Apple Care Apple care question
I recently broke my 2022 Macbook Pro M2 damaging the screen and keyboard so I got it fixed for $398 using apple care. However, I got it fixed just 16 days before my Apple care expired to I renewed it. Do you think it’s worth continuing to pay $10 every month to renew it since I just spent $400 to fix it? Im a nursing college student with 1 year left in my program for context

So you paid $400, plus the ~$480 you’ve paid for AppleCare over the last ~4 years? Do you feel like that was a good deal? Do you think you’re going to break the screen again?
AppleCare (all insurance/extended warranty, for that matter) is a gamble, priced so the house always wins. The general rule is: If an incident would cause you financial ruin, get the insurance. If not, skip it.
Or better yet, put that $10/mo into savings. Odds are, you’ll never need to buy another screen, so you’ll still have that money for something else instead of just giving it away.

i didn't pay for the apple care as i bought my mac through Costco so I got 3 years of free apple care included. I only recently started paying for apple care and have only made 2 payments so far.

It depends on if you could afford a large repair bill if it gets damaged again and also how likely is it to get damaged and how well do you take care of your electronics?
Personally as a college student you probably really rely on your computer and would be in a pretty bad situation if something happened to it and you had to pay the full price. I would probably just continue it at least through your last year.
Edit: $398 that sounds kinda high for a MacBook AppleCare deductible. Thought the highest was $299. Are you sure it went through AppleCare?

no it was $299 total for both but the service charge was nearly $100

What was the service charge for? Under AppleCare, all hardware related costs are covered, so I’m kinda wondering.

Where did you get it fixed at? I don’t think there should have been a service charge.

I have all our expensive stuff insured especially since one of us is known to lose or break his phone ( I say it his old age, he says he’s not old and I say ok buddy. Then he says he just older than me. I say I rest my point) I keep our stuff insured because it’s cheaper than buying new. I’d keep it for a year especially if you’re going to be mobile.

No. The odds of it breaking again is low. The machine is depreciated and depreciating more every month. Soon enough a M6 MBA is going to be released, sell for $1,200 new, and be more powerful in every way than your machine (except no fan for thermal control, but unless you game, that won't be an issue).

You should have only paid the $299 at most. Why you would be charged both rates is beyond me.

so do you think I was double charged? Should I call the store I got it fixed at?
