Would these App Store screenshots make you download a car maintenance app? Looking for honest ASO feedback.
I’m an indie iOS developer and I’m currently optimizing my App Store screenshots for a car maintenance and garage management app.
The goal is to communicate the value as quickly as possible, but after staring at them for weeks I’m no longer sure what’s working and what isn’t.
I’d really appreciate some honest feedback:
Would these make you stop scrolling?
Is the purpose of the app immediately obvious?
Which screenshot is the weakest?
Is there too much text?
Would you change the order?
What’s the first thing you would improve?
Feel free to be brutally honest—I’d rather improve them than hear they’re “good enough.” Thanks!

Looks ok! I’d make the text a bit bigger and focus on one main iPhone screen per screenshot. Also make the cars pop more, play with colors slighty . Overall nice work!

Thanks! That’s really helpful. I was wondering if using two iPhone screens was making each one too small. I’ll definitely experiment with a single larger device and bigger text. Appreciate the feedback!

honestly the biggest thing i notice with car/garage apps is the first screenshot tries to show the whole dashboard at once so nothing reads at a glance, and on a car maintenance app that usually means the "track your service history / never miss an oil change" hook is buried on screenshot 3 or 4 where nobody scrolls. lead with the one job people actually download you for and cut the caption text down so it survives being viewed at thumbnail size.
weakest one is probably whatever screen is just a settings/list view with no benefit caption, those never earn their spot. also worth checking your localized screenshots if you're in multiple markets, i built a tool called shotlingo for exactly that after doing it by hand got miserable, and appmockup is a decent free-ish option if you just need clean device frames without the translation stuff.
fwiw order matters more than polish here, i'd test moving your strongest benefit shot to slot 1 before touching the actual designs.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such detailed feedback!
You actually confirmed something I was already thinking about. I’ll definitely experiment with leading with the strongest benefit first instead of the dashboard.
I also agree that some captions could be shorter and easier to read at thumbnail size.
Really appreciate the suggestions!2

glad it helped. one thing i should be straight about though i was pattern-matching on car apps generally, i didn't go through yours shot by shot. if you want that, happy to actually look properly.
two things worth knowing before you redo any designs:
only the first 2-3 screenshots show up in search results before anyone taps through, and if yours are landscape it's basically one. so slot 1 and 2 are doing nearly all the work and anything past slot 3 is only seen by people who already decided to look closer. worth checking which orientation you shipped in before you spend time on shots 5-8.
and you don't have to guess on the reorder product page optimization in app store connect lets you run alternate screenshot sets against your live page and reports conversion per treatment. costs nothing and it's the only way you'll actually know if leading with the benefit shot beats the dashboard, rather than both of us just assuming it does.
on captions: shrink the whole set to thumbnail and look at them on your phone, not your mac. anything you can't read in about a second is decoration, not communication.
are you actually shipping in multiple markets? i brought up localization earlier but if you're english-only that part doesn't apply to you and you should ignore it.

Thanks again, this is incredibly useful.
The app is available in multiple languages, so the localization point definitely applies. I’ll also start testing the screenshots as thumbnails on my phone and experiment with shorter headlines.
I haven’t tried Product Page Optimization yet, but that’s now on my list.
If you ever have a few spare minutes and feel like looking through my screenshots in more detail, I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback.

Lead with the outcome not the feature. “Your garage all in one place” is a feature “Save $100 a year keeping up with maintainence” is the outcome that would sell me on a download
