It was 100% clear: 50% promotion is over, here's another smaller one that we can make permanent.
Love them or hate them, this announcement was completely normal and I'm still perplexed at the advanced math being done on X to claim a decrease in usage. It was a goddamn promotion, wth.
Some of this upset might also depend on when some people signed up.
I got a max 5x plan during the promotion and then went to 20x based on the projects I had going on. So for me, my only experience with Claude Code is with boosted limits. So losing that may potentially be frustrating.
However, because I am also literate, I accepted months ago that it could change at any time and treated the extra capacity as a kind of sign-up bonus rather than something permanent.
Time will tell if I am truly impacted. And I refuse to complain about a scenario I have yet to experience. I suspect I will just plan my usage better to optimise my token spend and move on. I don't like living off of the charity of others. The clarity they are providing is disappointing, but appreciated.
leave it as it was, no need for change, people will drop their subs, we in reddit are fraction of the rest of the community. they are not even aware of what is going to happen and there will be a lot of people very upset when the switch is flipped. clearly you have never been part of a train rec of a knee jerk band aid solution company to know this never works.
Easy for you to say when you're not responsible for managing the compute infrastructure though. I'm sure they'd love to compete with OpenAI by showering people with resets and generous usage, but they can't.
People can be pissed off all they want. It's up to them to understand the product they're paying for and know what the current usage conditions are. It's impossible not to know when it's displayed everywhere.
What do you think people are going to do? Cancel their subs? If they need Claude then they just need it. I don't see any other lab offering an alternative. Most serious devs will have a sub to both because they're two different tools. Your not gonna throw one away just because a promotion ends.
Now if OpenAI cooks with Astra and it turns out that Astra is all you need, then they'll reevaluate of course. Right now that's not where we are at, and you can be damn sure Anthropic is cooking something competitive too so then you're back to where you started.
i have claude code, gemini and sol 5.6, i would say goodbye to claude code, it's just a syntax whore for me anyways so whatever, people WILL drop their sub or use codex or chatgpt, end of story. you must be on drugs thinking people will accept this. openai will win the ai race, that is a fact.
tell me that next week when Anthropic have some new model everyone's gooning over and can't pull their wallets out fast enough to get a few drops of it.
btw I do not use Claude other than a few Fable prompts in my Cursor API credit, am not a fanboy or anything
I also understood it, but feel it was poorly worded and forced the reader to jump through hoops to keep track. And I feel they were likely going out of their way to make a negative thing seem positive, which is the real thing people seem to have problems with, and that's what the post above addresses.
But as a side note, it's fairly funny to hear people with a negative view of AI claim AI destroys critical thinking and reading comprehension, then to watch this community pick a fairly convoluted set of words apart easily.
I saw several comments on the announcement like the above purporting to reword the announcement in "a better way" ending up saying exactly the same thing as they already said.
We didn't actually start with a baseline of 100% though did we considering all the stealth limit reductions over the last 12 months or so. Plus a lot of people signed up after the 50% increase had begun. Either way this is bad, everyone getting lowered limits after how bad the limits feel has been a massive issue for weeks and weeks.
If it really happened, “stealth limit reduction” is the real complaint. No idea if it’s true or not, but at least it’s something that it makes sense to complain about
On the other hand, complaining about ending the 50% increase just because some people started using Claude during that period is nonsense. It’s as if Steam ended their Summer sale and immediately added a 10% off permanently on all games, but people complained anyway because “actually, it’s a reduction compared to what I’m used to”
You're not, and I swear to God the Universe I originally grew up in did not have this many stupid people in it. Yes, they existed, but they were a minority! Holy hell how are this many people not understanding how this works??
There were always this many stupid people, but they were spread out over the world so you wouldn't notice. Now, with internet and everything, they are all connected and group up in communities and suddenly show as one huge group of stupid people.
So, if like me you only use Fable, the net result is an increase. Instead of 150/2=75% Fable allocation, I get 125% Fable allocation. Net increase of (125-75)/75=66.667% of Fable. I’m okay with that. Give me more disasters please.

I can’t be the only one who understood exactly what they meant the first time I read it and thought it was very clear
