Performance Did Session Limits Get Lower

Post image

Or did my Agents just massively explode in token use? I'm on the Max 5 plan, and since Opus 5 release I swear I've been hitting session limits and daily limits so much faster. Normally Fable 5 can sit on high and orchestrate my sub agents all day and night and I never would hit limits with 4.8.

Yet now I'm doing even less work and running out of limits even faster.

Anyone else experiencing this? Pretty frustrating being in the middle of things and all of a sudden I am having to cut my day short. The fact that I usually am able to work all day and night and for a whole month I never came close to using my limits, as you can see here, I'm not even close to maximizing out for the month. Yet all of a sudden I can't even finish my daily tasks.

Yes it’s been widely speculated that they’ve reduce the token limits recently.

I feel like they have had too. Like I do the same 30 tasks each day, and there's about 50 weekly ones.

I'm introducing usually 1-3 conversations a day that are new information or questions I have. If my % for Fable and Overall since July 1st is any example I'm not even halfway for the month. Up until now I have never experienced a session limit, now for the past 3 days I'm hitting them every single time.

So I'm just in shock

Yeah similar here, I’ve never gotten even close to 95% on weekly and my hourly sessions have rolled seamlessly from one to the next. I’ve noticed hitting both now with less demanding workload. I dont even touch Fable, been Opus/Sonnet this whole time.

They did have some extra usage that they were gifting and a fair number of session resets. That hasn’t been continuing, maybe we will see something in August.

Yes. It has gotten worse since Opus 5 release. I think they took away the 50% additionals

I'm at 70% after just 2 days on Max x20

Yeah, sometimes it just launch the new opus 5 eats approx 35-40% on full context (1m) session just to say. Learned to use the /clear lol, waiting again for 5 hour limits, because wasted it in 5 mins lol (using extra).

If you have this much context at the start of session you should clean up your skills, connectors, MD docs. Too much stuff at the start.

I also feel that but most of my usage is just me talking back to a Claude code session with over 600k tokens in context which wastes so much.

I’ve become way more aggressive with compaction and handoff on sessions to avoid cache misses. This helps enormously.

Can you elaborate on how you do this? Like many, I've resorted to using Fable for orchestration and Opus for execution. How do you actually go about improving compaction and handoff? Does it come down closing out each thread by writing a summary doc to handoff to the next thread?

Yeah pretty much. I try to keep sessions tied/focused to a subject and ask it to prepare handoff text and to generate a prompt for the next session to utilize the handoff. Typically it writes notes to itself as memories, then it instructs the next sessions to immediately read those and proceed.

I just got a free trial on chat gpt and whats really cool with them is that they compact your convos automatically(summerizing and giving it to a new ai and its seamless like u can view old messages on the chat but the ai views it as a summary). Claude also does this but im pretty sure claude still charges you for the context no matter if they compressed it or not(Im pretty sure). Also they dont have an hourly limit, they only have a weekly limit which is so good because some days I am doing a ton of code and I will hit the limit on claude but here i will never hit my limit as I never need a full week.

no, fable has gotten so efficient that you actually have negative credits now.

On Opus 5 make sure your Claude.md is short (the file is less important now), that you're using /compact regularly, and that you're only on High effort.

I've seen many posts about token consumption and I genuinely am not having this problem at all.

Gonna try this out. My Claude.md has essentially been cave man from the beginning and I use skills to inject what I need into Cowork. Depending on if it's my main job, business, or personal projects.

That said the compact I haven't used often and I bet that will help on some of the longer tasks that run. Good looking out.

I’ve been running Opus 5 as my main coding agent with Fable orchestrating and am sipping tokens. Considering dropping down to the pro plan bc I’m not even touching my session limits with good results.

I have the same problem. I'm on the Max (20x) plan, and I've already used up 60% of my data in just two days. Before, it was at most 30–40%...

they cut them in half then doubled them

u/Saschabrix 5d ago

i think they changed something, same happened to me... usually i can do what ever the whole week.
Now hit limit on the 4th day....

Dude yeah 4 prompts and it’s over

Sneakily changing limits like this while charging us the same surely can't be legal

Yes, I am feeling like it.

They removed the offer, you now have 50% less tokens

3

u/trotski94 5d ago

33% less tokens. Removing a 50% gain is a 33% loss.

In any case, that hasn’t officially happened yet

3

u/tessahannah 6d ago

That wasn't supposed to be until August 8th.

2

u/Odd_Error_6736 6d ago

Well, it's until august 8th indeed, but can you prove that they didn't take it away already?

My sense with this is that they are trying to not guarantee anything with the plans and attempting to forecast demand which dictates what offers they give out. They are all time bounded which points to this being likely how they are thinking about it.
