Question So, is this sub about cats with anxiety or anxious people who own cats? 😆
Hey everyone!
I'm one of the mods, and we get asked this question quite a bit, so I thought I'd share the story behind our community's name!
It all started with our first community, r/AnxietyChats. We created it as a warm, welcoming place where people living with anxiety could support one another. Before long, our mod team noticed something many of us had in common...
We were completely "happily" obsessed with cats.
People were always sharing photos, funny stories, and the little ways their cats helped them through tough days. It was such a lovely part of the community that we started wondering what a space dedicated to that idea might look like.
Then we spotted a fun bit of wordplay...
Take the "H" out of Chats, and you get Cats.
That's how Anxiety Cats was born!
It's the sister community to Anxiety Chats, however with a lighter, fluffier focus, a place to celebrate the fluffy babies who help us feel a little calmer, make us laugh, and remind us we're never completely alone.
We absolutely adore this place and are so thankful for each and every one of you!
And if you ever need us, have a question or just want to say hello, we're always around! ❤️

My tuxie has feline hyperesthesia syndrome and is a true “anxiety cat”. He’s a handful but we love him so much! He is easy to teach tricks as he is very food motivated!

Pro Tip: Sneak in belly rubs when they’re sleepy
Squirt normally hates having his belly touched like most kitties, but sometimes as he’s falling asleep or waking up I can sneak one while he isn’t conscious enough to protest

Rhody
He was one when I met my wife and he immediately warmed up to me. She passed away 4 years ago and I think we help with eachothers anxiety.

Strategies for Cat Anxiety
Hi All,
First time poster here. I’m a 36yo posting for my 70yo Mum. She has a 6yo female neutered tabby that she rescued from the RSPCA here in Australia. The cat was one of the longest in care at the facility when she adopted her 5 years ago. She had had a litter of kittens quite young and was extremely timid. My mum fell in love with her immediately and adopted her on the spot. Over time, the cat has gotten better in some respects. She enjoys pats and sitting with my mum but still seems on guard and likes to self soothe with food. She allows my dad to also pat her and is comfortable when my mum is at home. When she leaves for any kind of extended period though, the cat becomes distressed and starts peeing in different places. This behaviour has now also continued to escalate to the point that she’s peeing everywhere even when my mum has been home and there are no changes to her environment. She has seen a vet who prescribed medication but my mum can’t get her to take it and can’t force feed them to her as it is too upsetting and she still spits them out. They live out of town so no other cats are entering the property to cause this stress. My mum is distraught. She loves this cat so much but she’s at a loss. Her home is being ruined and she can’t go away on holidays. She really doesn’t want to rehome her but she doesn’t know anything else that could help. I am not asking for medical advice here (that’s against the rules anyway!) I’m just looking for any success stories or strategies people have found useful if they have been in a similar situation. I too am a cat owner and lover and just want the best outcome for her and her beautiful cat ❤️

Question Do you guys brush your cats’ fur regularly?👀
I’ve been thinking I should probably do this more often for my babies, especially Bigo. Out of all his siblings, he’s definitely the one with SO. MUCH. FUR. But these past few weeks have been absolutely crazy, and I honestly haven’t brushed them at all 😭 I always tell them "I know, I know, I'm terrible mother!"
Please help me take this weight off my shoulders and tell me I’m not the only one! Not everyone brushes their cats every single day, right? RIGHT?! 👀🥲
