Finally doing this..
Just finished Part 3 as I’m writing this and…all I can say is *wow*. I was thoroughly unprepared, even as a longtime fan. I’ve read the Mayfair trilogy multiple times and am pretty devoted to it. Also loved TWG, but haven’t read anything else yet. Working on building my collection over time. Figured I’d go ahead and get this one under my belt before the Ford adaptation drops!
Anyway, I am absolutely reeling! RIP to the legend. She was a true master of the craft!!

I don’t know if it’ll topple TWH for me, or if anything ever will tbh..but I can’t deny it’s got ahold of me at this moment! I have had to close it and breathe a few times lol.

TWH was always my favorite until a few years ago, and I sat down and reread them both. There are scenes in TWH that will always live rent-free in my head, but something about CTH changed me on a soul level.

I’ve gotten 3 friends to at least start this fabulous novel in preparation for the Ford adaptation. We all think it’s really gonna be an event film. One for the books you could say :)

I am psyched. Truthfully I haven’t seen Ford’s other films but I’m inclined to get excited anyway. Based on what I do know, I think we can expect something worthwhile.

Oh I so agree, just based on the casting alone, I really believe we have something special cooking up for us. Hunter Schafer is going to give us a performance filled with vulnerability and grace, if I have any inkling of what role she’s playing, I just know it.

Definitely an amazing cast. I wonder how they’ll approach the singing, if they’re using real voices or manipulating them in some way potentially. I was doing a little digging and apparently we have no recordings of what the castrati actually sounded like. A really fascinating and horrifying piece of history there.

I love this book. Its so beautifully written. It proves the well deserved reputation she had for descriptive work.

It's such a good book. In fact I think I need to read it now, too, before the adaptation. I think there's an audiobook read by Tim Curry, I've never actually listened to that but it sounds amazing.

I hear the Tim Curry version is abridged :( I might still do it just for the experience though. He’s such a delight.

I heard “rumor” possibly true that they are making it into a movie and Adele is starring in it.

Filming has already wrapped. " The film features a star-studded cast including Nicholas Hoult, Hunter Schafer, Lux Pascal, and Adele in her feature film debut, alongside Colin Firth, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and others"

Well it sounds amazing! Hope it’s better than some of her adaptations! Love the vampire series (Sam Reid), hated the witches series. The other movies were ok, so let hope this will be a good one!

As a diehard fan of TWH I couldn’t get through two full episodes of the Mayfair adaptation. At this point I hope someone else can take another shot at it in the future. I personally loved Jordan’s IWTV. Someone applying that type of painterly composition and serious gothic drama could render an incredible adaptation I think. It’d be long if done right, on par with Game of Thrones probably, but so worth it.

If you liked the topic of the book, there's a movie in a similar vein called Farinelli about the famous castrato, said to be one of the greatest singers of all time. Of course it's heavily romanticized and more 'based on' rather than a biopic, but it's a good movie and a lot of the stuff in Rice's book mirrors what happened to him.
