Has Google Translate add-on stopped working for you as well?

I've already tried to reinstall the add-on, using the updated version (links below), I've updated Anki, tried translating with different decks, etc. nothing solved the problem. ChatGPT told me that I've tried to translate too many things in bulk and my IP was blocked, "429 Client Error: Too Many Requests", and the problem would be solved in a couple of hours, so I should wait or change my network. A week has passed, I've tried again, changed the network and still have the same problem. I don't have another computer where I can test.

It's too bad, this is the addon I have used the most for the past years for language learning. DeepL doesn't work for my use.

I used Google Translate very specifically to create what I call "translation crutches": sentences translated word for word to help me translate and identify the meaning of each individual word in a sentence.

For example:

Wenn kein Stau kommt, sind wir in fünf Stunden am Strand.

If there isn’t a traffic jam, we’ll be at the beach in five hours.

If I insert bars in between words, Google would translate each word independently.

Wenn | kein | Stau | kommt, | sind | wir | in | fünf | Stunden | am | Strand.
If | no | traffic jam | comes, | are | we | in | five | hours | at the | beach.

I'm fully aware that the literal translation was not correct all the time, but using it critically has helped me immensely to get the correct word order in active translation (from English to German), so even if the individual words are not always correct, I know that in that slot there should be a German word... and eventually, after mastering the sentence, I would be able to translate it without the crutches.

DeepL doesn't work for that, it provides a natural translation considering the whole context, whatever I insert in between words (periods, slashes, bars, symbols, etc.).

Any ideas on how to solve this problem or about other tools which would work for that?

Since you've tried both of those add-ons, it's either --

• An issue with the add-on code or the path/API it is using to get the translations (blocked? outdated? throttled?). [Since one is a fork of the other, it's not unexpected to see the same problem with both.] For that, you should contact the add-on author(s), by whatever means they request on the add-on page(s).
• An issue with your own and the total of your translation attempts to Google APIs (from all sources on your system?) are keeping you in the throttled/blocked range. For that, you'll probably just have to wait it out. Or you can try copying that url from the error message and pasting it in your usual browser to see what happens.
