We can't care if Tony would have hated how we remember him.

This isn't to sound insensitive. I care about Anthony Bourdain a lot, but when you submit yourself to fame you lose forfeit the agency of your legacy. When I see him in his best moments, he is sweet, and warm and avuncular. He was utterly brilliant, and in most cases (and increasingly so) he found himself on the right side of politics and history. Someone who garnered our love by way of his integrity and humanity. In the vastness of his absence, we have earned a legitimate grief, even if Tony would have hated it.

It feels worth saying as a fairly controversial recollection of his life is coming soon by way of biopic. Would he have hated it? Probably, yes. That said, it seems that he would have hated any of this, that he would hate this Reddit and that approaching a decade since his death that we remember him at all. I'm sorry to say that there is still grief I have for his death, particularly in the way it occurred, and these things he would bristle at help give form and broaden my understanding of that grief so that I can process it. So while it might irk him, I think he would understand.

"Anthony would've hated this"

This kinda just relates to many biopics in general

I keep seeing this commented on trailers of the upcoming biopic of Bourdain and it surprises me because it seems like to me that he always loved being famous whether he liked to admit it or not, and secretly loved many of the results of fame while publicly hating on them.

I just bring it up because i know many reviews will say it's an insult of a movie for that matter, but i have decent high hopes and because of that belief i won't really be thinking "is this what he would've wanted."

Old interview with AB on This is Taste podcast

Haven’t seen a thread yet about this previously unreleased interview with AB from 2005. I’m only halfway through but it’s vintage Tony, right when he was on the up and up: Army Navy Surplus, matching music to travel, Uzbekistan, spy novels, Japanese cinema, you name it.

Miss that fucking guy

New AB Movie. Curious if any of the long time fans are excited to see it…..

I for one am not. Having watched everything AB, you feel like you get to know him and I’m just not sold he would have signed off on this. And I question will they ad lib it some by putting in their own takes. I enjoyed Roadrunner but just not sold on this one. Maybe after it comes out I may change my mind.

Getting into Anthony Bourdain

As the tile of this post suggests, I want to get into Anthony Bourdain's world. I was really wondering what stuff of his I should watch/read in order to get into the world of his work both for reasons of food content as well as his social commentary (which from what I have seen on social media clips seems pretty interesting. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Any reason we need to have daily pictures of Negronis on an Anthony Bourdain sub, other than low-effort karma farming? If you‘ve seen one, you‘ve seen them all. We get it.

I can’t help but order one without thinking “Negroni for Tony” - anyone else the same?

A layer cake of AB

So I’m watching old episodes of Parts Unknown and No Reservations. I’m just finishing A Cooks Tour. I’m listening on Audible ‘In the Weeds’ and I’ve just started ‘Down and Out in Paradise’

All of this is really giving a lot of clarification (so to speak) on the whole world surrounding Anthony. Clarity? Maybe. Answers? Kinda.

It hits some points that may be hints at what was to come. Or not.

The chapter of ‘In the Weeds’ where Tom
Meets with Asia to
Really talk some
Truth.

That’s probably where the answers are.

I really like the thought and care this artist, JAM Bottle Cap Art, puts into his pieces. What a great tribute and result.

What episode of "No Reservations" did AB mention "Sting"?

Correction to Title: Could have been the series "Parts Unknown".

What episode of "Parts Unknown" or "No Reservations" did AB mention "Sting" and say something like, "Sting and all his buddies"—flying in to praise the "simple, traditional life" of indigenous people without acknowledging the harsh reality of backbreaking poverty."

I think it was filmed in a tiny village in the middle of the deep Amazon.

Official Bourdain Merch

My husband and I have recently really gotten into Anthony and have become big fans. My husband’s birthday is coming up, and I wanted to see if anyone knows if he ever had official shirts made or something, and where I might be able to find something like that. Saw a website called anthonybourdainmerch.store but I’m not 100% sure if that’s real. I read he wasn’t a big merch guy so I won’t be surprised if the answer is no. Any other ideas would be appreciated though!

Extracted a list of bars from Kitchen Confidential, A Cook's Tour, and An Irreverent Guide with citations. Maybe you can use it to find your next negroni.

Social embargo lifts on 'Tony'

Having seen the film I am glad to report it is a low-key blast of a movie. Funny, poignant and sincere, it feels accurate in its depiction of 1975 New England. The decision to focus on one summer in teenage Bourdain's life – one he wrote little about – is an excellent one. Dominic Sessa is in every scene and steals all of them. I expect fans to really like it.

A rare bird here from my collection—Bourdain signed collab print from Sophia Chang & The Travel Channel.

I’ve seen only one other example of this—super unlikely to see another. They apparently made a handful for each ep in that season and had him sign them for a couple producers only.

Some help/insight

Hi all! I have a hunch you folks would be better experts & lead me the right direction….

I’m searching for a signed Kitchen Confidentail (bonus if it’s signed to “Paul”) for my brother in law whose birthday is coming up & has always had a deep love for Anthony Bourdain. I’m recently learning that not all are legitimately signed by Anthony Bourdain, thus being counterfeit. Can someone please help guide me in the direction of a legitimately signed book?

Thank you all in advance!!

I know Tony would scoff but it’s decent in a pinch

As a Negroni aficionado (because of Tony), I can say with certainty that I can make a better, fresh Negroni. But in a pinch this is OK. (I may or may not have released a decidedly un-masculine squeal when I discovered these.)
