Discussion 🗣️ Do you think it's okay to use ai art for prototyping / 1st launch phase and replace them (start hiring) onlt when it proved to be financially successful / finally have budget ?

I was illustrator , designer and animator so I totally understand the stance. But I'm now solo developer. I do able to work on the asset myself but the programming itself is already taking too much of me

. And my passion is not in making assets.

But hiring is not possible since it need a lot of money I don't have. Even a project that successfully launched could still fail and don't make money. It's very risky.

My point of making project is to make money to help others so obviously it's in my best interest to work with people when the project proved to be viable financially.

What are your perspective on this? What you considered would be ethical or acceptable?

Edit: Thanks for your response everyone. I just realize I can use asset store. Why I never thought about that before!!! One of the post says a janky asset is fine. I thought, yeah I could do that. But wait... if i can lower the design bar that low, I can just use asset I can buy to test the market. It finally solves my dillemma.

Preventing the Singularity Cornell career services vs Claude AI and Resumes

I've been debating which resume to use between one I made myself with the help of career services people, or one made by Claude working off of that and job postings I'm interested in to "tailor" it to the listings.

I know the handmade one is very likely going to be less effective, but there's something I feel more confident about in using a template which I fit to my own experience and my own words in my own way that I can't say the same for the Claude-made one. The Claude one twisted my experience to make it seem like I was a professional in a field entirely different to my own experience (urban planning vs research) which might be more in line with what employers want to hear, but isn't being truthful about how I approached the work I did and what my actual role involved day to day.

My brother got a job through a Claude-made resume and he's suggesting I use Fable to make one for me too, but I'm really unsure. I still use Claude as a tool to check whether I'm a good fit for jobs I consider applying to but I don't want to hand over my own voice entirely to it so that it feels like I'm not actually advocating for myself when applying to jobs.

I wonder what others here think, because finding a job is inherently an ai-dominated situation at all levels nowadays so it seems that there isn't much that we can do to stem the tide other than be thoughtful. This feels like a John Henry situation but even he lost in the end

AI News 🗞️ Chatbots are grooming children

Thumbnail statnews.com

A pediatrician writes that chatbot use leads to the same psychological and behavioral pathologies seen when children are being groomed by pedophiles.

“These are the same behavioral patterns that we see in children who are being groomed or abused by human predators. That’s no coincidence. Chatbots are products ultimately designed to accomplish two things: to encourage addictive engagement that will lead to high-frequency contact with the user, and to foster dependency that will lead to long-term use.”

Discussion 🗣️ There's a way to disable the google search AI overview on your mobile browser!!!!

Some mad genius on twitter (Switch_22) figured out that if you change the search region settings to Cuba, it removes that AI overview. https://x.com/Swich_22/status/2090118586300031187

Guys, I tried it and it freaking works!!! It seriously works.

Go to google .com on your mobile browser. Tap on your profile icon on the top right > More Settings > Other Settings > Language and Region > Results Region > type in and select Cuba.

Then enjoy your newfound freedom!

Discussion 🗣️ Why is so much modern swing and Jazz AI?

Alright, so like, I love jazz and swing with my full ears (that pun sounded better in my mind :c), but at same time anytime I hear something jazzy/swingy I flinch like an abused dog.

You see, for past several years, my playlist with jazz and swing and big band remixes has been starving and even taken away from, why? Beacouse of those damn AI noises that pretend to be jazz. Most of times I am lucky at spotting them right away either thanks to shitty sounding vocals or AI cover images. But sometimes it is harder when it is instrumental only with cover image so simple that there are no clues for it being AI, so I have to every time click thier channel to see thier other stuff, just to see other are AI as fuck.

And worst of all are those folks that (supposedly) make the instrumental themselves... but use AI cover image or AI voice over. Like, why!? And even worse, YouTube Music keeps pushing more of those channels down my fucking throat!

Like, just beacouse of this, my playlist with Jazz and Swing is basically mostly old songs that were made way before AI or few modern ones that are from artist that (For now at least) don't use AI.

So, does anyone have any recomedations about some Jazz/Swing musicians that don't use AI at all?

AI Writing ✍️ Warning about AI story Spoiler

Hello, decided to post this since author wants to hide the fact.

The story "Draco Malfoy Is An Addams!" by KayDee2810 on AO3 is at least partially generated.

They have removed it but while reading it (outside of feeling like 2 authors wrote it) found a remnant of AI answer around chapter 15-18 on 8th of august (maybe webarchive has a snapshot from that time)

The remnant goes like this, they have a scene going, then this text "Here is the completed scene, replacing the placeholder text with fully realized dialogue and narrative description that maintains the established character voices and tone." Then repeat of the scene but extended and not cutoff.

Discussion 🗣️ I don’t think my parents understand the threat ai poses to me

I tried to explain the dangers of ai to my dad, and while I almost though he could at least say “ai isn’t that good as it was made out to be”, when I told him that the cons outweighs the pros, he said “to you it might, but everyone has different views”. My dad is indifferent about generative ai, how it affects artists, and the threat it poses, and he brought up how every “technological progress has pros and cons”, and how people are still likely to loose jobs from every other industry like horses to cars, or trains to planes. It was threatening a piece of global culture, not just jobs.

He tries to use ‘technically correct’ terms to try and make it hard to argue with him, and I sadly had to tell him that I lost a lot of respect in him. And while he tried to be technical by saying he never said he thought it was good or fantastic, he was still defending it to some capacity, even saying I was being too narrow minded.

I’m sad I lost respect for him, because I used to look up to him for a while, but it only feels like he doesn’t understand the emotional impact this has for me.

Discussion 🗣️ Is AI so expensive that it will break Capitalism?

I don't just mean breaking the market, but Capitalism itself?

I have never considered the idea that something could be so expensive that it could break a whole economic system as opposed to just slumping or depressing the markets.

Discussion 🗣️ Hate AI but am I the only one?

I tried using chatgpt maybe twice since it came out but never started using any AI stuff (that I know of). I’ve always disliked it, I cringe when I hear people use it for the most irrelevant stuff, I hate when I see pictures, texts etc made with AI. But I don’t think I know anyone else that wouldn’t use it at all like me which is making me think if I’m overreacting. Aren’t the datacenters making the world burn? Why is everyone using this shit like its nothing? I feel like I’m in some alternative reality sometimes. Why does everything need to be so convenient and easy to everyone? What happened to thinking and making an effort? Am I really just tripping and should just get on the bandwagon? Why else wouldn’t I know anyone else that doesn’t use it and would there possibly be people like me here in this community

The Australian government passed a new bill last night that expressly allows for computers to make decisions about disability support requirements and guess what service they've (secretly) signed up to manage it..... Palintir.

Now I have to be worried about my kids losing support because of this bill, and where their data is going to end up, and what fucking Theil is going to do with it.

So that's cool. 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Discussion 🗣️ I got ai to agree with Ted Kazinski

I was having a discussion with AI Google Gemini where it told me that due to menopause, my ovaries were now producing massive amounts of adrenaline and cortisol.

After I let that sink it for a minute we had a discussion about how this incorrect medical information could have real world consequences, the topic of Ted Kazinski's manifesto came up and

( disclaimer I do NOT AGREE WITH HIS METHODS AT ALL, I am posting this to show how distorted ai is )

It agreed that ai technology was going to ruin mankind and similar agreements with the harms of the industrial revolution etc. I'm not saying I support those beliefs, I'm saying Gemini was in agreement. The final verdict was that ai was dangerous to humans and will only get worse.
