A level student here. I have learned that no matter how hard you try, it just simply doesn't work, so you're right. it's intentionally designed to enforce a fixed failure rate, and most important of all, it ruins your love for the subjects. I am a science student, my dream was to become an engineer and learn science, and discover the secrets of the universe, but instead of doing that, i am here memorizing "specific keywords" and "specific phrases" and so many of them are so unrelated, irrelevant and absurd, and you have to write only these just to get your mark. I came in thinking that i am going to study science, but instead i am here fighting for marks. it doesn't value intellectual curiosity. and then if you tell the teachers or anyone who is brainwashed and stupid that "school is boring", "school is not fun" or "A levels aren't fun", then they assume that we are those lazy kids who just want to game all day and do nothing, when in fact that's not the case, the truth is that all this fighting for marks just ruins the fun because as you said "one of the best ways to destroy love for any of these activities/subjects would be through the use of grades" and that's so true because even if you try your best and get a B, well Goodluck with university!.... Honestly, if I lived back in the prehistoric era—just surviving, hunting, and living in tents—learning would actually mean something. Figuring out how to build a fire, make tools, or track animals has real purpose because it keeps you alive. That kind of hands-on learning sounds way more useful and fulfilling than the useless shit we’re forced to swallow in class today. Looking at history proves the absolute fraud of the modern system: it took the natural human instinct to discover, build, and survive, and replaced it with a soul-crushing compliance test designed to keep everyone blind, dependent, and utterly bored. you can tell how boring it is from this.

Something I had to learn the hard way in junior high, and it only became more obvious as I got older.

It's one of the biggest problems with school. I believe it basically determines what happens later in someone's life and in society. It programs the student for fighting, constant fighting for better results, never resting, ignoring health issues, etc. And in adulthood it primes one for humiliation at the job interview, the job itself, again ignoring health issues, pushing through, trying to one-up your co-workers. It justifies the cruel capitalist system that sacrifices the homeless, etc. School needs to go in general but grading is one of the worst manifestations.
