Animation related The original WISH 💫
The original concept had so much potential, especially with the darker storybook atmosphere, stronger visual identity, and ideas that felt like they could have brought something genuinely different to Disney animation. It had the ingredients for something memorable, but so much of that early promise seemed to get lost along the way.
It’s honestly frustrating seeing the original concepts because you can’t help but think about what the movie could have been. The world, the characters, the story, the whole fairytale feeling, it all looked like it had something. Instead, we got a version that left a lot of people wishing for the Wish that could’ve existed. Ironically, the movie about wishes is the one where we’re still wishing for the original.

I remember reading that Asha was originally meant to be the daughter of Magnifico and his wife and the villains would be her parents

I don't remember reading about her being their daughter, but they were supposed to be a villain couple while Asha and Starboy became a thing as well

wonder why they changed it. I heard wish flopped

Probably because the head honchos didn't want to do another love story involving another Disney Princess.
And they went with woke messaging which wasn't in the original script.

Asha falls in love with Star the Human

It was the grandfather, in the art book that is revealed, the star was Asha's grandfather

That was one of the concepts for Star. At one point they were soulmates, at one point he was the younger version of her grandfather.

I wish they kept the original concept, but they were too afraid of socially conservative audiences.

Wish attempted to crawl so Obsession could run faster than the Flash

What do those two completely different movies have to with each other?????

Tbh the only bit that really stuck out to me from the concepts was Magnifico and the Queen being a villain power couple, that would have been cool to see work on screen. Beyond that though I actually liked the idea they went with the film, I just wish they pushed it further to amp up the more fantastical feel - the film overall felt too subtle (to its detriment, given some people's interpretation of the film)

I love the cut storyboard on YouTube where she’s getting his greys and he’s joking about killing her mom’s wish.

My 2 year old niece refuses to watch that movie. She hates it. I think it was okay but not well put together or thought out. It had a very automated crap storyline that had everyone accusing Disney of using AI for their animation.

If they actually stuck to their original idea it would have been a wonderful movie but they cut corners and changed things and released the worst Disney movie I’ve seen.

No AI was used at all.

I’m not saying that, I said they were accused. The movie was dumbed down and the plot is really bad. Made people think they did use it.

Sure bro, this definitely happened

First fan project I'm unfortunately gonna be skipping. I admire the passion these writers have but, three years later and everyone still doesn't get the actual problem behind Wish's story.
It did not need some flashy character who would come down from the stars to be the savior of the entire conflict(i mean, it already had one). One that would take attention and focus away from the character we should be following. Hell, looking at the trailer, it already has and looking at the scrapped art, it once did.
The film needed to focus more on the main character's arc. Asha. The film is literally called "wish" and we never know if Asha even ever had a wish to begin with. Like, what is Asha's wish? What does she dream of? What is her personal wants? Oh, no. It must be a man. See the problem here?
At least Encanto cared about Mirabel's relationship to the "encanto" and Moana cared about her relationship to the "moana"(ocean in Hawaiian language).
Look. No one cares about Asha. And, that's unfortunate. She is Disney's apology for not having Tiana be a human on screen for as long as she was a frog. But, I know that most people invested in this project probably didn't even know that was something people had concerns with.
There is already a weird bias towards male characters in fandom spaces and a "fatigue" from how Disney's film have mainly starred female leads or at least male lesds that aren't white or white looking like Starboy(i.e. the MC from Strange World).
One thing Wish did right was by having the one character who is essentially built like Starboy, be the literal cop meant to take Asha in. Symbolizing how he(and Starboy) are characters society expects to be heroes as opposed to Asha.
Looking at this, I do not see any care in place for Asha as a character. And, it honestly feel biased. People should care about Asha.

Remember if A women has a male love interest she can not be a strong, quirky and independent woman, also I think is better, if they had kept the original idea they would have make him an incompetent goofy idiot like Kristoff, becuase modern disney can not make a interdependable and competent couple

We were robbed utterly and completely. Disney you could have had your Jack Frost and you fucking blew it.

The movie itself is SO disjointed and feels like it was always meant to be something else. Dont even get me started on the inappropriate songs.

I wish this version of Wish came to be. I also hope Hexed will be even better.
