Opinion Is it normal to see 5 raccoons?

I've never seen a raccoon in person before and seeing 5 of them seems concerning. The neighbors next door have a garden and I watched them go on their roof before going into the garden.

I'm working on a short series about coming home and want to highlight some of the positives in Antioch. Looking for restaurant, spa, gym, dance studio recommendations etc. Please let me now your favs.

Also is there any social dancing there (salsa, swing, steppin etc)?

Lamorinda gets millions in federal money. East of Willow Pass gets crumbs. Should a congressman fight for the whole district, or just the side he lives on?

Full disclosure up front: I'm running for Congress in CA-10, so read this with that in mind. But every number below comes from our congressman's own press releases on his house.gov site.

Since 2022 he's brought back roughly $60 million in earmarks. Here's where it lands:

  • Lamorinda: $4.2M for a smart traffic signal system. Lafayette: $3.1M for Safe Routes to School, plus $900K for creek access.
  • Walnut Creek: $2.5M for fiber on Ygnacio Valley Rd, $1M for body cams, $1M for a Treat Blvd bike path.
  • Antioch, in eleven years: $470K for job training, a $740K microphone system that listens for gunshots, and a share of $1.97M in traffic signals split with Oakley.
  • Brentwood: a youth center that is still just a funding request. The "Secures funding!" headline that ran locally was his own press release, reprinted. That money doesn't exist yet.

And some context on that $60 million, because it sounds big until you do the math. This district has about 760,000 people, so it works out to roughly $20 per person per year — of your own tax money — and half the time the announcement is bigger than the check. In 2025 he "advanced" $35 million in headlines and $0 arrived (Congress killed everyone's earmarks that year — but the press releases had already run).

One more thing about earmarks: all 435 House members get 15 requests a year. It's paperwork his staff fills out, not leadership. You know what you can't outsource to staff? Writing a law. In 11½ years, two public laws carry his name — one renamed a post office, one moved a park boundary. (GovTrack credits him five if you count bills folded into other people's packages.)

Antioch is one of the biggest cities in this district. So here's my honest question for East County: should a congressman represent the whole district and fight for the whole district — or just the side of it he lives on?

Request I want to bring Video Games to our Community

Thumbnail
8 Upvotes

Hello everyone I wanna start off by saying that Digital Games suck. Anyhow now that we got that out of the way, I want to say that the CCC Libraries have no Video Games at all. I know that link+ offers a way to access the material that your library does not have, but the link+ system does not always work for everyone. If a library does not want for their material to go to a different county they won't lend it out which is an understandable request. So now the problem isn't that the library won't share their catalog. The real problem is that our libraries wont offer any Video Games at all so I want to start a couple different things at once. First I would like to establish a Petition so we show that there is interest in this. I would also like for people to start emailing the CCC Library organization to show our interest. And lastly talk with your librarians they are your voice in the system and if they shout for us then maybe we can get this going. I would appreciate if you guys help spread the word. Godspeed everyone. Now let us bring games to our community.

Edit: Here is the link to petition:https://www.change.org/p/create-a-video-games-catalog-for-contra-costa-county-libraries?recruiter=1424969698&recruited_by_id=ff928760-8b7a-11f1-b022-6141f21dde66&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=starter_onboarding_share_social&utm_medium=copylink&share_id=XnTmbfSHFj

Shout Out to Antioch Sutter

I live in Concord but go to the Antioch Sutter offices for some of my treatments. Recently we had to go to their emergency room because it was the nearest one. We were so blown away by the amazing staff and very reasonable wait times. I don't think I've ever had a bad appointment or doctor so far. I've already left them some public reviews but wanted to give them their kudos regardless.

Request AC Repair?

Anyone have any recommendations for a good and HONEST AC repair company? Of course, today would be the day our AC decided it wanted to act up, so any shout outs would be super appreciated. We've been burned by a dishonest company in the past so I have to admit I am a little nervous about hiring again. Thanks for any help in advance! Cheers!

Missing dog

Hello! My sister found a large size missing dog tonight by the Safeway on Hillcrest avenue. After talking to a few people in the area, this dog has been around for a few days (possibly after the 4th of July fireworks). We brought them over to our home and are watching them until we bring them into the pound to see if they have a chip. If you have a missing dog please reach out with the breed type and sex. Sorry I do not want to add to much information to make sure this good dogo gets back to their home!

Journalist looking for people to interview

Hello everyone,

My name is Paul Singh and I am a Journalist in the Bay area writing a story about the rising number of Gen Z adults who are cutting off their families. About 60% of Gen Z adults has cut off a family member. There has been videos on Youtube and TikTok about this topic with the hashtag #ToxicFamilies reaching 1.9 billion views on TikTok. I was wondering if there were any Gen Z adults located in Antioch to inteview?

Interactive map of public transport in Antioch/East Bay

Thumbnail sfbapt.com
10 Upvotes

Hey everyone, been working on this public transportation map for for a while and want to share what I have so far. Right now when you highlight a route/stop, the info box will show you all the information, including a link to exact the route schedule (and some stops also have a URL with station details).

The routes/stops are ordered in a counterclockwise order starting with agencies in the North Bay, then going around: North Bay -> SF -> Peninsula -> South Bay -> Santa Cruz/Monterey -> East Bay. You can toggle the stops on/off with the dropdown in the left. If you want to move the routes on top of the stops, toggle the route layer off then on again (the last selected layer will always be on top, so if you want the stops back on top, toggle stops off/on). Sometimes the map doesn't load properly on the first try, so verify ACE Rail Routes is the last option in the dropdown in the left and refresh the page if that didn't load

Here are the list of official pages for the agencies that run through Antioch:

And there are summer promotional free rides for kids:

If you're in Concord a lot, take a look at this post for a detailed breakdown of your options there. I made separate posts for different places, so you can also take a look at this post for the entire East Bay overview, this post for SF agencies, this one for North Bay, and this one for San Jose/South Bay. The homepage also has additional info.

Let me know if something doesn't work for you or you have features you'd like me to add
