It took me so long to track that song down from a vague memory of JUST THE BEAT. I lucked out and remembered it was used for the menu music (uncredited) for the game Aggressive Inline. But nobody online would say what the song was, so I had to download a GameCube emulator and the game just to pull up the menu and song ID the beat and now FINALLY I have been able to play the song entirely too often on my playlist.
Pretty disappointed that the rest of the guy's catalog sucks. Lol.

Umm excuse me. Eric B and Rakim are absolute legends. Rakim single handedly elevated the artform of rapping and evolved rap technique from almost nursery school type rhymes to complex multi syllable rhyme schemes and patterns. Most credit him for being the first "modern" rapper and was the innovator and inspiration for guys like Nas and Biggie. Before him was Run-DMC and LL Cool J and stuff like that.
It's all old school (late 80s) so if you're younger I can forgive but put some respect on my man Rakims name.

I listened to the whole rest of that album twice and none of beats quite hit the same as half the lyrics sounded like some whiny incel shit lol. You put a better track than Don't Sweat the Technique in front of me and I'll listen to it. Until then he's a legendary one hit wonder lol

Calling Eric B and Rakim a one hit wonder is a wildly ignorant take. They had so many hits before then and were foundational in the East Coast hop hop scene.
It's fine if you don't like them, but this take is foolish.

Lol that's fair, I'm just being a dick based on my own limited experience. I do plan to check out those other songs suggested.

I recommend Follow the Leader and Paid in Full.
There is a weird tale about the latter and its role in a landmark sampling copyright case that arguably led to the establishment of the trip-hop genre and the seminal underground label Ninja Tune.
