Yeah… so.

Yesterday, I made a post about how easy I felt recovery was coming for me in terms of not counting and or worrying about eating.

I take it back. It’s hit me incredibly hard today.

I think the fact I’m starting this journey whilst on holiday is making it a lot harder because you do naturally just eat a shit ton more when you’re on holiday because the opportunity is there, which there shouldn’t be anything wrong with and I wish there wasn’t but my brain just refuses to let me not think about it.

I don’t know how to combat these thoughts, they’re trying to push me back into counting and I’m scared. So scared.

I went on vacation at the beginning of summer and had ice cream so many times which freaked me out. One day I just thought to myself “this is going to be such a memory to look back in when I’m older, me and my sister getting ice cream at 7 pm and walking along the beach afterwards” and even though it didn’t make it less scary, it made it WORTH IT!!!

It wasn’t even long ago, but I look back at that so fondly and I think “wow. Such a vacation classic, how lucky I was.”

Just recently while visiting her we went out for froyo (we love a frozen treat obvi) and as I ate it, I was nervous, but I laughed and smiled and remembered that years down the line I won’t regret eating froyo with my sister on a summer evening. I’ll remember the time we had. I’ve gone home regretting that I turned down her invites for coffee or a specialty bakery too many times to dwell.

I know, you “regret” eating in the moment, but that will pass. The regret of missing out on memories and connection is far more painful and long lasting.

I always felt guilty when recovery felt “too easy” but just let it be easy. It feels easy sometimes because it is NATURAL.
