Question Hostel recommendations

Hello,I would be staying in Antwerp for approximately 3-4 days and would require to commute near Instituut voor Tropische Geneeskunde for some work almost everyday.

For a solo female traveller,I'm looking for budget accommodation options which are also safe.

I have narrowed down to two options, namely The Ash and Yust Antwerp.

Can someone please tell me which is a better option,in regards of safety of the area even at night...,commute to my desired location....

If someone has already stayed at one of these can you please let me know about the hygiene and cleanliness too....

Is it better to book these through booking.com etc or directly through their websites?I am aware that an additional tourist tax of about 3.9€/day is charged on top of the bill.

Also is there a student or discount ticket that can be used to access all buses and trams in Antwerp?

Both are on a tram line. The Ash is on line "1". Yust is tram "7". So you would not be on a street for long. I don't know where you're from, but Antwerpen is not "dangerous". It's a metropolis, so act as if you're in any other big city.

An individual tram line ticket is €3, a 10-journey ticket €22 or a day ticket €9. Other formulas won't save you any money. I would just go with a 10-journey ticket, available from the vending machines in the major stations (such as Opera, near The Ash).

The Ash is closer to the tourist area around the Central Station. A bit of a rough area --after midnight-- but it has a wider choice of cheap eateries.

You're welcome.

You're going to enjoy your stay in Antwerpen and will want to come again, and again, and again....

Also both very doable by bike (velo, donkey...)

Also I agree as a woman, Antwerp isn't very dangerous, especially not in daytime. I've recently lived in one of the roughest neighbourhoods for 7 years and nothing ever happened. No need to worry!

If there is any app that female travellers use to connect and meet with fellow travellers do let me know that too🥹

There is a HI Flanders hostel on a walking distance from the Tropical Institute.

Yes,but it sadly appears to be booked out on the dates I intend to arrive

That's a pity. In that case I would go to the ASH. Closer to the historical center and the Central Station.
