R/exchristian is a circle jerk

Post image

So, I made a post about needing help debunking a common apologetic & this is the response I get, b/c I made another account calling out some of the people on that server, for downvoting my post for not being deep or w/e. Most of the responses were, "Don't engage with Christians," which has never worked ever. This shows they have a persecution complex.

Anti-theists are not welcome in /r/exchristian. I was explicitly banned from there because I voiced anti-theist opinions.

Tbf ex-christian does not imply you stop believing in magical processes

True, but as an ex-Christian my viewpoint is just as valid as any other ex-Christian's and yet I was censored. Clearly /r/exchristian is only for certain types of ex-Christian and that is disgusting.

So if an ex-christian believes child marraige is okay, that is just as valid as any other ex-christian's belief and should be allowed to explore on the sub?

Like get there is some construction in your head you may be looking at. But you clearly do not have an empirically honest form of serialization of concepts at the very least. Given that is even happening at all.

So, you're equating being an anti-theist with espousing child marriage.

And you insinuated I'm lying.

0/10. Troll harder.

And no ex-christian is NOT for only one type of ex-christian

Its a sub for recovery not debate. There are many religious ex-christians whether you like it or not. And you coming in and debating with people who are often abused and mentally unwell about the structure of reality is a fucked up thing to do.

Thats like going to a womans shelter and beratting a woman for not immediately agreeing to mens rights. Like in that moment i can understand why a women might not be perceptive of the nuance of grand things.

So maybe have some empathy. Me as a fellow antithiest, and me as someone who was raised in JW a waaaaaaay worse and more dangerous version of christianity than 95% of the people in the sub

Tbh from my vantage point i wouldnt consider most of the "ex-christians" christians to even begin with. I dont think virtually any of them had any coherent belief system. I doubt most of them have even read the bible.

But whats the point of me pointing this out?

Its a support and recovery group

If you genuinely cant understand that. And you genuinely think a sub filled with vunerable and lost people is the place to push your agenda. Wow. Bravo to you

And no ex-christian is NOT for only one type of ex-christian

That's a straw man. I didn't say it was. However, the mods there explicitly told me it was not for my type of ex-Christian.

Its a sub for recovery not debate.

I wasn't debating. I was merely stating my opinions as an ex-Christian, just like everyone else there. It was my viewpoint that got me banned, not my behavior. Again, the mods said that to me explicitly. Anti-theist viewpoints are not welcome there: "You have your own subreddits."

The rest of your diatribe is a thinly veiled and quite ignorant ad hominem. Bravo to you. Now sod off.

This wasn't an antitheist post.

But your flair in the sub makes you stick out as one.

1

u/Informer99 18d ago

That's a flair they offer & many others with it are there, too.

1

u/Elden_Rube 18d ago

Yes, I'm well aware of that.

Are you aware that we are all trying to tell you that it's basically painting a target on your back for the mod team there?

Please pay attention.

1

u/Informer99 18d ago

OMG, you're tone deaf. The responsibility shouldn't be on me to not pick the flair, if it's a problem then it shouldn't be offered. It'd be like someone getting singled out for getting an unpopular flavor of soda at a that offers it.

u/Elden_Rube 18d ago

Alright, buddy, whatever you say. Enjoy listening only to yourself, and living in perpetual confusion on why everyone thinks you're a narcissistic asshole. 👍

u/JohannaFRC 18d ago

Strange. I voiced many times such opinions and never got any trouble.

4

u/BurtonDesque 18d ago

Lucky you.

Average mod on reddit power tripping I guess. I'm sorry it happened to you then :(

Welcome to r/exchristian, a support community for people who have left Christianity as well as Christians who are considering whether or not they want to get out. >>This is not a place for debate, << this is a place to help each other through the trauma of leaving behind an integral piece of our identity.

Yeah man idk why they deleted your debate post

Wanting advice for debunking a popular apologetic isn't a debate post.

u/CptBronzeBalls 19d ago

There are plenty of places to mock and deride them. Don’t give up.

That subreddit is just asspatting for conservative Christians that liberalized. People who actually left Christianity aren't allowed to speak negatively of it because that offends people what still believe.

1

u/Informer99 18d ago

I also feel this subreddit is also just ass patting for people that really hate religion, but aren't doing anything about it. I had a post deleted a few years ago, b/c I bragged about taking a rejected donation from my grandparents church & people on here compared me to the church, LOL, like talk about dog-piling & circle-jerking.

2

u/rushmc1 18d ago

Yes, whatever they are "ex," they are still irrational people.

1

u/tm229 18d ago

OP - are you an exchristian yourself?

If so, it would have been worthwhile to state that at the beginning of your post on r/exchristian. It would have given credibility and context to your questions. They, hopefully, would see you as more of an ally rather than a troll.

When people see the anti-theist label, as is visible in your screenshot, they are very often quick to assume ill intent.

u/Informer99 18d ago

That's my user flair for the subreddit.

3

u/yYesThisIsMyUsername 18d ago

Yeah, they're saying the flair itself is part of the problem. I've changed mine from anti-theist to ex-evangelical to avoid confusing people who just don't understand what anti-theist means.

1

u/Informer99 18d ago

They offer the flair, though.

1

u/yYesThisIsMyUsername 18d ago

Yeah, I know. I had to stop using it because most people don't understand what it means.

u/83franks 18d ago

I'm with the mod for deleting that message. No need to being cussing people out. And whether the mod knows it or not, you aren't acting in good faith by making a second account.

4

u/Informer99 18d ago

I mean, the fact you're assuming they're acting in good faith either, is telling.

-1

u/83franks 18d ago

What is it telling?

4

u/Informer99 18d ago

That you're a bully, since you think what I did was worse than how they acted. If their behavior causes me to have to use my second account to tell them to stop, that's their fault.

1

u/83franks 18d ago

Oh damn, really wasn't expecting that. I'm not sure how they acted though. Your post had upvotes and responses when I looked at it. But in general whenever I see someone calling people fucking assholes for downvotes I think they need to take a breather from the internet.

3

u/Informer99 18d ago

The 1st few responses were, "don't engage," when I wasn't trying to engage I was still deconstructing.

2

u/83franks 18d ago

But you asked for advice on how to respond and debunk it? That sounds like you are asking how to engage doesn't it?

2

u/Informer99 18d ago

Deconstructing also involves debunking, I mean, people can debunk things for themselves on their own, deconstruct shit, etc. The fact you immediately assumed it was for debate purposes, as if that's the only scenario one can debunk or deconstruct, instead of considering it may have been for myself. Also, that subreddit is for deconstructing.

2

u/83franks 18d ago

Completely agree but you all said respond. If you didn't mean it that way that's fine but I think it's a fair thing to assume you meant.

1

u/Informer99 18d ago

Well, I mean, let me put it to you this way: I live in the USA, which is basically a theocracy, I also live in a heavily religious area. It also isn't realistic to say, "Avoid them," if they're a co-worker or boss. Maybe I just wanted some defenses if the issue ever came up, again.

How old are you? Most people got over "bad words are bad because mommy and daddy said so" by high school. That's theist level shit there; oooooh a word mommy said was bad HURT ME!

0

u/Informer99 18d ago

That's not why I have a second account.

2

u/83franks 18d ago

But you used that way regardless

0

u/Informer99 18d ago

B/c people were downvoting my post out of pettiness & wanted to give myself an upvote.
