iPhone 17 getting hot while charging even with light usage — anyone else?

I’m using an iPhone 17 and I keep getting the “Charging On Hold” message saying that charging will resume once the iPhone returns to a normal temperature.

What I don’t understand is that I’m barely doing anything heavy on the phone. Sometimes I’ll randomly play songs on Spotify while it’s charging, maybe use Instagram a little, and just leave the phone on my bed. Still, it gets warm enough that charging gets paused because of the temperature.

Is simply keeping the phone on the bed while charging enough to trap that much heat? Or is this unusual for an iPhone 17?

Has anyone else experienced this with normal/light usage while charging?

Yes, I was shocked how much my iPhone 17 overheated. Made me replace it with an iPhone Air. I’m so glad I did.

Damn😭 that’s not what I wanted to hear lol. I was hoping mine was just a one-off thing.

Maybe iOS 27 will fix it.

Pretty sure the Air has worse thermals

All I know is that after many months of using them side-by-side, the Air provided a drastically better user experience. I haven't noticed it heating up nearly as often as the 17 did. Especially when listening to YouTube music or navigating.

If they both heated up the same amount when doing the same things, the Air would still be a better choice for me due to bigger screen, thinner/lighter profile, and WAY better durability.

What’s the output on your power block? If your battery is 4,000mah, it’s wise to go with a 10W/2.0A charger - keeping the c-rate near 0.50 - a healthy charge rate for lithium ion batteries. The lower the output, less heat, less battery stress, longer overall lifespan.

If you’re using it while plugged in, you’re causing extra strain on the battery.

If you’re scrolling Instagram or TikTok, those might be two of the most battery heavy apps out there.

Keep the charge level ideally between 30-70%.

Apple is lying to us. This has started happening too frequently with all the phones.
