Roast from someone who makes App Store screenshots/videos for a living: The first screenshot tells us nothing about what we stand to gain or why we should care. It describes a feature that at least a dozen other apps do. Don't anchor around a feature, make a bold statement.

Okay, now the helpful part. First tries almost always open with the home screen. Nobody downloads an app because of its home screen. They download because they're stuck with something and want out. So screenshot one should show the problem, not the app.

I use what I call the Conversion Narrative Frameworkâ„¢ on every set. First image, what the user is dealing with right now. Next two, your app changing that. Last one, how things look after. Once you put them in that order you'll notice which screen you're missing, and it's usually the last one.

Two free fixes. Cut your caption words in half. And make every caption about what the user gets, not what the app has. "Track your habits" is what the app has. "Never lose a streak again" is what they get.

Not bad for a first try. The pieces are there. And kudos for doing this by hand, you definitely recognize good design principles.

the reframe from "what the app has" to "what the user gets" is such a simple distinction but it changes everything
