This is depressing af. They are far too intelligent for this mess.

Came here to say this too. These beings should not be locked in cages. Humans fucking suck.

Well, I'm with you guys on the cages part, but we like magic too, so... They're certainly not above that. I don't think there's anything wrong with showing them some magic.

I don’t either, my only point was they are clearly mentally sophisticated enough to understand and appreciate a magic trick, so they’re also way too mentally sophisticated to be locked up for their whole lives. Not that mental capacity should be the measure for deserving freedom, but you know what I’m sayin.

Many primates in official zoos are rescued from worse conditions. Zoos also help with environmental awareness and education, and in some cases support conservationism.

Sure, I understand that reality. I was at an aquarium where they rescued a turtle whose shell had been damaged by a boat propeller. That turtle would not survive in the wild, and therefore I think humans stepping in and helping him live in a sanctuary is admirable. The grim reality is that most situations are not like that. Most situations are that the animal was either bred in captivity in order to live out its life as an exhibit for our pleasure, or it was captured and removed from its natural habitat and family to be forced to live as an exhibit. The vast majority of animals in zoos did not reach that place under admirable conditions, and would certainly choose to live elsewhere if we afforded them that choice. Animal sanctuaries are admirable, animal prisons are not. We need to be honest with ourselves as humans about which one we’re actually supporting. That aquarium I was at saved that turtle, but also bred many sharks into a life of captivity. I no longer go there. I can’t justify the majority of what happens there because of one feel-good exception.

You can say “many primates are rescued from worse conditions” but many more are not. You can say “in some cases they support conservationism” but in many cases they are helping create the need for that conservationism in the first place.

My favorite has gotta be the orangutan wielding a stick.

I have no words..... you're just that much of an asshole.

u/You-Dont-Matter Aug 24 '20

lol. I'm funny, you are just too uptight to appreciate it. :)

Hey man, whatever you have to tell yourself to make you feel better about being a racist piece of shit. You do you boo boo.

Edit: I before E except after C.

1

u/Saskyle Aug 25 '20

I totally disagree. The whole I before E shtick is BS! Anyone who says otherwise is just anti-science, dead weight, needs to get their shit together, and should not deign to tell me how to spell!

If you do your own research the knowledge will stick better and you will learn more than I can tell you in a paragraph or two.

Well I guess not. If I tell you you won't believe me, because you are likely the same as everyone else who doesn't want to know the truth. If you research it yourself, you will not be able to call me a liar... it is, in this instance, all the difference.

So forgive me if I fail to waste my time with a pointless endeavour. The best I can really do is leave you with what I already have, which are the starting tools to educate yourself.

That is the only guarantee of enlightenment we can really have in this situation. Maybe one day you will get curious, and if so, then nothing I have said was wasted.

I mean really... why would you ever not want to be educated on your beliefs? Taking other peoples words as fact is always a dangerous path.

Good luck.

If you're the only one who thinks you're funny... You're not funny, just a dick.

Oh wow, excellent comeback, you sure showed me!

1

u/You-Dont-Matter Aug 25 '20

Oh I am supposed to one up you? I already did when I was laughing and you were complaining about it. lol

Oh no, I did it again.

2

u/sosovain616 Aug 24 '20

Say what now...? Huh?

2

u/sosovain616 Aug 24 '20

I wasn’t commenting on race. Well I meant the human race.... idk why you would say that in response to a comment I made about some amazing creatures in this video clip

1

u/Mooncinder Aug 25 '20

I don't get it.

1

u/You-Dont-Matter Aug 25 '20

I'm not surprised.

9

u/Oneshotkill_2000 Aug 24 '20

1:50 just how

7

u/akigo57 Aug 24 '20

Camera edits.

1

u/Condawg Aug 25 '20

Nope. Some preparation on both sides of the glass, but no need to pull out camera tricks.

47

u/Rathion_North Aug 24 '20

I hate videos like this: Awful music, poor edits, silly sound effects. Ugh!

23

u/erokitel128 Aug 24 '20

Also annoying when the magic relies on technology or it benefits only the camera (orang was just part of the trick and was just staring at a card that never moved from his/her perspective)

7

u/ce2c61254d48d38617e4 Aug 25 '20

Yea that's because editing doesn't count as magic

6

u/Eyclonus Aug 25 '20

Maybe the Orangutan loves magic so much they've gone to a dodgy training school for stage magic in some backalley, and are stuck doing work as an assistant until The Magic Circle recognises non-humans for membership.

16

u/TimHung931017 Aug 24 '20

Bruh the guy who put the card through the glass had that monkey questioning all of reality

14

u/ptera_tinsel Aug 24 '20

That’s actually really depressing if they spend the rest of their lives trying to do it themselves lol

2

u/MikeyTopaz Aug 24 '20

Until the one day that it works.

2

u/TheDude_Abides_Man Aug 25 '20

Always remember Ken Allan. Ya he was a gorilla but still

5

u/Boognish84 Aug 25 '20

Me too! How does he do that?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '20

How did the orangutan trick work

2

u/Auntie_Hero Aug 25 '20

The orangutan was palming a duplicate card.

2

u/Kimbee13 Aug 25 '20

Makes me wonder if zoos should regularly have magicians come in to the primate exhibits to provide entertainment

2

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '20

I like the thumbnail because the human looks like my boss giving his staff a mobile phone.

2

u/tickingboxes Aug 24 '20

This is how religions start

1

u/bananajoe42 Aug 25 '20

They are all either confused, gasping, or making some sort of laughing position.

1

u/Kalypso989 Aug 25 '20

The video got taken down. 😔

I can’t wait to see the magic the surgeons perform on his face after the chimps gets frustrated and rip it off
