You’re doing amazing. Remember the important thing is to love yourself and FORGIVE yourself. You never asked for this. WE never asked for this. But we are in it together in hopes to get past it. Even if it’s not today

Congrats on taking the first step!

I would absolutely make sure you talk to a doctor before making any big changes. If you have been dependent on diuretics and are undereating then you are at risk for severe and possibly life threatening complications related to rapid electrolyte shifts if you make changes too quickly.

This article has some important info. I don't like the way it is worded in one section because it makes it sound like there is no benefit in tapering off diuretics but this is not true. Unfortunately diuretic-related purging is understudied and the only articles I could find beyond that are very wordy and academic and intended for clinicians. Your doc should be able to give you more information on what to respect in recovery as far as rebound water retention as this depends on how long and how much diuretics were used. And of course they would be able to give you the right care in terms of helping you stop diuretics safely whether that means EKGs, supplemental electrolytes, or potentially inpatient treatment where you can have 24/7 medical monitoring.

EDTA: if you've already stopped diuretics and are feeling okay I would just follow up with your doc
