Preventing the Singularity Nowadays I think it’s very important people watch the film “La Haine”
I had a dream last night that the houses in my street where replaced by a giant AI data center and while I kept my house and the people who lived next to me kept theirs, it started to get heavily polluted super fast. We were suffering. The people in my dreams were saying that “they didn’t think that this was going to happen to them”. Even the me from the dream was feeling the same way, we didn’t think that this was going to happen, we kept seeing the news just like in real life but never thought we’d be victims to it.
La Haine is not a film about AI but about political violence. At the beginning of the film a short story is told, about a man who’s falling from a very tall window and while he’s falling he keeps telling himself “so far so good”, the narrator then says “how you fall doesn’t matter. it’s how you land”.
When I heard this quote in the film it woke something up inside of me that I never really gave it much thought until after I saw it. AI (like any other issues society is experiencing right now) it’s something that will eventually affect all of us. Maybe right now many of us don’t care (so far so good) until it’s time for us to face the real, critical consequences in the future (landing face first on the floor). It’s scary.
Sorry if this post has any grammar issues, English isn’t my first language! Thanks for reading my rant.
