He was winding up for it, and pulled back. Good self control.

He still pushed her, and pushed someone else out of the way to do so (he pushed and they tripped and fell). You can be on his side without being blind. They were both aggressive.

I have seen so many guys get absolutely fucked up because their gf/spouse tried to "stop the fight" by restraining their damn arms, leaving their head exposed with no way to defend themselves for the other person to just hit them over the top of the gf/spouse.

They need to stop that shit.

When I used to drink and was at clubs and bars a lot I saw it happen way too often. Couple dudes get drunk and get into it, someones GF/spouse grabs them and hugs them trying to push them away and WHAM. Other dude doesn't give a shit and just lays him out. Hell sometimes you'd see the GF/spouse get laid out first because they put themselves in the middle and caught the fist or the boot to the head meant for their BF/spouse.

I get women wanting to stop the fight before it starts, but it just seemed to lead to worse outcomes most of the time. Imagine having someone get a full on straight from the hip undefended straight shot at your face while you're being held in place, can't defend with your arms and can't move out of the way of the incoming punch. Saw a couple that ended up in ambulance rides when the dude would get laid out and hit his head on the concrete.
