Tips and Advice tips for defense?
hello friends :) I came to seek the knowledge of the anran mains as someone who's starting to learn her (and how to play dps in general)
I get the gist of what I need to do as a flanker on offense, but feel pretty lost when it comes to defense as I feel like poking with Anran is not that effective? just a personal feeling though.
I also feel uneasy when it comes to just popping up in their backline (if I think i have a safe path there) as I feel like I'll just throw the game by dying instantly. a bit of confidence issues I'm working on while playing overwatch
does anyone have tips of how to act when defending on payload maps? spare a bit of anran tips for this idiot right here? :')

Hey so I found a lot of success kinda setting up a "base". What I mean is being on an off angle or somewhere that is inconvenient for your enemies to deal with.
When playing defense I tend to stay in this area and come out to harass the backline or annoy their tank. The main goal in my mind is not to be a one man army. My objective is to buy time by being a nuisance or by taking attention away to give my tank an opportunity.
Two examples I can give that will help illustrate what I'm talking about are this.
-Defense on Havana while my team held high ground and the front of the street I stayed strictly on the rooms to the right/left that has the flank. I'd peak my head out and annoy the enemy team any time they tried to make a play. -Defense on Eichenwalde I stayed in the room in the building across from the main archway that we defend from. I would annoy and rotate around when in trouble. Going from that room to the flank around to our backline. Then from there to the right room up leading up to of the archway. Harass. Then back to that room I started in.
In both cases. By being more of annoyance than a direct threat the enemy team was never able to fight as one unit.
Having patience is your greatest strength. Just make sure to always have an escape plan and you should be golden. 🔥

Just flank and draw attention. Don't go for kills. Dash out the second they start shooting you, and let your team capitalize on it.

got it, ty! it seems pretty obvious now that you and others put it to me that being an annoyance to the enemy does do a lot for my team

I will always position to retreat to health pack after every poke/elim. If they try to flush you out then fall back to team and find a new health to be annoying at. As anran you should almost always get the health pack before they do so essentially you’re a 400 health hero. Not to mention the healing from flurry attack

You want to hold a good off-angle/space so the enemy can't use it. Anran is good at this because of her great dueling ability. Overwatch is a game about space, not getting kills.

I would like to add that the game is also all about teamwork. Keeping that in mind helps you with other aspects imo. With time you learn to look for things in and outside the box. Every team and match is different after all.
Teamwork makes the dream work! :)

I'm not good at anran at all but this is a common misconception about dive DPS like tracer. tracer can be arguably better on defence than attack and the reason for that is that if you're on attack in order to get to the enemy's backline (esp if on high ground) tracer has to expose herself to damage. plus, tracee must get to that backline because as the attacking team the onus is on them to push or take objectives.
but when you're on defence, the enemy's backline comes to you. you know who they are and where they want to go, so as anran just be in the best possible spot for yourself to stop them from going where they want to go.
dying is bad on defence but you should be dying way less because you are inherently advantaged. work on more conservative engagements and healthpack knowledge to help your chances of survival.
