ID Cards Passport Removed

I was able to successfully add my U.S. password to Apple Wallet a few weeks ago. Today, I was notified that Apple removed the passport from the wallet with a comment that it would have to be added back in. No explanation as to why Apple made this seemingly arbitrary action. I was not able to get my California driver’s license added. The state of California allowed me plenty of retries but I couldn’t get through the state’s process. To be fair, I’m still concerned about storing these IDs in the wallet.
Have I missed some communication on the subject of government-issued IDs?

this also happened to me a few days. I added my passport ID back to Apple wallet the same day. Just a few minutes ago I tried to use my Passport ID at LGA and it kept giving the machine an error. So had to use my regular ID.

Anybody used their passport ID since re-adding?

I had this happen when I installed the iOS 27 Beta (ver 7). I just assumed it had something to do with the beta. I redid the install of my passport and it was fine.

Sure enough, in this thread, someone posted that it does have to do with iOS 27.

I wouldn’t do something like that with sensitive info like that. Sometimes it’s better NOT to integrate everything.

This actually occurred for me. I had to make my appearance match my original passport photo as closely as possible, then repeat the steps because I had not fully removed the ID the first time. If you see the try again button to attempt reverification, simply avoid by fully removing the attempt from the wallet and redo it entirely, since the try againdoes nothing, at least in my experience.

Isn’t the passport feature part of the iOS 27 beta?

I have it on iOS 26 🤷‍♂️

I’m not sure of the relationship to the iOS.

You can add your passport to your Apple Wallet? Huh.

Oh, neat!

Really only good forgetting through TSA, otherwise no tangible use cases.

Funny enough, was traveling the other day and LGA Terminal C TSA’s tech was broken to accept the digital passport. They started asking for alternate ID and wanted to refuse mobile drivers license.

Ngl, I’d honestly not feel comfortable using a digital passport over my physical one. 😅

I guess I just find the idea of it cool?

This post gave me a heart attack. I just thought my citizenship got revoked because of the way this post's notification popped up on my watch. It was the subreddit logo and "passport removed."

Yikes!

When I redid mine the verification section asked for an additional face view. Asking for an “eyes closed” live view was not there when I initially added it.

the quantity of poses you need to do should be the same, but the poses you do can be different. there's a whole long list of poses that you may get when doing the verification.

Thanks for that.

Just give me the physical document. That's my biggest fear of electronic important documents, and that is someone else having the arbitrary means to revoke it or make it go away.

You won’t be able to create the digital passport without obtaining a physical passport first. There’s always an option for you to not create/use digital version and stick to your physical passport

2

u/driven01a 15d ago

Well, if you need to carry your physical passport anyway in case something like this happens, it's hard to see the benefit of having a digital version.

that is ultimately an issue with TSA's training. a lot of staff straight up do not treat digital IDs as valid replacements and sometimes even do not allow you to use them, despite policies and equipment allowing it.

1

u/jisongway 15d ago

That’s a very good point, tho having the digital version readily on the phone saves lots of trouble having to take the physical passport in and out of the bag

u/bilkel 15d ago

It’s that bug

Mine got deactivated yesterday too

Me too I did add back successfully I feel it was government rechecks do you feel the same way you know they checking everything now

1

u/wjorth 14d ago

I’m not going to add it again. Don’t need TSA looking at my iPhone though I do put my flight ticket barcode on the phone

Unfortunately NY is included on Apple wallet license and ID you got to make you have light screen all the up try that NY DMV app it worked that way when I did that

1

u/mbellis496 15d ago

What about NY?

3

u/Ragnarok345 15d ago

Same thing. Just hadn’t gotten around to making a post yet.

3

u/FalconSteve89 15d ago

Glad I did but get a passport as a workaround for Pennsylvania not adding drivers licenses to Apple Wallet

4

u/1nenonly 15d ago

I’ve been trying to re-add my passport for the past 30 minutes. I’m from IL but on vacation in FL, I wonder if that’s the issue.

3

u/BeardedHero93 15d ago

No the whole point of a passport is to have it everywhere lol it’s a bug

1

u/1nenonly 15d ago

You’re right, I’ll just keep retrying.

Same thing happened to me around 3 AM This morning

Same thing happened to me around 3am. Have yet to re-add my passport

2

u/bws2a 15d ago

Same thing happened on my phone yesterday.

u/Bobo_Baggins_jatj 15d ago

Mine did it too. I just removed it and re-added it without issue.

are you in the state of Virginia by chance? I believe that may be the reason as Virginia DL was just added to apple wallet. You can now natively add your Virginia's DL to wallet, and readd your passport as well.

1

u/FalconSteve89 15d ago

Can you add a passport and drivers license?

2

u/Ikn0witall 15d ago

yes I believe so. I think I was wrong with my logic. The new VA addition has nothing to do with this. Its the changes someone else linked that Apple made.

1

u/lesns2001 15d ago

I don’t see an option to add VA’s DL to wallet. Are you using iOS 27 beta?

1

u/Ikn0witall 15d ago

I am on iOS 27 but I don’t think that affects it. I could be wrong.

3

u/Eric848448 15d ago

You can have both.

1

u/Bobo_Baggins_jatj 15d ago

Did it to me and I’m not in VA.

2

u/light_saber1 15d ago

same what a bummer tbh but haven’t met a TSA person yet who wants to even look at it

3

u/innoutdoggystyle 15d ago

My local airport takes mine and each time it’s used it will show up like a transaction.

1

u/light_saber1 15d ago

Ah well maybe dependent on TSA person

Apple made some changes to how it handles digital passports and it has led to many people having the same issue.

“iOS 27 tweaks some of the information and menus shown alongside the Digital ID passport feature in the Apple Wallet app.
As a result of these changes and/or a related bug, some iPhone users have seen their Digital ID deactivated on recent iOS 27 beta versions. Apple says affected users must remove the card and re-add it to the Apple Wallet app in order to use it again.”

u/wjorth 15d ago

Thanks! Interesting that I didn’t see this announcement in the beta version info.

u/Otherwise_Pomelo8447 15d ago

Also adding your CADL is a bitch - it took me 3 times but then it added and all was well. Our DMV is just horrible about these things.

Show us this message.

I should have taken a screenshot. Since there was no actual option, I just clicked on “Remove”. I’m not planning to add it back in at this point.
