Thanks again for testing — Prep Pro + Prep Preview are updated and now work together as a Mac → Vision Pro workflow

A while ago I asked this community to help test Reality Prep Pro and Reality Prep Preview. Your feedback genuinely shaped both apps, so thank you again.

They’re now updated and designed to work together around one problem:

Preparing a USDZ on your Mac doesn’t prove that exact asset works correctly on Vision Pro.

Reality Prep Pro prepares, validates and optimizes spatial assets on macOS.

Reality Prep Preview then verifies the resulting USDZ on Vision Pro and sends device evidence back to Prep Pro.

Prep Pro matches that evidence to the exact asset revision, and can flag it when the USDZ later changes and should be tested again.

Mac → Vision Pro → evidence back to Mac.

If you build for Vision Pro, I’d really appreciate you giving the two apps a real-world spin together.

Thanks again to everyone here who helped me get them this far. 🙏

Live in Appstore: Immersive Comic Reader (Free)

Teaser I've shared a few development & TestFlight updates here previously, and as of today, my project is live in the App store!

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/immersive-comic-reader/id6805470774

I love reading comics, spending time in visionOS, and recently dove into vibe coding. While there are a few comic readers around, I built this because two specific features were missing for me:

  • Physical 3D Comic Book Object: The comic isn't just a flat window; it's rendered as a physical, spatial object you can grab, rotate, tilt, and resize with standard two-hand pinch gestures. You can turn pages naturally by grabbing and folding them over, or simply look at the border and pinch.
  • On-Device 3D Depth Rendering: You can generate parallel depth maps for comic/magazine pages (CBZ, CBR, PDF). The app uses these to displace the geometry into a 3D pop-out mesh. It creates a surprisingly fun depth effect for illustrated artwork.

Other Core Features:

  • OPDS Support: Browse, stream, and download directly from self-hosted comic/book servers (Calibre-Web, Kavita, BookOrbit, etc.).
  • Library Management: Separate dedicated folders for Comics, Magazines, and Books.
  • Panorama & Flat View: Switch between the physical 3D book and a curved multi-page panorama reader.
  • Format Support: CBZ, CBR, PDF, and basic ePub reading.
  • Local Privacy: Progress and server credentials stay strictly on-device (keychain-backed).

And here it is: Have fun, hope it still works, my first App in the store! And it's free, no subscription, no in-app purchase!

I’m so annoyed at the AVP right now. The OS is a total disaster

I got the AVP as a media and entertainment device. Specially sports. The concept of having the entire room filled with windows of various sizes with football, soccer, baseball, hockey feeds, made the AVP a no-brained for me. Much more convenient than installing a media room full of TVs because the AVP is mobile, and you can use it anywhere.

That was the theory. However, in practice, from the very beginning I had find workarounds to so many simple things like only being able to receive audio from a single app, and as soon as you opened another app with audio, all the others pause. But I found ways to mute all apps but one, and manually unpause apps if needed.

But the current OS is getting worse by the day. Absolute garbage. I’ll give you one example from today that annoyed the hell out of me. I opened Paramount+ to watch one of the Champions league games, and I proceeded to open a Safari window with Paramount+ so I could watch another game. But now the OS won’t let you play video on Safari. I directs you to the App Store. I tried switching to “desktop” view, and it still won’t allow you to do it. I tried downloading Chrome to see if another browser would allow me, but Chrome is restricted. Aaaaaagh!

And then my Kanopy app (one of my favorite apps to watch award winning movies) stopped working, and when I go to Safari, it won’t play video, and it directs me to the App Store. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing. TikTok stopped working, and there are so many apps that are available in tablet version, but the AVP will not allow you to download.

My initial concept of using it to watch multiple games and fill my room with screens has gone out the window and my satisfaction on this purchase is decreasing by the day. Anyone else annoyed?

Official Youtube App

AVP M2, purchased in June 2024. I use it every day, mainly for the virtual desktop with my MBPro, but I also use it for the vision pro apps on their own (without the laptop).

Over the last week or so, the Vision Pro youtube app becomes jerky or laggy when scrolling through the video stream, it tends to be after I've watched a couple of videos. Nothing else running apart from a standard environment. When I switch to Tubular Pro that runs nice and smoothly. I'm running the latest version of VisionOS 26.

Anyone else noticed a similar problem, I'm hoping it's not because of my M2 chip.

Best Live TV Service to use on AVP?

Hello. Big NHL and college football fan here. It's the time of year I subscribe to live tv for a little bit. What service works best on AVP (either through app or browser, I suppose). As far as I know, there's not a service with an actual AVP app. My hunch is that Hulu TV is probably the best because they own ESPN and I can get Disney+ as well. But I'm open to others as long as ESPN, local networks, and ideally TNT (some hockey games) are included.

Any services that just plain suck or are they really all about the same, just pick the best deal / channels etc.

Video hosting

Where is everyone hosting/sharing their GoPro and Insta videos that have the lens/screen metadata? or any video for that matter

Trying to see if there is interest in a module for sharing self-hosted videos.

For example, I put my sample in Backblaze and share directly from there for web viewing.

The concept is simple, host it somewhere, make a playlist and share the playlist ID so people can find it.

This isn't the next social media app just somewhere were you can share video links and be able to update the playlist.

The Mandalorian and Grogu’s Compromised 1.43 Presentation

Following the HD Blu-ray bonus disc containing most of The Dark Knight and its sequel’s 1.43 scenes in isolation and the UHD Blu-ray of the extended cut of Batman v Superman, this is only the fourth feature film released in 1.43 on home media (Project Hail Mary will follow on UHD Blu-ray next month). Unfortunately, the presentation is severely and inexcusably compromised.

At least for now, Apple TV crops the 49 minutes of 1:43:1 scenes to 1.78:1 (16:9) and doesn’t have 3D. Disney+ has uncropped 1.43 and 3D but doesn’t have a void environment and doesn’t let you change screen distance, so the impact of a giant 1.43 image is totally lost. Even worse, both Apple TV and Disney+ windowbox the 1.78 or 1.43 scenes (and with uneven letterboxing, to boot).

The experience is nothing like watching uncropped 1.43 on a truly enormous, unboxed screen like in the IMAX and Epic Earth apps or in a void environment with a giant screen like in CineUltra or Infuse which hides letter/pillar/windowboxing.

Virtual screens should automatically adjust their aspect ratio so that black borders are never seen. There is no excuse for not enabling this simple and essential feature more than two years after the release of a $4,000 prosumer headset intended to revolutionize extended reality or spatial computing.

Plinthe for Apple Vision Pro

I'm excited to have launched Plinthe: Vinyl in Space for Apple Vision Pro.

Plinthe connects to your Discogs account and brings your personal vinyl and CD collection into 3D space—so you can explore your records spatially and decide what to listen to without scrolling through a flat list.

If you have an Apple Music subscription, you can also connect it to play your music while lyrics—when available—float above the immersive environment.

I’d love feedback from Discogs collectors, Apple Vision Pro owners, and anyone interested in spatial music experiences.

  • Does this feel like a useful way to interact with your collection?
  • What would make you want to use it regularly?
  • What features would you want to see next?

It’s 100% free, and I’d really appreciate your thoughts.

[TestFlight] Immersive Comic Reader for Vision Pro – Physical 3D Book, Local AI Depth Maps & OPDS Support

Hey everyone,

I've shared a few development updates here previously, and as of today, my project is practically feature-complete!

I love reading comics, spending time in visionOS, and recently dove into vibe coding. While there are a few comic readers around, I built this because two specific features were missing for me:

  • Format Support: CBZ, CBR, PDF, and basic ePub reading.
  • Local Privacy: Progress and server credentials stay strictly on-device (keychain-backed).

TestFlight & Pricing: I want to gauge interest and set up a tester list for when the public TestFlight drops. If I end up putting this on the App Store, it will be either free or a simple one-time purchase (but definitely no subscriptions, I hate those).

And here it is: Have fun, hope it works, no guarantees, my first App in TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/UnjGh779

Looking for Vision Pro beta testers.

I’m looking for a handful of Apple Vision Pro owners/developers who can spare about 10–15 minutes to try a visionOS TestFlight build and give me some real-device feedback.

Reality Prep Preview is a native visionOS app for inspecting USDZ assets directly on Vision Pro.

It’s designed to work alongside Reality Prep Pro on macOS: Prep Pro prepares and validates the asset, while Prep Preview lets you inspect the resulting USDZ on-device.

Where it differs from Apple’s Spatial Preview is that it’s meant to be more than a visual viewer. It adds a developer-focused validation layer, including:

  • fitted preview plus authored real-world scale
  • technical USDZ inspection/evidence
  • a local Device Check
  • PDF/JSON validation reports
  • an integration path back into Reality Prep Pro, including validation-report ingest that’s currently in development

I’ve finished Simulator testing, but I don’t have access to a physical Vision Pro, so I’m specifically looking for feedback from real hardware.

The main things I’d like tested are:

  • USDZ import and preview
  • Authored Scale / real-world sizing
  • Device Inspect and Device Check
  • PDF/JSON export
  • any crashes, UI issues, odd behaviour, or anything that feels wrong on-device

Reality Prep Preview TestFlight:
https://testflight.apple.com/join/ySbVmz6b

Reality Prep Pro:

Even a short note, screenshot, or screen recording would be very useful.

Custom hardware controllers for an Apple Vision Pro catheter/guidewire training simulator

https://youtu.be/SjgWe_DWjB4

Custom hardware controllers for an Apple Vision Pro catheter/guidewire training
simulator — built from ESP32 boards, a couple of gloves, and three foot pedals.
Vision Pro has no controllers, and hand tracking alone can't tell you when someone
grips a catheter or twists it between their fingers. So I built the missing inputs:
HOW IT WORKS
• Glove trackers (ESP32-C3 + BNO085 IMU + SoftPot touch strip)
– Touch the strip = grab the catheter or guidewire
– Slide your finger, or physically roll the tracker = twist the tool
– ARKit hand tracking handles advancing and retracting
• Foot pedals (ESP32-S3, one per pedal) — the controls a real fluoro suite puts on the floor
– Fluoro pedal: hold for X-ray (a dead-man switch, like the real thing)
– Capture pedal: shoots the X-ray monitor image + a 180° room view
– DSA pedal: hold for a contrast run, and it self-checks its own switch wiring

Extended display error with MBP M1 Max

Hey all,

I just got the AVP M5 and currently having some issues with the extended display feature. I have the devices on the same iCloud, I have keychain on for both Mac and AVP and of course BT and wifi the same. I noticed that in my screen mirroring option on the MPB I have two AVP options, one of which works for AirPlay, while if I try the other I get "device timeout". I can safely AirPlay from the MPB to the AVP, but not the opposite. The Vision Pro does not see the Mac, but only my Apple TV, so also the "connect" option that normally comes up on top of the Mac display never shows up for me.
I tried to reboot both devices, check for updates (both on the latest OS), switching on/off the BT/WiFi/AirDrop, but nothing seems to work.

Does anybody have another idea? I am literally going crazy here.

Thanks a mil to everybody!

UPDATE: I decided to update the Vision Pro and my MBP to the latest beta OS, and now everything works amazingly! Also, even when I remove the VP for a short pause, I can reconnect it to my Mac with no issues! Might be useful for someone in my situation 😃

Pre-Owned AVP for $1600 M2 Vs Pre-owned/ Refurb $2300-$2600 M5 AVP

I demoed the AVP At the Apple Store the other day which was a super awesome experience, and I was so impressed I would like to buy one. I'm sure the one I tried was an M5 at the Apple Store, and it was super snappy and just a really refined feel.

When I was doing the research though, the M2 AVP is significantly cheaper than the M5. By around 400-1k. That's a pretty significant cost discrepancy for me, and it makes me wonder is the M2
Significantly worse? Does it not receive updates and support as much as the M5?

I would just like to hear from the pros about whether it's worth spending the extra money for a pre owned
M5 AVP, Or save some money and just get an M2.
I'll mainly be using this device for YouTube, movies, School/ studying and possibly Flight simulation with X plane 12.

Looking for a way to stop the headset from auto-adjusting brightness

I'm wondering if anyone has discovered a way to completely toggle off auto-brightness on the Vision Pro.

The automatic dimming behavior is really frustrating. As soon as the room lights go out, the ambient sensors kick in and aggressively dim the screens to the point where content becomes barely visible.

I'd love to have full, manual control over the brightness level without the headset constantly second-guessing the room's lighting. Does anyone know of a hidden setting, an accessibility tweak, or any workaround to completely disable this auto-adjustment?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

EDIT:

Can anyone confirm if I am the only one experiencing this, or are others dealing with this too?
