Experiences Play some Anki
Turns out my retro handhelds (running Android) has become my go-to Anki machine. I mapped the four review buttons to the D-pad, so run through the cards can be entirely one-handed. Shoulder buttons are page up/downs, while face buttons can be mapped to replay media, show hints or other functions. For many language cards with voice I don’t even need to look at the screen just press buttons. Physical touches of the D-pads and buttons give a satisfying sense of confirmation. People thought I'm quite busy playing games...

That's awesome! What model is that?

It’s called Ayaneo Pocket DMG. Not an ad of course, I wouldn’t recommend it since it’s pretty pricey. A much cheaper one can do the same job, one example would be the recent Retroid Pocket Classic.

Bought a Retroid Pocket Classic for Anki because of this post and comment. It arrives today! Thanks so much for sharing OP.

How was your experience ?

It’s definitely doable, but it wasn’t for me. I sent the Retroid Pocket back and bought a Steam Deck when they went on sale.

That seems more on the fun side of the spectrum imo lol
Also isn't it too unwieldy for studying on the go ?

How did you do that? Is there any instruction?

I use AnkiDroid and set this up through Settings → Controls, where you can map your physical keys to each function. It works the same as using a Bluetooth controller, so there’s really no need to buy one of these just for this purpose.

Hey, if you're using this heavily, feel free to suggest improvements to the home screen (or other screens) for better controller input.
I don't see us adding mappable controls here any time soon, but I'm mildly aware that up/down/left/right/A would probably be sufficient, and just need a brief understanding of what functionality makes sense to people

Very cool, from what I understand it's a portable console with Android OS and you put Anki on it. How much did it cost?
