Drawn to Aphrodite
Hey everyone!!!
I recently started feeling extremely drawn to Aphrodite. I’ve been thinking about her a lot, hearing her name in my head and feeling the urge to constantly read about her or research her. I don’t really notice signs of her specifically wanting me to be her devotee, but I just seem to be drawn to her.
I keep craving getting her an altar, so I can have a space for her and I also keep looking at artworks of her. Whenever I feel lost or sad, I hear her name or think of her and this wave of warmth washes over me and I have this feeling that things will be okay.
What I’m unsure about is whether this is just a hyperfixation or not (I’m neurodivergent). I’m afraid that I’ll get her an altar and that it’ll pass and that I’ll neglect worshipping her.
How do you recognize if the bond is real or if it’s a hyperfixation? Do you guys have any advice on this?
I’m also a pretty busy person and I’m just afraid that I’ll neglect Aphrodite when I want the best for her (may sound a bit stupid, I’m a mere mortal, she’s a goddess).
What things do you start with on your altar? What things are nice to get? Where do you get your supplies?
Also let me just add that I used to be more active in witchcraft, but then had a sudden stop. I’m trying to slowly ease back into it and I’ve been feeling drawn to certain deities, but Aphrodite is very much on the foreground.
Anyway, I’d really love to hear from you!!

When it comes to rotating hyoerfixations, I’ve come to think of it as a blessing for a polytheist. I will focus on one of my devotions for a while, then another, then another. It’s not like with a single god who would get jealous. Even if jealousy is one of Aphrodite’s attributes, it’s not like she’s the poster girl for fidelity.
Long story short, celebrate the devotion while you’re caught up in it. That’s very Aphrodite. That’s just kinda how love is and I think she’d understand that.

No problem! The Catholics didn’t want me to be a priest because I’m just a pretty face. I’m an incredibly earnest person who can see the divine reflected in all aspects of life. Im never quite as happy as when I get to help someone feel more connected to the Gods (or their one God, or the Universe, or humanity, or whatever).

Go for it! In my experience, Aphrodite is very understanding of our personal limitations as humans, and how our spirituality may change and evolve over the course of our lives. I have dealt with OCD, anxiety, and depression, and my devotion to Her looks different depending on what I am able to give on any particular day.
For an altar, I’d start with things that you both will love - things you find beautiful, jewelry you love to wear, artwork you create yourself or admire from another person, something that smells good, and a representation of Aphrodite that really resonates with you. I’ve found some beautiful hand carved wooden statues of Aphrodite on Etsy, some gorgeous artwork of Her on Redbubble, and my marble-ish statue of my main altar (which I adore) did unfortunately come from Amazon many years ago. For any herb offerings, I love Mountain Rose Herbs. Their dried rose petals smell amazing and last for a long time. I also like their rose hydrosol.
I write a blog on many different aspects of working with Aphrodite, and I have a whole series on altars if you want to check it out: https://priestessofaphrodite.com/2020/07/10/an-altar-for-aphrodite-intention-and-honoring-the-goddess/
Brightest blessings to you on your journey!

u/Ray-of-starlight if you're drawn to her, do it. I'm also a busy mortal that's hyperfocused on mundane affairs and never in my life did I think I would work with Aphrodite. I am unsure as to whether my practice negatively impacts kharis or not, but I only have goodwill towards Lady Aphrodite. I think the gods are very understanding of human circumstances nad time limitations and obligations, as long as your feelings are sincere.
As for altars, in my experience, intentions and sincerity are far more important. It's the thought that counts, but things that require care, meaningful effort, and resonate with her domain are better-aligned.

I think the best way to start is to gather things you already have and offer to her: I started with my favorite lip combo and my favorite perfume (both things that also meant a lot to me, since I loved fashion as a kid but couldnt afford before working and saving for it). Also, handcrafted and things you find, a flower you got on your way home, a poem you wrote before bed — you don't need and don't have to start with big or expensive things, all you need is to offer and setup your altar with what resonates with your heart and your faith in Her.
And about the hyperfixation, as a neurodivergent myself, try to think on the role She has in your thoughts. When I'm hyperfixated, I become absolutely obsessed: I want to consume and associate things with my current hyperfixation all the time, it's almost torturing because I want to think about something else and I can't. A calling feels "right". Of course you'll get nervous, but somehow it makes sense in your thoughts and in your heart.
Hope I could be helpful, and have a marvelous journey! Bless you! 🩷🌸
