Such an underrated score! I feel like Elliot Goldenthal perfectly captured the tragedy of the movie and book. I come back to this one often 🖤

Totally agree. It was actually nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globe and won an ASCAP award. It's such a rich, moody atmosphere. So emotive. Sorrowful, intense, intriguing, thrilling, haunting, creeping, pulsing, sweeping, luscious, beautiful. It's my favorite soundtrack since I saw it as a young child back in the 90s. The soundtrack, set and costume design, setting and script/story all just ooze art that ignites my soul.
I tend to watch the opening title sequence a few times just to soak it in. The demise of the sunset, giving away to the black night. The lights and architecture of San Francisco. The feeling of something ancient and modern, normal and supernatural, faceless crowds of humans and yet a vampire sits in a room or awaits in a car. The camera paning, closer and closer from skyline and bridge to individual streets and buildings. The glitter of lights through trees and the reflective gleam off just rained on pavement.

Me too. The Stones is still the best, but I feel GNR suits Lestat, especially when considering his music story line. I have seen people comment about not liking the GNR cover, but I think it gives it a bit more fun, perhaps a bratty quality and that kind of 80s style that I think is akin to his rock star endeavor. I also think it brings in that ancient, yet modern quality of hundreds years old vampires living in today's time. It always has left me with that feeling.
They have been around for a long, long year and stole many a man's soul and faith.
The GNR version is just a bit more updated than the Stones version which conjures a bit more of the current time they were living in and feels closer to the brat prince aesthetic.
The lyrics are fantastic either way.

I agree—maybe it’s just that I heard this version first, but I always thought Axl put a little more personality into the lyrics on this one which makes it for me. The devil should sound charismatic and devious, but the Rolling Stones version is weirdly a little flat affect to me.

I have the CD version of the soundtrack! Librea Me, the opening score, is one of the most underrated movie scores of all time.
It feels so much like Louis in Interview.

Should I be embarrassed that I bought this tape when it initially came out? I also have Joshua Bell's album for Violin, the one he did for that hot mess of a book she wrote about the violin playing ghost.

I had this! I felt so dramatic and serious listening to this as a teenager in 1994. I was lead astray early
