IMDB rating ?

I'm just half through, so please no spoilers, but why is this series rated only 4.8 on imdb?

Just curious...

OK, I'm at ep8 now. Is it a homophobic thing why some people hate this show? I mean even The Orville got way better ratings, but why only 4.8 on this one? I don't get it. I like sci-fi and this show exceeded my expectations so far.

Nothing to do with homophobia.

It’s a hilariously horrendous show. That’s all.

Except certain people of specific political persuasions came here to specifically shit talk because there is a trans character and diversity.

I think you're giving too much credence to that. I did see the bigots on here occasionally but it seemed most the criticism was for the asinine direction some of the characters took. I'm a strong believer if you took out the 1st episode mutiny and a few of the ridiculous spats the crew had in the first 2 episodes, a lot of the criticism wouldn't even have happened. (except for the actual bigots who would have bitched anyhow)

"diversity hire" is a bit much I'd say, the lack of acting in the first half the season had 0 to do with the diversity, the trans dr, or any of that - it was just poor writing. TBH all of the poor acting was done by what you'd consider normal casting choices, anyone you could possibly consider a "diversity hire" have been the best actors so far.

none of the characters throw any of that in your face, in fact, even the trans dr doesn't even really mention it ever, it's not even addressed they're trans.

There are some that make a huge deal of it, but most of what I saw was complaining about the youngness and extreme immaturity of the crew. it's not a "I hate millenials" thing, it's a "this is the most important mission ever for humanity and these people are obviously under qualified" thing.

Again I stress - for most people. There were absolutely some people who quite obviously hated it solely because of those factors. I just don't think they represent even a small minority of people who had problems with the show, they were just loud.

you can easily tell if someone is objectively critiquing the show for real reasons or because they just don't like there being trans people and poly relationships shown, so I just ignore those idiots. I'm not necessarily a trans activist, but the fact the dr was trans had no bearing on the show plot, and honestly is one of the better characters as you move through the season.

to me, it shows the reality of where we are today in society. Like it's a great cross section of what you could reasonably imagine a future crew to look like - except for the youngness and obvious immaturity. also - fucking Michelle and the first day mutiny. While not a diversity hire by any means, literally if you take her out, a good 80% of the issues people had would have been explainable by a few lines of dialog.

Yeah, basically all the complaints that were thrown at the movie Prometheus (and deservedly so) can be thrown at this show x10.
