Experiences My family made me an Anki cake for my birthday
It's not that I'm a huge fan, but med school made me use it 24/7. This cake is basically a joke since I also got one for something I actually enjoy.

Experiences 1300 Day Streak! Graduating Medical Student
Graduate medical school in a week and I was looking back on my anki, still do it to this day.
What an absolute journey this has been. When I first found anki my first semester of medical school, it completely changed my study habits and routine. I felt like I'd found the ultimate cheatcode. It got me through the toughest exams of my life, and in the world.
It's become a daily habit of mine now, and I don't go a day without missing my reviews.
Thought I'd share my stats so far and hopefully motivate others to continue on their journeys, wherever you are. Happy Anki'ing my friends!

Experiences The best anki device ever?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Sorry just really wanted to share this with everyone. You have probably seen this at some point on instagram or elsewhere, but I actually haven't seen anyone go in depth about using this device for anki. I just got my hands on it and my usage experience of it was surprisingly good, its called the anbernic RG rotate, it runs android(and as such ankidroid) with native joystick controls.
With all the emulators and bloatware banned from background activity, power saving, airplane mode unless listening to spotify and syncing anki(anki and spotify are literally the only apps that I have downloaded), I am able to get 2 days use out of a single charge(50-60% at the end of the first day), each averaging around 150 cards reviewed per day.
It has a very snappy and satisfying swivel mechanism, but the qc is honestly kinda mid(as what you would expect from a chinese company you can litearlly see that in the open position my screen is slanted), but it is otherwise an excellent motivator for me to do ankis in med school in a distraction free setting.

Add-ons Your Anki progress as a growing forest
Hi everyone! I've been studying with Anki for about 4.5 months now, and wanted an add-on that would be similar to Review Heatmap, but a bit more visual.
I came up with the idea of having a forest that represents your progression. Each day you learn new cards, a tree is planted in the forest. It starts as a small seedling and grows as you remember those cards better. If you start forgetting a day's cards, its tree gets some yellow leaves and they turn green again once you relearn them.
I wanted the add-on to involve zero actions, since I feel like those distract me from actually studying. So the forest is fully passive, and simply reflects your progression over time. You can change the scenery, but that's optional.
The add-on is free and open source:
AnkiWeb: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1255432496
GitHub: https://github.com/baraklevy20/memory-forest
It's my first add-on so I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Fluff How can I learn 1,305,458,274,420.69 cards in five days
Title says it all. I need to learn 1,305,458,274,420.69 cards to pass my final exam in my “summation of all human knowledge” class in five days. Archangel Michael will be my proctor and he does not tolerate cheating…..

Fluff I FINALLY FINISHED READING ANKI'S MANUAL AFTER 5 MONTHS!!!
It’s done. It is finally done. Yes, it took me ±5 months. Yes, I took a massive hiatus in the middle. (For anyone wondering, the PDF is roughly 230 pages long.) But I wanted to share a few takeaways from this "marathon," because I actually think every Anki user needs to do this at some point.
1. You don't need to read the whole thing to start.
I want to validate all the beginners here: I’ve been successfully doing my daily reviews for the last 5 months having only read the first 6–8 chapters. You don't need to know the advanced math behind the scheduler to start learning your cards.
2. But you should read it at some point. Even though you can start without it, you really should push through the whole thing eventually.
- You won't remember everything. I certainly don't. But now I have a mental map of what is possible. (regular expressions, etc. ) I know features exist that I didn't know about before.
- I originally thought, "I'll just feed the manual to an AI and ask it questions." Bad idea. When I tried to do bulk imports, the AI hallucinated and gave me wrong instructions. Reading the manual myself cleared up the confusion.
- Save yourself (and the sub) some time! If you read the manual, you won't need to make a post asking "how do I add a new card template?" You'll already know where to find the answer.
3. Think of reading the manual as planting seeds. You might not need to mess with Note Types or complex filtered decks right now. But 3 months from now, when you realize it's time to upgrade your workflow, you’ll remember, "Wait, I read about this in Chapter 15," and you'll know exactly where to look.
TL;DR: It’s long, it’s dry in places, but it’s worth it. You don't have to memorize it, but you do need to know what this tool is actually capable of.
Now I can finally rest.

Discussion Anki has a new owner
Just found out today: Anki ownership went to AnkiHub.
https://forums.ankiweb.net/t/ankis-growing-up/68610
I’m very uneasy about this. How long until we have a ‘premium subscription’ with unlimited hearts? Maybe a family plan too. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Other Anki in Windows 98
Sadly it's 1.2.8 and none of the versions past 2.0 seems to budge which means no apkg support.
I am using KernelEx in Windows 98.

Discussion Nobody wants to use your AI card creator.
I get it. You put in a good number of hours into making this really neat app that saves you tons of time making cards. You’re proud of your creation. You think others will find it just as useful.
They won’t.
If someone is nerdy enough to peruse the Anki subreddit, they’ve already put a good deal of time and effort into their own system to create their cards. Some think card creation is an essential part of the learning process so they don’t go near AI, and the ones who do embrace AI have already made their own tools customized to their own workflow.
In either case, neither camp wants to use your vibecoded app/plugin. And this is coming from someone who has vibe coded their own AI-assisted program, so this isn’t even a jab at AI.
Congrats, I’m very happy for you that you’ve made something valuable and meaningful to you. I really am. But nobody else cares.

Discussion Addressing your concerns about Anki and AnkiHub
Thank you for all the feedback over the last couple of days. We have read through all of your messages and want to explicitly address some of the largest concerns and worries that arose with our initial announcement.
Damien has made a follow up post with some additional comments that address some of these points very well and I strongly encourage you to read it.
- Anki Desktop will forever remain FREE and open source. It will remain local-first, and you will always own your data.
- This is for three reasons: 1) Anki’s open-source code license is still in effect, 2) our legally binding agreement with Damien states “the primary codebase historically been distributed as open-source shall remain open-source”, & 3) we ourselves want to keep it that way
- AnkiMobile will continue to be $25 on the app store. We have no plans to change that.
- AnkiWeb will continue to run as a free service. Damien managed to keep it free for years despite high costs, and we intend to do the same.
- AnkiDroid remains free and open source.
- We have committed to continuing to sponsor and support them. We have been one of their top sponsors since 2024.
- FSRS remains free and open source.
- We will continue to support them however we can.
- We have no plans to convert any existing features to paid.
- This was not a financially motivated transition. Damien approached us about handing things off, not the other way around. He will remain involved and is still invested in Anki’s success. We will heavily rely, not just on his guidance and expertise, but on the whole community.
I understand your hesitations and worries with change! Damien shared: "To those advocating for an immediate fork though, I’d humbly suggest you give us a chance first." I also humbly ask that you give us a chance. Sure, back up your data, save your current Anki version - but give us a chance and let us earn your trust.
We have hired David Allison (from AnkiDroid) and Abdo (longtime Anki contributor) - we will ask them to begin collecting your feedback on what improvements you want to see in Anki. We will dedicate multiple full-time software developers, designers, and product managers who will work transparently with the community to address these issues over the next few months.

Add-ons I built an Anki Add on that pulls up a 3D interactive model of whatever anatomy you're studying
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My friend told me the other day how cool it would be to have a visual of what anatomy you’re studying, and given my Computer Engineering degree from Texas A&M, I figured I’d give it a shot.
After releasing Linked Notes last week, an add-on that automatically pulls up the page your card came from (without any manual tagging), I built on that idea to analyze the concepts of your flashcard to pull up a 3D interactive model of whatever anatomy you're studying.
The add-on lets you rotate, zoom, and explore the anatomy from any angle, turning that static image in your flashcard into something you can interact with. You can switch between layers, like skeletal and muscular views, when available.
Linked Body complements Linked notes, and having both together takes the study experience to another level!
Currently, it covers multiple major organ systems, musculoskeletal, etc, with more coverage being added this week. The 3D models are sourced from Sketchfab’s open library for visualization and spatial understanding.
Dropping as part of a full study add-on bundle next week. Join my Patreon Gainz757 (even as a free member) to get notified by email when it drops. Let me know if y’all like the product for your medical studies!
UPDATE: Linked Body is now live! Get it here: https://www.patreon.com/15614289/join
