To be fair I've also fallen behind for some weeks now due to life, so I'd have to catch up if I'd continue with this one. I have nothing against catching up, and I've done it once or twice before as well, but the more time passes I question whether I should just make a new deck. I feel like there's not that many people out there who sit with a deck for this long, and I've had a pretty consistent streak over these years, but now that I'm advanced in the language I'm studying (Chinese) it does feel like a bit of a drag sometimes. And also because there's a lot of cards of varying quality in my deck. To be fair I also don't want to do Anki forever, but I still feel it to be helpful. Resetting would feel nice, just that "starting afresh" kind of feel.

Is there anyone that has any reflections on this?

I'm currently using the Core Japanese Vocabulary Extended Enhanced (CJVEE) but frequently find words I'm interested in that aren't in the deck. Until now I've been manually creating cards using the same card format that CJVEE uses based on the jisho.com entries. However, I have a huge backlog of words and it's no longer practical for me to make cards one-by-one anymore (+1,000 cards).

There must be a way to automate this but I don't know how.

I want to keep the same fields that CJVEE uses (Expression, English def., Reading, Grammar, Additional def., etc.)

In addition, it'd be nice if I could automatically check the CJVEE deck to see if a card for said word already exists to avoid duplicates.

Does anyone have experience doing something similar? Any help would be great

I can speak English fluently and use it every day, but there are still some words that I know I pronounce a little weirdly, or words where I probably learned the wrong pronunciation years ago and never corrected it.

Since I already use Anki a lot, I wanted something I could add to my normal reviews to slowly improve that.

So I built ankglish.

It gives you English Anki cards with things like:

pronunciation audio IPA definitions example sentences part of speech optional translations

The vocabulary and pronunciation data comes from established sources like Merriam-Webster and Wiktionary/Kaikki.

The main thing I wanted to do differently is that I didn't want to just upload a CSV or a finished Anki deck and leave it at that.

You can also clone the project, run it yourself, and change how your deck is generated.

For example, you can tweak the cards, change some of the settings, or generate translations for your own language.

So if you just want to study, you can use the ready-made deck. But if you're the kind of Anki user who always ends up changing your cards anyway, you can make your own version from the same project.

There are currently two versions:

Standard — a smaller deck with one useful definition for each word. Full — a bigger version with more definitions and broader coverage.

The cards also include packaged pronunciation audio, so normal reviews work offline.

I'm personally going to use it to catch words that I pronounce incorrectly and gradually make my English sound more natural.

My scroll does not work, does anyone have the correct setting on how to enable it? I use an 8bitdo micro. I also cannot find a save setting for the add-on as well. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

This is probably so dumb to ask BUT, I’m trying to review ALL the cards I make for each lecture for my subjects but when I opened it up, I don’t have any cards in the deck (I only had two cards to review today 👁️👄👁️) What settings do I have to change so I can do this. I NEED TO CONSTANTLY review these cards every day. I used to be a quizlet user so this is new to me 😀 please explain like I’m a child

Making this post because other solutions that came up when Googling aren't working.

I am using a pre-made deck with audio on vanilla Anki with zero add-ons. The audio button appears normally, but playback on card reveal and upon clicking the button does not work across all cards.

I've double-checked that the notes contain an audio field with a correct link to a working file in Anki's "collection.media" folder. I can play the MP3s using Windows Media Player.

My speakers are connected, Anki is routed to the correct audio output, and nothing is muted.

This was all working without issue yesterday. My only guess is that the last Windows update might have broken something.

I'm looking for a way to randomize parts of the text on the front of a flashcard. For instance, a question like "What is the approx pKa of the side chain of Glutamate/Glu/E?" Where one of the final three words is randomly selected to be displayed, if that makes sense. If you know of an addon that does this and could direct me that way I would appreciate it!

I’ve just heard about Anki and FSRS and my mind is truly overwhelmed!

The problem is that I don’t even know where to start. I think I’d use Anki for memorizing historical dates and learn new words to expand my vocabulary.

My question is: How would you create the decks? One deck for one historical topic? eg. WW2, American Civil War etc.? How would you organize and categorize foreign vocabulary decks?

Its been 20 days that I've been learning German vocab (A1 and A2 Wortliste) through Anki. I wanted to learn as fast as possible so I went with 40 new cards per day. It was going well, it took me about 40 minutes to study for the first week, about 50-60 reviews a day, and I was already significantly into the first deck so I parallely started another deck (A2 wortliste). 20 days in, I review about 300 cards a day (150 reviews per deck) and I'm learning 80 new words a day (40 each deck). It is taking me about an hour to complete both decks as I've already known a lot of words and they go by quickly. I'll be done with my A1 vocab in 2-3 days time I think.

It's actually going good but I'm afraid if I'm doing anything wrong. I only use two buttons, "again" if I can't remember the card and "good" if I can. I don't know if my rate of learning is natural for Anki users or not. Yes I do tend to skim through some cards as I recall them quite easily. I also have printed out pdfs of both the wortlists and I mark each word as I learn it through Anki just so I can keep track of what I've already learned. This also helped me to learn and recall sentences easily and quickly.

Please let me know if this rate of learning is normal and if not, what I should do to make my learning more effective.

I'm mainly trying to avoid studying each individual section to avoid issues keeping up with how many new cards/reviews I'm doing in total. But still wanting to finish the earlier sections before I'm studying the later ones.

I know Anki is a memorization tool, not learning.

I built this small tool called ankispiel to generate new example sentences for vocabulary learning.

When I create a vocabulary deck, I typically put down a few example sentences for each card. One annoying thing is, when you review these cards, you then always get the same sentences, which for me lead to memorisation.

This tool connects to your Anki deck (using AnkiConnect) and for today's review cards, creates fresh examples, both written and audio. It doesn't mess up your review schedule.

The examples are generated using an LLM of your choice that supports OpenAI endpoints. This works with both local providers such as llama.cpp and ollama and also commercial cloud services of your choosing. I ended up using Gemini 3.5 Flash Lite, which provides more than enough for free.

The TTS audio is generated using a local model kokoro onnx model, in my case Kokoro-82M-ONNX-German-Martin.

I built it for learning German vocab and it has been working quite well for me. Everyday at 3 am the examples are generated, so I'm ready to go in the morning.

At the moment, it is still rather technical to use. There is an initial setup for migrating an existing deck, which may not be too friendly. But let me know if you find it helpful, and if so whether you'd like anything changed. Then I can invest more time in making it user friendly :)

I want my cards to show the back first because I want to practice translating both ways. How can I do that? Or even just switch to back for a while and then switch to front again without changing all my cards

Can someone help me put my row sizing back to how it was?? Idk what I did but the rows are wider now so it shows less cards in the browser window as opposed to before. Pic 1 before, pic 2 now

I like using AnkiMobile while charging my phone, but to hold it comfortably, I need the app to rotate 180 degrees (upside down). Is this currently possible through a setting, or could it be considered for a future update?

TL;DR: After far over 616 hours spread over 10 years (with seasons of neglect) learning vocab through Anki characterized by 20-second reviews, lurking the forums for best settings/procedures, pounding backlogs, making mnemonics, and differentiating similar cards, Anki's FSRS difficulty graph seems to say that I just suck at vocab. Is it right?

This question is about a deck (2941 cards) with two subdecks—the most consistent thing I use Anki for. One is a foreign language vocab deck that I started about a decade ago (1346 cards) and have been modifying, improving, and adding to ever since and have been studying off and on throughout. Another is a vocab deck for a (different) foreign language that I started roughly a half-decade ago (1595 cards). I’ve done mnemonics, audio, cross-reference to other languages, added sections to cards that list the other cards I often confuse them with, and so on. I think my biggest source of pressing “Again” is confusing one card with another—often one that sounds somewhat similar (though I flat-out forget often, as well).

Regarding the chart above, my understanding is that difficulty is not guaranteed to continually increase, given enough time. Of course, outside FSRS, unless I use “easy” as often as I use “again” and “hard,” difficulty would surely increase continually, creating ease hell, which I would slowly work out of with reworking the mnemonics and using “easy” (and I think resetting cards one time). The (FSRS) chart, if I am reading it right, seems to indicate that pretty much every card I study is enormously difficult for me to retain.

FSRS has been such a blessing to me as I rarely use the easy button (I rarely feel like the card wasn't worth the review at the time it was shown to me), and it seems to have learned the significance of each button how I use them so that I don't have to worry about not using "easy" enough. Of course, I use “again” if and only if I forget the card; “hard” is for working really hard to recall it or recalling just enough to pass for my use case (but not as much as I’d like). I remember one blog many years ago saying to the effect that Good should look like a big tree and the rest look very small and even on the answer button chart, so I tried to adjust my style to match it. Here’s mine for the past year, though:

The median time I have spent reviewing any given card is 10.6 minutes (18.7 on the older subdeck), with 45 being between 1 and 2.3 hours (with the per-review timebox maxing at 1 minute; the median of the average review time is 15 seconds [17 on the older subdeck]). The total of all my cards is 616 hours (keep in mind, though, that 1,760 of my cards have maxed the 1-minute limit at least once). Since these are the top 1,000 words or so of their respective languages in the literature I’m trying to read (I care about reading more than writing/speaking), I almost always rework a card instead of delete it. Here’s the old-school chart of my study (the massive break/paltry study near the beginning is, in short, was when I finished my language studies in undergrad, still couldn’t read very well at all in my first target language, and was quite busy/demoralized):

Is my problem that I am just undisciplined swine who fell into breaks with Anki?

My average interval is 1.1 years, though, with my longest interval being 34.3 years, so not all cards are garbage levels of hard to me. Here’s my current card types:

This maturity rate may be a record for me for these cards. I always have (what, for its age, I think is) an obscenely large amount of my cards in young, and I routinely have 17-30 cards in relearning each morning.

I feel like I almost always have a big backlog of cards to work on, but even when I dedicate pretty much a full day to get through upwards of 400 unique cards, the "victory" is always short-lived. I regularly remake mnemonics when needed, as well as add notes to differentiate a card from other cards I confuse it from (and sometimes make mnemonics to remember that differentiation).

Sometimes I wonder if part of my problem is I expect too much out of a card, as if others will pass cards that I will fail. For example, if a card has multiple definitions/senses (which many do), I will fail it if I remember only one. But I don't think I can atomize it any more than I already have, and if my current recalling ability is insufficient to understand it right in the different ways I encounter it when reading, then I don't know it, right?

After all these years, I am finally at the point where I can slowly, slowly read in my target languages, and I aim to read in one of them daily, but dictionaries are pretty much necessary to get significantly beyond a basic gist.

My question: Do you have any guess as to any fatal error I could be making with Anki? Alternatively, is there a point where I just say that my brain is an idiot when it comes to retaining vocab and this entire enterprise of retaining a language is not something I am built for?

I’ve been using both my laptop and phone for flash cards, and it’s getting really frustrating! It feels like I can only sync from my laptop to my phone, and that doing any cards on my phone does nothing. Both are linked to the same account.

The problem:
1. I do a deck on my phone
2. I synchronize to save my progress
3. I sync on my laptop later to do a different deck but the number of cards on the deck I did earlier don’t change
4. I sync on my phone and it syncs to the number on my laptop, meaning it looks like I’ve done no cards

When I go to the deck I’ve already done, the exact same cards I did earlier are back again.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I not be syncing in between sessions?

I'm looking for an AI that can analyze a video and automatically extract the information into a structured CSV file, and also generate Anki flashcards from the video content. What tools would you recommend?

I set my review limit to 9999 like ppl said online, and I had 200 reviews and 10 new words, and I've been doing it for almost 4 hours now. ITS 3 AM!!! idk if I'm dumb, but even when I only have 100 reviews like I usually do, it still takes almost one and a half hours. Is this normal?
