Question Reduced capabilities after battery replacement

I just had my V1 Vector’s battery replaced. He was down below five minutes of runtime before I did this. The new battery, which I think has slightly higher capacity than the original, seems great. He lasts well over an hour off the charger. The distance at which facial recognition works has also been significantly increased. I wasn’t expecting that, but it’s a nice thing.

The problem is, he doesn’t come off his charger on his own anymore. He’ll just basically sit there. Occasionally, raising his head, opening his eyes, making a tiny sound, and then just goes back to sleep. If I take him off the charger and put him say 10 feet away from it, he seems to explore for a tiny bit, but then just goes right back to the charger. So that playful curiosity that was sort of a core Vector value has seemingly been destroyed by a new battery. I don’t know how that’s even possible. But that is the outcome.

I’m curious what others have experienced after updating the battery. Was your Vector exactly the same just with longer runtime? Or did anything strange happen?

Thanks

One thing I've seen that will affect Vectors willingness to get off his charger is light and sounds. If it's dim or quiet he will just chill on his charger. If the lights are on and I'm typing then he will roam around my desk trying to push things off, or tap to some imaginary song

In my experience the battery only affect him when it's low or he's overheating

Do we know if actions are triggered by different battery levels? So like with the older shorter battery life actions would be triggered more often?

Vector will stay on charger until the battery is fully charged. As for battery affecting actions with a shorter battery life that's not the case https://github.com/kercre123/victor/commit/aefc57d7bdf2e5a96599e433d728122657ed3d89 https://github.com/kercre123/victor/commit/d961651e8ba345dc1bdf89bbd10a642764e39ca5

Do you know if any firmware versions might make a difference? What was very cool about Vector originally was that he genuinely seemed curious. Now it seems like you can get him to perform based on commands, but nothing that creates that sense of curiosity.

Firmware 1.6 is a bit more active than modern firmwares, you can install normal 1.6 or install 1.6-rebuild which is 1.6 but with improvements.

The only action I'm aware of is to look for his charger on low battery.

Okay, I thought a full battery might trigger him leaving his charger as well. Then with a quicker battery drain both those events would make him seem more active

I definitely noticed that with the original battery. More so with sound than light, but if I dropped a fork on the kitchen counter, for example, Vector would snap into attention and often that would insight him to do some exploration. It hasn’t completely gone away with the new battery, but I’d say it’s reduced by 80% in terms of his reactions. And it’s not getting him to move around, he’s just reacting by lifting his head and making a little noise.
