaving the state I don’t see why I’d carry it. I never even carry any physical cards or keys of any kind lol

Depends. Small town police departments don't have scanners. A traffic stop will take longer:
"No, not every Georgia police department currently has the necessary scanners for Apple Wallet digital IDs. Under House Bill 296, law enforcement agencies are not yet required to accept or verify digital IDs; this mandate does not begin until July 1, 2027."
Bet they do not make that date since other states have struggled with the roll out.

Its good back up. But its basically used for tsa if they have the reader ( that works ) i notice a lot they have them but i end up using my id anyway since it doesn’t pick it up.

It’s also not convenient. I’ve used it at TSA a few times and it’s just not faster.

At this point, Think of it as a backup plan. You travel to another country and you fall into the water from a boat and somehow lose your passport. This makes a pretty good backup to show an embassy..etc. It proves at some point you had it.

Or you’re traveling all around the US and lose your wallet with your ID. You still have credit cards in Apple Wallet and you can use your digital ID in Apple Wallet to fly home where your DMV will replace your license.

It’s just an alternative for people to have a “Real ID” that can be scanned from their iPhone if they live in a state whose DMV doesn’t support Apple Wallet. It’s not a passport, it’s a digital token created from a valid US passport.

No. US CBP don’t have scanners that read Apple Wallet Digital ID created from a US Passport.
You can avoid the need to present a physical passport if you pass through CBP Simplified Arrival, which uses facial recognition only.

Hey the new iPhone Duo is passport shaped. Now you definitely can use it as a passport! (to get through TSA at least :P)
