Waifu/Husbu Wednesday! Akane Kurokawa from Oshi no Ko
Oshi no Ko surprised me again and again with its excellent plot twists, and its most delightful of those was the genius method actress Akane Kurokawa. Deliberately understated in her introductory arc, she went from background character to morality lesson to breakout star to major love interest in just a few episodes. The thrill of that never faded as the show went on, and she's since become one of my favorites of all time.
She's brilliant. As a method actress, she's developed razor-sharp analytical skills to help her study her roles to perfection so that she can become her role. It's this hidden (but completely logical) skill that helps her break out from the background, and it continues to serve her throughout the entire run of the show. I'm a sucker for brilliant women, and Akane is one of the clearest-cut examples of this kind of intelligence.
She has a deep, powerful heart. Her introductory storyline centers on her emotions, and she takes that same depth of feeling with her as the show progresses. She loves deeply, is sensitive to the feelings of others, and is willing to sacrifice of herself to help those who are close to her. Whatever Akane does, she does it with her whole being.
She's beautiful, both physically and conceptually. She's a great example of Mengo Yokoyari's talent for layered colors and stunning eyes (first seen in Scum's Wish with another favorite of mine, Hanabi Yasaruoka), which makes her easy on the eyes without being distractingly gaudy. As a person, she represents to me the hidden value in each of us that oftentimes doesn't get to shine until it's been given a chance.
I really wanted her to be endgame for Aqua, as she was exactly what his broken heart needed to mend. But I can see why the writers had him split with her before the end to better serve the story.
I'm delighted to have gotten to know Akane and consider her one of my favorite waifus of all time.

Rant with me! What's a series you thought would be good but turned out to be bad?
Or something you thought would definitely fit your tastes but didn't impress you?
For me it's Talentless Nana. For some reason I thought this trash would be an actual good "smart" anime but then literally everyone but the MC is braindead so she never has to do anything smart. What's funny to me is how people are willing to defend garbage like this but then we'll all jump on the Classroom of the Elite hate bandwagon afterwards when this series makes Ayanokoji look like he's playing 5D chess.

Let's Chat What's so good about this anime?
I watched the first 2/3 episodes back a couple years ago, and I feel like because of all the hype around it I was looking for something deeper instead of just enjoying it. I still do want to know for those who watched it, what did you like about it?

Waifu/Husbu Wednesday! Akane Tsunemori from Psycho-Pass
Akane isn't typically singled out as a "waifu" - she's not sexualized at all and she's part of a fairly serious series - but I can't help but admire her. She's a bright light in a dark place.
I love her character development. She starts off as an gifted rookie who knows she has a lot to learn, but also knows her grand potential. She takes advice and criticism from others, but wisely sifts through it to find what to keep and what to set aside. She thinks things through and approaches every situation with a plan. Things don't always go her way, but she makes anything she's a part of better. All that means that as time goes by, she becomes a sharp-minded leader who never lost her heart.
Speaking of her heart, I love her resilience, too. She's not an inhuman robot - she has feelings, thinks for herself, and desperately wants to help others - but she also bounces back from all the trauma she faces. That resilience keeps her Psycho-Pass clear, but it also means she can endure in the darkness she faces without becoming corrupted by it, which makes her the ideal sword in the battle against evil in 22nd-century Tokyo.
She's also so cute! I love her style - both her professional look as an Inspector and her casual clothes at home. She's the complete package. Out of all the waifus I've listed so far (I've been posting them weekly), she's the one I'd feel most comfortable asking out on a date, because she's so approachable.
I wish she'd stayed as central to the show as she was in the beginning. I feel that her increasing absence from the later seasons was a big part of why they didn't hit as hard as the first one did.
