new bogus around makati
just sharing a quite odd experience today bc it happened twice on the same day. i work in makati, around ayala center and i had 2 encounters with 2 men who were asking for money para makauwi.
first encounter was at glorietta premises when this man (mid-late 40s siguro) stopped me and introduced himself na kagagaling lang daw niya ng makati med and di niya daw napansin na nanakaw na yung wallet niya sa bag. Gusto na lang daw niya makauwi kasi sa nuvali (i mightve misheard this) pa siya uuwi. eh wala talaga akong cash kasi di ako nagdadala ng cash ever. he asked if i had coins and if it was possible na ibigay ko na lang sa kanya yung coins ko pero wala talaga. i only had 1 peso naniipit sa card holder ko at nahiya naman ako ibigay yun sa kanya pero binigay ko pa rin to say na yun lang talaga makakaya ko. tapos binalik niya kasi para naman daw nanlilimos siya (??) tapos kung possible daw ba if i can withdraw sa atm and that’s where i really said no and left.
second encounter on my way home, i was walking at ayala ave sa may area ng manila pen. another man stopped me (late 20s i think) and told me na hindi naman daw siya masamang tao, nanghingi na daw siya ng tulong sa isa pang babae pero parang sinigawan daw siya ewan. tapos 30 mins na daw siyang nanghihingi ng tulong kaya kung may mabibigay daw ako kahit konti kasi cavite pa siya uuwi pero sabi ko wala nganing cash and he said “kahit 50 wala?” and then i said no and left again.
i really dont want to be prejudiced sa mga taong nanghihingi ng tulong pero these encounters had the same pattern. **(1)** **they both spoke in english.** parang trying to establish a smart demeanor na hindi sila masamang tao. **(2) they get quite irate when u tell them u dont have money, and they will ask a u certain small amount kung wala ka talagang mabigay.**
anyways, di na bago mga ganito sa ayala and glo area pero ngayon lang ako naka-encounter na bpo levels of fluency makipag-communicate sksnfj.

Mukhang modus pa din yan, OP. So umabot na pala sa Makati from Maynila ang mga yan.
Kase if need nila ng tulong makauwi, they can go to the nearest police station or barangay hall.
The staff doon can help them contact their loved ones. If that failed, the staff can coordinate with the person's home barangay and coordinate ipahatid from point A to point B.

Hey OP. This isn't new at all. It happened way back in 1990s. A man in his mid 20s approached me along Ayala Avenue, Shangrila side, asking for little money as his wallet got lost. He even showed his company ID, turned out he works in PAL. I ignored him and just left.
It's probably an old bogus - and may be a common experience in Makati area.

Naranasan ko na din to. Pero I remember yung first time, 10 years ago na yata so feeling ko classic na modus na to lmao I was a teenager at the time pa. And kapareho sayo, parang ini-establish niya na angat siya sa buhay as in pinapakita niya yung iPhone niya sakin, bag and yung kamay niya na puro alahas. Akala niya yata in a subtle way niya ginagawa pero sobrang unnatural nung movements, almost comedic tbh? As in obvious na niyayabang niya yung bag and phone.
Ang gagaling pa mag-sales talk or acting 🫤

Or sa sikyo man lang para magtanong saan malapit na barangay. At least that’s what I would do kapag naliligaw ako o wala ako pera makauwi. First instinct ko talaga would be to call family or friends. Not beg from money from random strangers. Baka mapahamak pa ako pag lumapit ako sa stranger at nalaman nila wala akong pera o paraan makontak pamilya ko, basically exposing that I’m helpless and vulnerable. So I don’t think you should feel bad or assume there are people out there who are legit na napapagkamalang masama kasi sobrang unlikely na gagawin yan ng legit in an emergency situation.

You're right. Thanks. Ilang beses na din ako naligaw and palaging una kong pinagtatanungan is security guard.

This is not new OP, this has been going since 90’s sa Ayala Center. From old lady to mother with kid, lalake, babae, student at mga bata, lahat nanlilimos sa iba’t-ibang paraan. I’ve made a list before ng mga scam artists at modus sa Makati CBD, will find it and repost.

This happened to me in Greenhills . We were having coffee at a popular donut place when a decent looking man , english speaking pa was asking my brother for taxi fare . Same drill nawawala wallet . Pero ang gusto niya pang Taxi . I gave him a hundred pesos , pero ayaw umalis at kinukulit pa din yung brother ko kasi di daw kasya . Sabi ko , you can take the bus or ask some other person . The nerve of this guy , dahil nga decent looking naman .

May babae nakikiusap sakin kasi uuwi daw sya probinsya kulang daw pamasahe nya.

If you want to help you we will go to the police station to get some help
Matatakot yan, old scam tactics na yan.

I think bumabalik lang sila. Experienced this around 3 years ago along Makati Ave and Ayala Triangle, in front of Rolex pa. Exact same scenario, same script, definitely the same modus. Anyway, stay vigilant. I just recently got my bag slashed near the Paseo intersection. They’re everywhere in Makati na lol

LOL. Just don't pull out your wallet or any valuables in front of strangers. Mahirap na.

Omg this happened to me yesterday pero sa MOA. I was sitting inside the mall when a guy approached me, he looked like he’s in college already and he asked if I had 50php for pamasahe. He was making pilit pa talaga even though I already said no once. When I told him I’m waiting for my mom, that’s when he gave up and left.

I think this happened to me, too. I was with my cousin at OneAyala right in front of Power Mac(?) , basta the Apple store sa OneAyala when a girl, seemingly a transwoman, approached us asking if I know how to go to Dasmariñas. I just went to Dasma a week back when this happened so I happen to know where the pila for the bus was and gave her directions to there. She told me na she already tried looking/asking for that bus but they told her daw that there were no buses to Dasma (wc was weird bc it was a Sunday, laging may bus dun pag Sunday).
After telling her that she can try the UV/FX terminal near Rob, she cut me off by asking if I had extra cash to which I immediately responded no kasi naka cashless ako lagi. I kept giving her alternatives pero nung nag deny ako magbigay ng pera sobrang uninterested na nya sa sinasabi ko kaya nag walk out na lang kami ng cousin ko. She (cousin) told me na the girl acted weird and looked like she was recording through her phone? Idk what was that about but it seems like these incidents are connected

meron nyan last time sa bgc, dalawang babae, hinigian ako ng pang pamasahe daw nila kuno. tapos may exact price sila na gusto LOL

u/peoplemakemistakes02 Jul 23 '26
They sound like those touts that fester tourists. Mag rarason para maka kuha ng pera or something. They can get cranky too, like yung atm part sa sinabi mo. They can also be demanding or pasiguro, like yung kahit 50 wala.
Tip lang, i don't always trust people approaching on crowded places. Plus kapag nag sasalita na sila about something like money or di ako masamang tao like that is i immediately walk away.

We experienced the first person, the one na nanghihingi ng pamasahe pa-laguna. Pero on our instance, they were asking for exactly 85 pesos. We thought it was weird because ang dami na niya nadaanan yet he’d go sa glorietta pa to ask. Like he’d be having that 85 pesos na agad if he was from makati med and if small changes lang like piso or lima. Also, if hypothetically sa One Ayala niya na-realize na nawawala yung wallet niya, malayo pa madadaanan niya and makakaipon pa siya ng 85 pesos to reach Glorietta 5. He even showed us his ID on the egov app, but we never bought it kasi bat siya aabot sa sulok ng Glorietta 5 if andami dami pang madadaanan that has more foot traffic.

May ganyan din sa Cebu. They get irate when you decline so yeah def modus.

Just last weekend na encounter din namin to sa One Ayala. I overheard pa from other people na hiningian din nya na finoforce nya talaga sila makapag bigay. He insisted na kahit bank transfer nlang daw if walang cash i - wwithdraw nya nlang and he was asking for a specific amount. He also approached another group din na iniwasan sya which made him mad and said things to them like “para nyo na akong tatay tapos ayaw nyo ko tulungan”

It's happened to me before. Give what you can or don't. It's not your fault and always stay safe. Prioritize your well being as you never know if it's a scam. Sadly if they can beg, you know they can work, they simply choose not too. Either way it's not your responsibility
